Long Gone and Moved On (chapter 22)

I woke up in Alec's arms, and knew that was something I could get used to.

I could feel the warmth radiating from his body, and his arms were wrapped around me like a blanket; warm, comfortable, safe.

I opened my eyes expecting to see him still asleep, but I was wrong.

He was staring intently at me, and he tensed a little when he saw me awake, almost like he didn't want me to know he was looking at me.

I smiled reassuringly at him and his frown turned into a grin.

"Good morning," he said quietly in a voice that indicated that he just woke up.

Damn! That voice was seriously hot!

"Morning," I smiled up at him, and relaxed into his chest.

We stayed curled up together for a few minutes, but eventually decided that we should get up.

I unwillingly wriggled out of his arms and pulled a thicker jumper over my head. The air was getting a little cooler and I shivered again.

Alec smirked at me and I ignored him, too happy to let him bother me. He zipped open the tent.

"After you," he smiled a genuine smile, the one with the dimples.

I swooned.

"Thank you," I smiled back after recovering from his attractiveness.

"No problem," Alec laughed, and I laughed with him.

We walked side by side to the shack where everyone else was still sleeping. I looked over to Alec who's eyes were gleaming mischeviously.

I raised my eyebrows at him and he made a hand gesture indicating for me to follow him.

We walked side by side back to the camp, and I took in the greenery.

I would miss this.

Alec led me to the place we stored extra things we may need, and I laughed when he reached for the buckets.

My laughter must have carried through the tents, as a few seconds later Hunter appeared from his tent, looking very dishevelled but neat at the same time.

How is that even possible?

Hunter eyed the buckets and silently retrieved one for himself. That was Hunter, speaking as minimal as possible.

We all made our way back to the beach, Hunter on my left and Alec on my right. I was still giggling like a little girl, and Alec and Hunter both shushed me when we got close.

We crept out of the trees, and as soon as we passed the shack, we broke into a sprint to the ocean.

I was the first one there so I grabbed my bucket and filled it with water in one fluid movement, already prepared for the effect the cold water would have.

Hunter and Alec were a little hesitant as they walked slowly into the water.

They had to keep their squeals in, and I could tell the cold was getting to them.

I rolled my eyes and whispered "suck it up you big babies," which got them moving faster.

I laughed.

We all had our buckets filled to the top as we tiptoed back to the shack.

Dahlia and Tristan were on the far left, Sarah and Zander on the far right, and everyone else was scattered between.

I knew who I was aiming for, and the other two seemed to have their targets too.

I went to the far left end of the shack, then realized something.

"Guys! Stop! Wet them all!" I whispered hurriedly, in case anyone woke up.

A few of the sleeping bodies moved, but none of them opened their eyes.

"One," Alec counted, getting ready.

"Two," Hunter whispered, smirking and was getting prepared too.

"THREE!" I shouted, and in that moment we dumped freezing buckets of water on our sleeping friends.

There was an immediate reaction.

Everyone screamed.

Well actually, almost everyone cursed.

Hunter, Alec and I sprinted in the opposite direction down the beach and I wasn't game to look behind me.

Alec however, was.

"They're not chasing us!" Alec exclaimed, stopping immediately, panting.

Hunter and I stopped too, but I felt like I could run much further.

"Oh you guys are so unfit! Come on!" I groaned teasingly.

"Shut up!" Hunter groaned, at the same time Alec exclaimed, "just because we can't run as far as you!"

I laughed at both of them, sitting down in the process.

I had a feeling we would be out here for a while, or at least until everyone had calmed down.

"What time are we leaving?" I asked both of them, looking out toward the shining crystal-blue ocean.

"Just after lunch, I think..." Alec replied, while Hunter stood up.

He claimed he wanted to enjoy the greenery behind us, so I didn't stop him.

"Cool," I answered Alec, not paying attention to anything except the water.

"Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to come over on Tuesday?" Alec asked, still not entirely focussed on our conversation.

"Sure..." I trailed, lying down on the sand, suddenly hit with a wave of exhaustion.

Hunter came back a few minutes later, and we decided to walk back, hoping they had cooled off enough.

We slowly wandered back to the shack, and everyone was there in different clothes.

As soon as they saw us, they glared.

"Hey guys, have a nice sleep?" Hunter asked innocently. It was a good idea for Hunter to talk, because he was one of those guys that no one could be mad at.

No one answered, everyone just sighed or muttered under their breath. We all laughed and joined the cirlce.

The rest of the morning went by quickly, and soon we were packed up and getting into our cars.

"So, we will all go back to my house and everyone can go home from there?" Alec asked everyone as we were about to head toward our separate cars.

"Ya sounds good. See you soon!" Mason exclaimed, and everyone said goodbyes.

I slept the whole way back to Alec's, my head resting on his shoulder.

I only woke up when Alec softly shook me, saying "we're almost back."

I got out of the car, got my bag from the back of the car and started walking toward Bronte's car.

I was immediately stopped when a gorgeous, brown-haired girl burst through Alec's front door.

"ALEC!" The stranger squealed, in a high pitch voice that was somehow not annoying.

"HAILEY!!!!" Alec screamed back, dropping everything he held in his hands and ran to her.

My stomach dropped.

He kissed her on the cheek and they hugged for a long time.

I turned away from them, to face everyone else with the same facial expression.

Shock.

I looked at Bronte who snapped out of her gaze. She nodded in understanding and we walked hurriedly to her car.

"I can't believe you're here! How long have you been here? It's so good to see you, Cherub!" Alec exclaimed, still in her embrace.

I fought back the tears as I climbed into Bronte's car.

I was stupid to think that he might love me.

I was stupid to believe that I was good enough for him.

I was stupid.

So was he.

That fucking asshole led me on!

Bronte drove away, but pulled over as soon as we were out of his driveway.

"Let it out," she said softly, her eyes sad for me.

I burst into tears.
