Chapter 19: Unwanted Attention
Marinette watched as the people walked in small to big strides on the sidewalk outside the Bakery through the window. She was bored. They were closed for today and she was monitoring the produce just in case an order came in and she had to step away from the counter.
In the Kitchen, (M/n) worked diligently, doing...nothing.
The two teenagers were bored out of their minds and the close calls of them almost binging on the left over food from yesterday's messed up batch of macaroons were 2:5. 2 being the times that they actually got a hold of the batch and 5 being the times Marinette's mom or dad caught them trying to smuggle them into Marinette's room.
Marinette groaned loudly, sighing out afterwards a couple of times before (M/n) came in to the front of the Bakery with an annoyed look on his face. "What.." the taller teen adjusted his glasses, leaning against the Kitchen door.
"I'm bored...and hungry.." Marinette whined, pursing her lips with a frown. (M/n) sighed after a few minutes of silence as he pushed off of the door and right as he made his way over to her, a knock echoed from the entrance.
(M/n) glanced over, catching sight of the Cat-themed hero.
He gasped and ducked under the counter and crawled over to the corner, tucking his knees close to his chest, his neck being tilted at an awkward angle with his height and small space underneath the counter.
It had been a couple of days since the 'Bet' the winner was easily decided after (M/n) confessed who Tyler was. Although he left out most of the detail about the entirety of his feelings of the American Blond. Marinette watched him with a confused glare before making her way over to the door.
"Wait--No, Don't let him in---" (M/n) hissed in a low whisper, but it was proven to be useless as the black-haired girl unlocked and opened the door for the hero.
"Chat Noir, what are you doing here today?" the girl asks, a shit-eating grin plastering its way onto her face.
(M/n) covered his head with his hands and waited for the hero to bounce over to where he was.
"I actually wanted to ask for some advice about keeping my friendship with (M/n). You seem like the closest person to him these days...other than his other school friends." Chat Noir's timid voice made (M/n) perk up, he listened for a couple more minutes for any signs of movement before Chat Noir's face popped into his view making scream out of surprise and hit his head on the counter.
"Oww.." (M/n) groaned out, scooting out from underneath the table top, clutching the top of his head with his right hand. Chat and Marinette watched nervously as the taller teen stood shakily to his feet, still holding his head as he slowly turned towards the two teens.
"That's it..." he muttered darkly, glaring at the golden-blond his his bangs moved out of the way of his eyes.
"Oh," Chat yelped, he quickly hopped the counter and stuck his tongue out at the (H/c)-haired speckled teen, barking out a laugh when the taller did it back.
Marinette smiled two boys who continued to stall and throw stupid faces at each other, both too nervous to even start fighting. Not only that, but (M/n) was at a disadvantage, naturally slower than the others in his glass despite his height and more timid when it came down to talking to others.
A soft buzzing alerted her and she turned to her attention to the counter after (M/n) had ducked down to avoid the hand towel being thrown at him by the cat-themed hero.
Marinette rolled her eyes, grabbing ahold of the vibrating device as she made her way into the kitchen for more privacy. Lifting the phone to her ear, she answered with a practiced smile.
"Hello, and thank you for calling, this is The Tom & Sabine Boulangerie Patisserie. Marinette speaking, how may I help you---"
"Is there a (M/n) (L/n) working there by chance? I've been checking every bakery in Paris so far and none of them have my son listed as a employee," the sweet and smooth voice of an older woman echoed in Marinette's ear. The black-haired girl shifted her weight onto her right foot as she glanced over her shoulder through the small round window of the kitchen door. She quickly caught sight of Chat and (M/n) still rough housing a little.
Smiling a little wider she hummed, "yes, there is, might I ask who is calling?" she questioned again. There was a little pause and silence, frowning at the sudden lack of an answer she pulled the phone away to check if the woman had ended the call.
"Hello?---"
Marinette was interrupted by the woman's voice.
"Sorry, I was writing down the name of your Bakery, thank you for you time, Miss Marinette." The woman praised, "My name is Elizabeth (L/n), I'm (M/n)'s mother."
===================
Chat Noir sat on one of the chairs inside by the tables near the front counter, sulking and rubbing the red mark on his face. (M/n) was proudly standing behind the counter his expression snarky and his eyes narrowed on the masked model.
"Don't start fights you can't finish, Cat boy," (M/n) hissed. Chat pursed his lips into a deeper pout as he sighed deeply, "I got that already, you didn't have to hit me with the hand towel..." Chat whined. (M/n) smirked a little wider before he heard his phone go off on the counter.
Glancing down at the phone his entire body froze, not even hearing what Chat said as his hands began to tremble. Chat noticed the change in his body and stood up and quickly made his way over to him with concern evident in his expression. "(M/n)..? Are you okay?" The golden-blond restricted his touch on the taller teen just in case it caused a Panic attack.
