Chapter 7 - Art and love
---Will's POV---
"Okay." Kim said doubtingly before she walked towards me, slightly tilting her head to the side. "Don't you want to sit down or something?" When I looked around, my eyes immediately puling towards my bed, she quickly added "Preferably not on a bed?" A smirk appeared on my face when I noticed that Kim's cheeks were slightly flushed, an adorable feint pink.
"Uhm..." I cleared my throat, looking around before I spotted the leather couch in the corner of my room, right across my flat screen. "Yeah, sure...right this way." My wolf found this situation very amusing; his chuckles were slowly turning into full-blown laughter and I could hear the occasional snicker from across the hall.
"I can't see what's so funny." I teasingly snapped at David, who calmed down slowly while I received an mental image of Kath wiggling with her legs, desperately trying to contain her laughter with her hands clapped over her mouth. "Just my mate's antics, Will. She knew that Kim needed to touch your face in order to make the artwork and she was aware that you were completely oblivious to that fact."
"Explains the 'Don't get too touchy' comment earlier on." I murmured to myself, earning a quick laugh before Kim slapped her hand over her mouth to smother the laughter. I cringed slightly in embarrassment; did I say that out loud?
"Don't tell me you didn't... Oh, you didn't realize it? That I had to touch your face, I mean?" Kim suddenly seemed flustered, irritated with herself. "It's okay if you don't want to, I'll just call my sister... maybe she'll-" I shook my head, interrupting her apology by grabbing her waist to lead her towards the couch.
"It's nothing. Truth be told, I should apologize for not realizing this sooner. It's so easy to forget about your blindness..." I mused in the end, gaining a soft smile from Kim while she shook her head slightly. "Watch for the step." I added when we reached the slightly elevated floor of my lounge/ relaxing room.
I waited until she sat down comfortably, a curious look stretching over her face while she brushed her hands on the seat. My wolf purred in excitement when I realized that, unknowing to her, her scent was rubbing off on the chair, mixing with my own scent.
"Mmm..." he purred again when the scent swirled around me as I passed Kim. "This would be her scent if we marked her Will. We wouldn't have to worry anymore about males interested in what's ours..." I shook my head to lose that tempting thought, firmly stating to myself and my wolf that I wanted to explain everything to Kim before I gave her the choice to be bounded to me.
"But why? Why wait?" My wolf whined again. "She's perfect for us, as we are perfect for her." I groaned slightly before I quickly mumbled "Shut up!" hoping he would relent and leave me alone for a moment. He did, surprisingly, and I was left alone with my thoughts.
"So," Kim said, stretching the word slightly while she brushed her curls out of her face, giving me a perfect view of her eyes. Every time I saw them, I felt a small tug on my heartstrings... They were just so beautiful, although they couldn't see anything...Oh, wait; Kim's talking... isn't she?
"-So I hope you're okay with that." Kim finished, making me scowl at myself before I quickly asked, "Can you...repeat that please? I was a little distracted." Kim bit her lip while smiling, distracting me again but I forced myself to focus on her explanation.
"I have to touch your face in order to remember it. I don't know how you want me to paint you, so as soon as I'm familiar with your face, you can choose what expression, whatever you choose for me to paint. Is that alright?" I nodded my approval, saying, "Sure, go ahead."
Kim took a deep breath before she scooted closer and hesitantly stretched her arms up. I smiled slightly at her, amused with her hesitation, "I don't bite...much." I teased, grinning when she blushed again, this time with a smile on her face. "Well, if I had to judge by your sister barking at me, I really don't want to know what the bite will be like."
I scowled at the memory before I had to chuckle with Kim's choice of words; if I didn't knew better, I'd say that she knew about us. My mind stilled when Kim's fingers gently brushed over my cheek before they ran down towards my throat. My wolf was purring like crazy, sounding more like an oversized cat then a wild animal.
