Long Gone and Moved On (chapter 19)

"Doko he ikimasuka?" Gran asked from my bedroom door, as I put enough clothes into my bag for the weekend.

"Kennet River he ikimasu. Watashi to Alec to Mase to Bronte to minnasaan wa kyampu ni ikimasu." I replied, hoping I didn't make any mistakes. I usually didn't but sometimes I was confused.

"Aa so desuka?" Gran asked, and I just nodded.

"So.. Are you ever going to tell Alec that you like him?" She continued, looking at me as I avoided her stare.

"iie, dame desu." I replied and shook my head, discouraged.

"Fine, but you should you know..." Gran trailed, smiling as she backed out of the room.

"Well I have to go, give Pa a kiss for me," I said, as Bronte's car pulled up to the driveway.

We walked down the stairs together to the front door.

"Sayounara," I ended, waving as I walked to Bronte's car.

"Sayounara Koibitou!" She replied, laughing.

As soon as I got in the car, Bronte rolled her eyes.

"I never understand anything you say to your Grandma! Why do you have to speak in Japanese?" She groaned, pulling out of the driveway.

"I don't know, it's just what we do. And we were just saying goodbye to each other," I explained.

Bronte shook her head and turned the volume up.

It was 'Borrow My Heart', the song Alec and I had sung on his roof the first time.

I sang along happily, only stopping when Bronte's staring got too much.

"What?" I asked, still going over the lyrics in my head.

These lyrics are basically my life!

"I have.. You are... You are singing! I have never heard you sing before! You are freaking incredible!" She exclaimed in awe.

"Oh, ya... I forgot about that. I'm not very good by the way..." I trailed, smiling.

Alec was the reason that I could sing without being sad.

Alec was the reason I was happy now.

Alec was the reason for everything, it seemed.

Bronte and I sung the whole way to Alec's house, and were running a little bit late.

When we got to the end of Alec's driveway, we could see that we were the last ones to arrive.

Bronte and I walked out of the car and to the cirlce of people standing at the bottom of the stairs that led to Alec's house.

"Hey guys," Bronte and I greeted everyone, with various 'hello's' back.

Mason was explaining to everyone which cars everyone were going in.

I was apparently going in the same car as Taylor, Mase, Hunter and Alec. I wasn't complaining at all.

Mase named this the leftover car, as the other few cars all had couples in them.

Everyone laughed at that.

When we all had our bags, we went to our respectable cars.

Mase was driving, Taylor called shotgun, and Hunter wanted to sit in the two seats in the very back of the car, as it was a seven seater.

That left Alec and I in the middle of the car, and I was really happy about that.

I'm not sure, but it seemed like he was too.

When I got in the car, I was suddenly hit with exhaustion and my head was hurting again.

I groaned.

"What's wrong?" Alec asked, looking at me with concern.

"My head hurts a little..." I trailed, looking back at him.

"Awh," Alec sighed, putting his arm around my waist.

I leaned my head on his shoulder and fell asleep almost instantly.

I was confused when I woke up, until I remembered that I had fallen asleep on Alec's shoulder.

I opened my eyes and realized that I was still in the same position.

"Feeling better?" Alec asked from above me, and I looked up and smiled at him.

"Yeah, a little," I responded.

"Of course you are," Mason added, and Taylor and Hunter burst laughing.

"Shut up I'm happy," Alec rushed, and I could not believe that he said that.

I was shocked.

Does that mean Alec likes me? Loves me? What does that mean? Am I over thinking this? Ya, probably should stop thinking. Ya, shut up.

"Yeah Mase, shut up!" I agreed, and closed my eyes again.

No one said anything for a few minutes, and I kept my eyes closed.

"Is she asleep?" Hunter whispered from the backseat, and Alec replied, "yeah, I think so."

I wasn't sure if I should tell them that I was still awake, but decided against it. This could be interesting.

"Do you think she knows?" Taylor asked, his voice still quiet.

"Guys, I'm telling you. She has no idea!" Mase said from the front.

Huh?

"Are you sure?" Alec asked, his voice concerned.

"Yeah man, she is clueless. She overthinks basically everything! And she would never guess it anyway, she doesn't have very good self-esteem," Mase replied, not keeping quiet the others.

"I know.. But I don't understand that! She is so self-concious, but she is the most beautiful person I know," Alec huffed, and my heart was just about beating out of my chest.

"Oh give it a break!" Taylor said, while the other two boys agreed.

Did they really believe that?

"No!" Alec replied, and I could imagine him poking his tongue out.

"You give it a break, Taylor," Hunter said from the backseat, still quiet, which got all the boys laughing.

I figured this was a good time to pretend to wake up, so I moved a little, then opened my eyes.

"Huh?" I faked, rubbing my eyes.

"Oh sorry! We didn't mean to wake you," Alec said softly, while Mase rolled his eyes, along with Taylor actually.

"No, that's okay. Was I asleep for long?" I asked, trying to sound sleepy.

"Nah, only a few minutes. But it's a good thing because we're almost there," Hunter said quietly, pointing out the window.

I turned my head to look out the window, and saw the glistening blue water forming into waves that broke on the shore. The sand was so white, and there were plenty of logs and sticks to make our shack.

