Long Live Alliquipa

My name is Aliquippa. I was once a queen for the Seneca nation. I lived during the French war. We fought with the British and with George Washington on the Fort Necessity. We won the battle and George wanted to do a ceremony, in my honor, but I sent my son Kanuksusy instead because I was sick. I was 80 years old when I was turned. One night, as my friend Moakawah sang me the song of farewell a stranger came into my teepee claiming to be a British soldier.

" I am grateful for your service and because of this I come with a gift for you."

"A gift you say?" I asked. I coughed out loud.

"What is this gift? You must hurry, for my ancestors await me in the other world. They call my name and I must join them in the circle of all things," I replied.

"You will no longer need of them. The gift I give to you is immortality," he said.

" I cannot accept your gift, for it alters the order of life," I replied. The being moved fast. He knocked Moakawah out and then came to my deathbed. He was white, whiter than the whites. I had never seen a creature as he and I feared him. He was not of this world. He sunk his teeth on my neck and I felt the blood of my life drift away in his mouth. He took my blood, leaving me empty, empty until the last drop.

I lay dead, but then my eyes opened, but I was not alive. I was an empty vessel that thirsted

"You need blood Aliquippa," the man said.

"What have you done to me? I was ready to leave with my ancestors. Why?"

"I have given you immortality. A gift. Now drink," he said. Moakawah opened her eyes, feared by what she saw. I was about to feed on her, but no, I did not.

"You have cursed me. Leave me!" I said. The stranger disappeared. I heard Moakawah's heartbeat, I yearned for her blood, but then I saw something I never thought I'd see. It was grandma Abeque.

"I am waiting for you. Come to me," she said.

"But I cannot. I am, immortal."

"You cannot remain immortal, for it is unnatural. I will set you free," my grandma said. She was right and as she held her ghostly hand at me, she urged me to leave the teepee.

"But Aliquippa, you will die! Please, drink me," Moakawah said as I gently smiled.

"No Moakawah. It is time for me to part with the eagles, to be a part of the wind like and the trees. Too much bloodshed has been spilled. Nihao," I said rising from my bed and opening the tent. The sun blistered me away until I was no more, but then I was a spirit of light and I was able to hold my grandma's hand. Moakawah saw this and cried.

"May you live long in the world of the spirits!" Moakawah said and I did.