My breathing hitched slightly when Kim's fingers stopped on my Adam's apple, which bobbed up and down when I swallowed. Kim smiled slightly at the feeling before her fingers went over my jaw, my cheekbones and stopped under my eyes. "Close your eyes please." She murmured, a cute little frown between her brows.
"God." I internally groaned when she touched my eyelids, gingerly brushing over them. "This girl is killing me." My skin was slowly heating up while my wolf was begging me to mark her. "I can't. I can't, I can't!" I chanted in my head, hoping that I could contain myself.
"Sure you can." My wolf purred when Kim's hands moved over my brows and brushed in my hair. My wolf leaned into the touch and I nearly lost it when her fingers brushed over my lips. I jolted up while my eyes snapped open, revealing a slightly shocked Kim, who had her mouth slightly open, as if to ask a question.
"Sorry...I-uh, really need to use the bathroom." I said and darted away when she murmured a soft "Oh, okay." I closed the door behind me and took deep breaths, hoping to calm down enough so I could get back in there without jumping her. I heard the door of my bedroom open and Kath's voice chirped away, followed by Kim's soothing voice.
After another deep breath, I came back out and walked towards them. Kath's eyes where bright and filled with amusement while she looked from Kim to me and back again. Kim had a scowl on her face, her arms crossed in front of her chest while she glared at Kath's direction. I raised my eyebrow slightly, waiting for an explanation.
"It's getting late and we need to go back home. Well, Kim does because she hasn't eaten yet." Right at that moment, Kim's stomach grumbled as if it heard its cue. Chuckles filled the room while Kim flushed slightly, sticking her tongue out at Kath when she poked her.
"Oh, well I'll take her home then so you can spend some time on your 'math's' assignment?" I said, making air quotes while looking at Kath. David walked up from behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist before he leaned his head on her shoulder. I felt a small pang of jealousy and longing while I looked at Kim; It would be a while before I could do that.
Kim was busy getting her art stuff together and both Kath and David helped her while I excused myself to warn mom and dad. I closed the bedroom door and walked through the house, towards the living room where the rest of the pack was. On the way there, I heard sniffling noises of someone crying. They seemed to come from the study.
I peeked through the crack of the slightly ajar door, revealing my sister, who was patting her eyes with a handkerchief while several pictures and papers were scattered on the table in front of her. A grim smile slid over my face before I walked away. Maybe now she would learn to stop judging people from the cover.
"Hey Will, what are you doing down here? Aren't you supposed to help your mate with that art assignment of hers?" Dad asked curiously when I walked in the living room. I looked around at the people who were looking at the flat screen, rummaging through the kitchen or were heading outside, probably to shift.
I nodded towards the sky that was visible through the glass sliding doors that gave access to the yard. "It's getting late, so I'm dropping her of in a few. She hasn't eaten yet." Several pack members looked up with slight concern in their eyes, which made my wolf bask in pride; his pack had accepted his mate as their alpha-female.
"Well then, invite her to dinner. Call her parents and ask them if it's all right with them." Mom replied from the kitchen, cutting some vegetables before she wiped her hands on her apron to check one of the pots, bubbling on the stove.
I opened my mouth to reply but someone else beat me to it. "Thanks for the offer Miss, but my parents aren't home. They haven't been home in a few weeks for that matter. I don't want to burden you and besides, I need to get started on this project. It would be easier if I could do this back home." Kim answered politely while she shifted the box of paints in her arms.
Mom's eyes slightly bulged out of her head while she mouthed 'a few weeks', shock evidently present in her expression. I warned the rest of the pack through the link to contain their growls, informing them that Kim would most likely hear it.
Dad cleared his throat while he pushed mom's mouth shut with his hand, smirking slightly at her blush before he replied to Kim "Of course, there's no need to feel pressured. I'm sure that we'll be seeing you around often." I playfully glared at him while I walked towards Kim and pulled the box from her arms before I lead her towards my car.
