Chapter 4 - Does an Ogre like cheese puffs?
Evie's POV – Evie's Dorm, Auradon
I was outlining the hem of Chad's cape with fake fur. He was complaining about his cape not being fancy enough for a 'King'. "What about peacock feathers? Yeah, I bet you nobody's gonna have those at Cotillion." He blurted out. I groaned. No matter how many times I had told him to keep quiet he insisted on blurting out his 'ideas' to me. I put on a fake smile and said, "Chad, when I look at you, all I can think of is... 'king'." He gasped. "And fake fur... Uh-huh. ...fake fur says it all."
"Loud and clear." Said Doug, who was working on his computer. Jade looked in, allowing me to let the smile fall from my lips for a second. "Amphitheatre in five!" she said and waited outside the door. I put my smile back on as Chad turned back to me with a haughty pout on his lips. "Why did the coach make her captain instead of me? I'm obviously better. "King Chad," though. I do rather like that. You know who else would like that?"
"Who?" I questioned, even though I already knew the answer.
"Audrey."
"She would."
"Chad, let's go," said Jade getting impatient
"I'm coming," he said as he jumped off the pedestal. Luckily, I grabbed the cape off of him before he could ruin it. I dropped it on the bed as I walked over to Doug, giggling to myself. "Not a lot of there-there." We said in unison and then burst out laughing.
"Someone's obviously having some trouble dealing with his break-up with Audrey," I said.
"Yes. I've been doing the numbers and after we collect from all the girls for their gowns, the boys for their suits and Chad's cape..." he said and showed me his computer, on which was written an outrageous sum of money. "Wow! No wonder people work. What am I gonna do with all this money?" I asked with a surprised smile on my face that I couldn't wipe off.
"I think in the next few years, you could buy that castle you always wanted. That way, you wouldn't need a prince." Said Doug, looking up at me.
"You're right, I don't." I said, giving him a hug "Because I have you."
Kino's POV – Lockers, Auradon Prep
Mal and I were at our adjoining lockers when suddenly a pair of hands was put over my eyes. I knew who it was immediately. By the giggle that came from Mal, I was assuming the same had happened to her. I pulled the hands off my eyes and turned around. "Hey, Oscar." I said.
"Hey, Kino." He replied
"We have a surprise for you two," said Ben
"Again? Wow. That's like every day now." Mal said, with a look of surprise on her face. I rolled my eyes. No one would recognise Mal as the girl who used to steal candy from babies for fun. "Or every other day." Said Ben
"The even days. Because you're... even more perfect than we thought." Trust Oscar to make a cheesy joke. "That is me. I am perfect." I mumbled. Gods, what would they do if they knew my secret.
"Come on, let me spoil you. You didn't have a lot growing up." Said Ben, taking Mal's hands
"We managed," she said. She pulled away from Ben and looked in my locker that was graffitied on the inside with my logo. But I had forgotten to take my spellbook out and that was what Mal was staring at. "Hey, didn't you donate that to the museum?" She gave me the same look that Evie had earlier. "Is that still in there? Um, I got to get to class. I really don't want to be late." I said trying to back out, but Oscar grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the end of the row of lockers. "No. You come this way. First off... Ta-da!" he finished as he stepped aside to reveal two motorbikes, one purple with green highlights and the other Black with green and purple.
"Do you like them?" said Ben
"Ben... does an ogre like cheese puffs? These are amazing! It's purple. We didn't get you anything." Said Mal, with a look of genuine sadness as she looked towards her boyfriend.
"Kino's taking all of us on a picnic with all our favourite foods, remember?" said Ben.
"No that's Thursday," I said
"It is Thursday." Said, Oscar
"No, it's not."
"Yes, it is."
"It is." He said showing me his phone where the date said Thursday 22 November.
"I knew that."
"I mean, if you don't have it, that's fine." Said Oscar
"No, no, no. I was fully messing with you. I knew it was Thursday. I just have one more thing to go bake, and then I am all yours." I said tapping each of their noses in turn.
"Well, what about class?" said Mal
"She multi tasks."
"She dabbles."
"She dabbles."
"You're the best!"
"That's me!" I shouted after her as she pulled away. I turned back to my locker and let out a deep sigh. How in the gods' names was I supposed to get all their favourite foods ready with class? I had an idea and grabbed my spellbook, flicking through to the correct page. Cooking spell, there it was. I knew what I had to do and raced to class with a new purpose.
( Hello guys
sorry, I haven't posted in a while school has been hectic. Here is Kino's Logo
Despite what my friends say, Yes I did draw this. I got the idea from the cover of Eliza Wass's Book - The Life and Death Parade. Please read it it is really good. My friend, I will call her Dora so her secret identity remains undiscovered, is hopefully drawing some amazing characters for me.
This is another one of her drawings, not the actual character. I will post soon. Please comment and Vote. Every read matters to me, thank you so much. I honestly did not think anyone would read my crap but yeah. I changed chapter 3 so that Jade is Bi and Carla is Gay.
FryingPan Out xoxo
