Chapter Eleven

we dont want to die

3rd person pov

that was christmas day when they found out what had happened to chip and the sheriff and they were all shellshocked. The next thing they knew they were all sitting in the living room of rocky and tabbys house with the new sheriff in front of them 

"How could you let this happen?" Tabby and rockys mom asked as rocky held her hand out for tabby 

"Isn't it your single most important job to keep serial killers from escaping and murdering even more people?" Faran asked and rocky nodded 

"yeah i mean come on, how do you manage to fuck this one up?" she asked 

"Should we be in a safe house or assume new identities?" Mouse questioned and rocky thought for a second 

"might be a safe idea, we dont want to die" she told the girl and they all nodded in agreement with rocky 

"I assure you,the Millwood Sheriff's Department has everything under control" the officer told them and rocky scoffed 

"under control? more people are dead, this doesn't exactly feel like its under control" she stated to the women

"We're confident we'll have Archie Waters back in custody very soon. A couple of hours, hopefully" She spoke and rocky scoffed as she laid her head on noas shoulder and held the girls hand. 

"do you know how much damage he could do in a couple of hours?" Tabby asked 

"a tried to kill me. hes gonna come after me again and my baby" Imogen spoke and rocky sighed 

"We'll have officers posted outside of your homes and you should all remain in lockdown, at least until he's caught. Now, please, try your best to keep calm" She told them and then she left the house. The girls went up to tabbys room and they all sat in the room together with the door open. Rocky sat on the floor next to noa as she caressed the girls ankle and listened to imogen 

"No offense to Deputy Maroon,she seems like a nice person,but there's no way that she or her department are catching A" Imogen spoke and rocky nodded 

"our police department is a joke they dont care about anything until someone is dead" Rocky spoke and noa nudged her 

"I can't believe we're just supposed to wait around until A kills us" Mouse said 

"we dont have to, as much as they want us to, we don't have to wait around. hes probably tied off his loose ends" Rocky said and then they all thought about their loose ends, mouse soon heard A murder steve over the phone and noa held the girls hand. Then rocky thought about her loose end and she knew that he was already dead and she didn't care to save him. 

The girls soon all went to different rooms so that they could sleep only to be brought downstairs and told that A had been caught and that archie was in custody and that it was finally over. They could all finally live

-6 MONTHS LATER-

the girls were now all in self defense classes together as they were being taught how to punch and fight and they were going to therapy too. Rocky had missed a few sessions due to going to her own therapist and not the group one. This is one of those times, she sat in her own therapist room as they talked to each other about the past six months. Rocky couldn't admit the things she told her therapist in front of the girls. 

"so you think that you're gonna die no matter what?" she asked and rocky nodded. 

"i do, i don't know, i just get scared that he'll come back or ill fuck up or ill die. Either way im terrified, utterly terrified" she told the women and she nodded 

"rocky i get it, but have you told the girls this?" she asked and rocky scoffed 

"of course not, they'll think im insane and i don't want to be labeled as the insane girl. I went to jail, I lit a guys house on fire, I almost died and i can't tell them about this. This is too personal" Rocky exclaimed and her therapist nodded. They spent the rest of their time together talking and at the end of their session, rocky went straight home. 

The next day they would be going to school and she would finally be able to live a normal life again. They had a few more days until school was out but she still had to go through those days. However, when she was in one of her classes she got a text from the group chat and they all met up in the computer room 

"Okay. You know how people have been steadily posting about A on SpookySpaghetti for the last six months?" mouse asked 

"yeah his fucking fan club, they love him, its disgusting" rocky stated 

Most of it is fictionalized and random, almost stream of consciousness. But someone just posted this. Pictures of us, our names, our identities,which have never been released, officially, because we're underage. Now it's like we've got targets on our backs" mouse stated and rocky scoffed 

"oh fuck this" rocky said 

"Who posted this? Can't we get it taken down? Like, right the fuck now?" Noa asked 

"all postings are anonymous but i already emailed spookyspaghetti. no response from the websites admin yet. And theres more. That's as and angelas bad to the bone mother. Bloody rose waters. Lurking in places we each have a connection to" Mouse said 

"those have to be photoshopped or fake, i mean come on" Rocky tried to reason with them. Rocky ended up blocking out anything else that was said because it made her uncomfortable and grossed her out. She rested her head on noas shoulder as the girl held her hand and ran her thumb over her knuckles. She decided to not do the plan with them because she hated it and she didn't want to. 

She knew that the girls were doing it and she didn't want to do it, so she stayed home and she did nothing. She did her homework and she stayed home, she knew that tabby had put her movie online and she knew that imogen was going to see their therapist and she knew tabby was too. 

The next few days, she went to school and she went to work and she didn't interact with noa at all because noa was still staying with shawn and the others still didn't know about them. She didn't know when to tell them and there was never a time that felt right. 

She soon sat in the room with the girls as they heard the news that archie was on death row and that they were finally going to be okay without him. She held her sisters hand and she held noas hand as they all agreed to continue going to therapy together. 

"Well, I'm here for all of you and happy to continue the work. In my experience, trauma doesn't just evaporate. I'm here to help in any way I can" she told them and they all smiled before they left the room and went home. 

The next day, they sat on the rooftop of the apartment in their bikinis as they sunbathed and talked 

"Okay. Favorite summer movies, go. Mine's Independence Day, even though it's slightly problematic these days, followed by Midsommar, the director's cut" tabby said 

"Call Me by Your Name.Also deeply problematic, but doesn't Ash kind of remind you of Timothee Chalamet?" mouse asked 

"a little bit yeah" rocky laughed 

"My mom and I used to watch Dirty Dancing all the time. Kellerman's forever!" Imogen spoke 

"500 Days of Summer for me, and does Mamma Mia count?" Faran asked and rocky nodded with tabby 

"one hundred percent" she told the girl 

"wet hot american summer, obviously. what do you got rox?" she asked the girl and rocky thought for a second before she came up with her answer 

"the sandlot, easily" she told them and they all agreed with her 

"guys, i can feel it. best summer ever! we are gonna have a blast" imogen said and they all nodded in agreement. That was until the next day where they all sat in the library together talking about the summer only to be called to the principals office and to be told that since their grades had dropped and they failed their keystones exams. The other girls did but rocky did and she held her breath as she looked at them 

"so im the only one moving forward?" she asked and they all turned to her, she ran a hand through her hair and she sighed. she hated leaving them behind and she hated that the girls were going to have to go to summer school during the summer. 

That meant she was separating from them and she hated it but she wouldn't be leaving them. She couldn't leave them, especially not noa. 

she couldn't leave noa.