---Kim's POV---
I shivered slightly at the cold evening air before I quickly followed Will. We had talked a bit during the drive towards my house and I was surprised how quickly time went by while talking to him. Before I knew it, he pulled up at my house, stating that we were there.
Unlocking the door, I quickly opened it and let him in first; Will was adamant that he would bring all of my stuff back to their original places and after a small argument, I had to oblige.
I heard Will's footsteps on the staircase and decided against following him upstairs. Instead, I walked to the kitchen to start cooking while I took the time to gather my thoughts for a moment. My fingertips were still extremely sensitive after touching Will's face and I flushed slightly when I remembered him jolting out of my reach, followed by a quick lie to get to the bathroom.
All right, I knew something was up with Will and his family. First of all, he had only introduced me to his parents and sis but failed to mention the several dozens of other people until Kath played tag and they joined us.
Second, I had heard soft growls coming from them and all of the people in that house had the amazing ability to move without making a sound. That just wasn't normal; normal people made sound when they moved, small twitches from the foot that made it brush against the surface they walked on. With Will's family: just the whisper of wind that was moved due to their movement.
And third, when David spoke at the lunch table; he really sounded like he believed that they were wolves. I shook my head in confusion while a headache started to develop. It was all too much to take in on one night. It was part of the reason that I declined the offer to join Will and his family for dinner.
"Smells good." Will murmured when he came down from the stairs and sniffed the air. A shiver ran through me when he leaned over my shoulder to look in the pot on the stove. I froze when his jaw rested on my shoulder for a moment, my hands stopping the motion of stirring in the boiling soup. Will seemed to notice because he quickly pulled back with a mumbled "Sorry."
I shook my head slightly, trying to get the images out of it. "It's fine." I stated with a shaky voice, "Just some bad memories." I heard Will's sharp intake of breath, followed by a low growl. What was it with this guy and growling like a dog? Or wolf, if David was correct.
"I'm sorry. I should have remembered that." Will apologized again and I nodded, accepting his apology before I frowned slightly. "Do you know?" I asked while waving a hand towards my eyes.
"Yes." Will sighed in a tone that made me wish I could see his expression. I nodded again while I pushed the soup of the hot stove and clicked the fire of. "How?" Will shuffled on the spot at that question before he sighed again.
"I asked Kath how you became blind; she told me to look the Hale-case up, so I did." I nodded again, feeling relieved that he only knew what the papers had published. I didn't want him to know everything in detail; a part of me wanted him close and I feared that he would leave when he knew everything.
A silence filled the room while I moved my hand over the counter while I walked around it towards the cabinet with bowls. I felt Will's eyes on me but decided to ignore it and retrieved a bowl, waiting with a second one in my hands. "You too?" I asked, hesitantly raising the bowl in front of me.
After a few seconds, Will stepped towards the door while saying, "I'd love too but mom prepared dinner... I'd feel rather guilty to leave her with that." I nodded in understanding, slightly relieved that he didn't accept; Part of me wanted some time on my own."
"Okay, I'll see you out then." I replied, walking him towards the front door after I placed the bowl away. Opening the door, I found Will hesitating behind me, nervously shuffling his feet from side to side. I smiled slightly and said, "Good night Will." He sighed and stepped forwards, brushing past me.
Shock coursed through my body when I felt his lips on my cheek and I couldn't move when Will whispered "Good night." before he walked through the open door and stepped in his car.
Almost like in the movies, I closed the door while my fingers found the spot where Will's lips made contact. I smiled deeper before I walked towards my dinner, remembering my plans I made earlier on. First, I would eat while I thought about all the strange things that occurred around Will and his friends.
And then, I would start with putting the outlines of Will's face on the canvas so I could work on it tomorrow during art-class, after I finished last lesson's assignment. The perk of being blind was that I had a longer deadline but then again, I didn't want any special treatment for my disability.
I sighed while I started eating my soup after putting on some music. I just knew I would be dreaming of Will this night.