"M..Mhm...I'm..I need--" (M/n) covered his mouth as he choked back a cry in pain as his left arm began to burn out of the tension of his body.
"(M/n)!" Marinette' voice made the (H/c)-haired teen whip his head towards the girl as he began to curl up in a ball.
"Chat! I need you to get some ice from the freezer in the kitchen, and the safety blanket next to it." Marinette's commanding voice reminded Chat of ladybug but he quickly shook the thought away as rushed to grab the said items.
Only to have a loud scream shock all of the teens back into their senses as they turned towards the bakery window. It was as if they were in a movie, watching as people ran into each other and rushed to get away from the large beams of ice icicles that crashed into the pavement and near by stores. Just missing the bakery by a hair.
Chat growled out a incoherent profanity(guessing that it was a curse word) and turned to the two with a serious glare, he was completely different from his usually flirtatious demeanor and smirking mask, this was a Chat Noir that was completely foreign to (M/n).
"Get (M/n) and yourself out of here before that ice encases this place and get to somewhere warm enough. The ice must've spread over the other stores and crosswalks already, so take the back exit and get the hell out of here!" The blond's words struck a chord in Marinette as she nodded and quickly grabbed ahold of (M/n)'s right hand and dragged him out of the front check-out of the Bakery and rushed through the Kitchen to the stars that led up to the actual house where Tom and Sabine were waiting for them anxiously.
"Marinette! (M/n)! Are you two alright?!" Sabine checked the two over frantically trying to stay calm.
Marinette nodded curtly and handed (M/n) over to her father and went to run up the stars to their beloved home but (M/n) grabbed ahold of her wrist and stopped her mid fourth-step. Tom and Sabine already made their way out of the Bakery and were grouping with the other citizens to the safety shelter of the Akuma Attack.
"We have to go Mari--" (M/n) tried to pull her back but was stopped by Marinette resisting.
"There is something I need to grab!--" Her thoughts drifted to Tikki, the magical Kwami was still in the attic in her room with her phone and bag, if Tikki was injured, she wouldn't be able to stop the Akuma.
"No! There is no time! We have to go!!" (M/n) still persisted, biting his bottom lip in worry as he tried to tug her back.
"(M/n), You don't understand, I have to go get it!"
"What's so important that you have to risk your life over it?!" (M/n) snapped. It was quiet between them, other than the faint explosions and yells of people outside.
Marinette gaped at the taller teenager, his glasses slid down the bridge of his nose and exposed his watering eyes. Marinette finally took in (M/n)'s appearance. His left hand was shaking and his shoulders were trembling as he tried to hold in his tears. The panic was still present in his eyes from his sudden jolt right before the attack started.
(M/n)'s phone was lit up enough in his left hand that Marinette caught sight of what the message read.
1 New Message
From Elizabeth (L/n) {Mother}
===========
Subject--Surgery
===========
(M/n), I got this number from your old private tutor, but I'll be coming to Paris in a few days and I need you to be packed up and ready to leave by the time I get there. There's a surgeon willing to amputate your Left Arm that way you won't feel the pain you feel currently.
One Month is enough time to be Mentally ready. Stop Overreacting. I know that the accident was tough on you, but to refuse to play again and to refuse getting your arm fixed will not cut it.
After the Surgery, you'll be under doing Therapy for the trauma of the Accident. After you complete your Therapy here, I'll be moving you to America to train under one of my friends to play the Piano again.
Marinette felt rage boil in her blood.
"I...I, I don't want to lose someone so important to me again..." (M/n) muttered sadly, a few stray tears trailing down his red cheeks. Everyone he let get close to him, eventually stabbed him in the back, died, or just avoided him like he was affected with the plague.
He was tired of it.
And Marinette could feel that, slowly, she stepped down enough to be at (M/n)'s height, a weak smile stretching onto her face as she wrapped her arms around his neck and shoulders, hugging his body tightly against her own.
(M/n)'s arms hesitated to wrap around her slim body. Her body's warmth was overwhelming to him. The sudden invasion of his trust and he couldn't help but feel fear. The fear of loosing this warmth despite being afraid of it.
"(M/n), what I'm about to tell you, do not repeat a word I say to anyone other than me." Marinette's soft whisper sent shivers down (M/n)'s spine as he nodded meekly. His still raised up awkwardly, not hugging the girl back.
"I'm..Ladybug."
{WOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHH!! Does anybody else hate (M/n)'s mom?! Cus I do and I was the one that made her! god, I was so mad, I'm still mad about what she said. It hits close to home in some places of the text but geeeezzz.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the happy bits of this chapter and let me know what you thought about Marinette telling (M/n) her secret. I love everyone's comments despite it only being at least three or two people. But I want to hear what you guys have to say. Don't forget to Comment, Vote and maybe share it to your friends who also read Male reader fanfics and like Miraculous Ladybug!}