That's something we did every time we came here, we made a beach shack out of logs. We were actually pretty good now, sometimes a few people would sleep in it at a time. I hoped I got to sleep in there one night.

We turned off onto the side road that led to our favourite spot.

Our spot was about ten minutes off the main road on the beach side. There was a small group of trees that formed our camping spot, and from there, the trail to the beach was only about fifty feet.

When Mase parked the car, I jumped out and walked to where the fire would be. I was really happy to be back.

Everyone was getting their bags out of the car, so I went back to help.

I took out my backpack and a tent.

That's when I realized I didn't know who I was sharing a tent with.

Over the years, I had shared tents with basically everyone in our group.

Mase was always left with the task of sorting out tents. I think this was because he knew everyone best, so he knew who would work in what tents.

"Hey Mase, what are the arrangements for tents?" I asked, and he smirked.

"I'll tell everyone when the tents are set up..." He trailed, which got groans from almost everyone.

"Oh will you shut up? You know I always put everyone in good tents!"

"Well, I don't actually," Tristan smirked, taking a tent out of it's bag.

I smiled at him and his smirk turned into a smile. I was truly happy that he was here, as he had been one of my best friends for ages. He had actually moved here with us, but had lost the Australian accent very quickly. He was like my brother.

Once all the tents were set up, we sat on the logs that circled the fire, as Mason read out the sleeping arrangements.

"All the couples are sharing tents. So Dahlia and Tristan, Bronte and Seth, Sarah and Zander, Alaister and Katie, and Alec and Tamsin," he stated, and I threw a rock at him.

"What was that for?" He squealed, rubbing his arm where the rock had hit him.

Pity, I was aiming for his face...

"You know exactly what that was for," I stated, glaring at him.

He winked at me and continued.

"That just leaves me, Taylor and Hunter, and we are sharing the big tent," he smirked, as we all groaned in protest.

"You always get the good tent!" Alec whined.

"Would you rather I switch places with you and you can sleep with Hunter and Taylor and I will sleepin with Tam?" Mason ranted, which quickly shut Alec up.

I laughed at them.

The tents were all in a group, and Alec and I got the one of the far left.

We put our backpacks in the tent together and walked back to the fire pit.

"What's the plan now guys?" I asked, as it was almost four, and I wanted to go for a surf.

We only ever brought two surfboards, because more became too much of a hassle. And we also had a rule that no one could go surfing, or in the water alone, for safety reasons.

I was looking over at the surfboard when Alec started laughing.

"Want to go for a surf?" He asked, smiling.

"Ya..." I trailed, smiling back.

"Let's go then! I'll race you!" Alec called, and I sprinted to the boards, taking my dress off to reveal my bathers underneath.

I was always prepared.

I got there first and grabbed the smaller board, my favourite one.

I tucked it safely under my arm and ran towards the trail, Alec not far behind.

At the end of the trail I was taken aback by the beauty of this beach.

The best part about this end of the beach, was that it was basically ours. No one ever came down here, as it was too far from the main road unless you were camping, like us.

I put my board down on the sand beside the water, Alec doing the same seconds later.

We sprinted toward the water, I was a foot ahead.

When we got to our knees, I was about to dive when I looked over to Alec.

He looked back mischieviously, before lunging at me, tackling me into the water.

The first thing I thought when I went under was that it was freezing; I think my heart nearly stopped.

I broke the surface and took a breath, trying to find Alec. He came up a second later, laughing at me while flicking his hair out of his eyes.

I don't know how I didn't realize his shirtless-ness before, but now I was staring.

But I soon forgot about that when he resumed his laughing. Now it was my turn to lunge at him.

I took us both underwater, and didn't let go until I was running out of air.

As soon as I let go, I started to run back toward the beach to get the surfboard.

I took two steps, then was picked up and put over his shoulder.

"ALEC!" I squealed. "Put me down!"

"Fine!" He screamed back, and threw me back.

"Dammit Alec!" I screamed as my head reached the surface.

He was already back to the beach, and putting his legstrap on. I walked back to shore to do the same.

We paddled out to the back, where all the good waves were, and waited for the next set.

"So... Like our sleeping arrangements?" I asked, smirking at him.

"I am actually, very happy!" He smiled, "and you?"

"Ya..." I trailed, then lay back on my board and paddled into a wave. Alec tried to catch the same one but was too slow.

I stood up and went left, trying some tricks. I landed two of them, then stacked.

I paddled back out to where Alec still was and sat up.

"Is there anything you can't do?" He asked, smiling at me.

I just laughed at him.

"Your turn," I stated, and poked my tongue out at him.

He poked his tongue out too, then lay down on his board.

I ducked under the wave and watched him.

He looked so at ease, it was hard to imagine him anywhere else.

We surfed for another hour or so, then paddled back into shore together.

Everyone else was on the beach, and I knew that half of them were dying to have a go, especially Tris.

If there is one thing that Tristan can do, it is surfing.

I walked over and gave my board to him, and he smiled appreciatively.

Dahlia took the other board, even though she wasn't very good.

That's cute.

Alec and I joined the circle of people sitting down. There was everyone except Seth, Bronte, Zander and Sarah. They were probably looking for good sticks to toast their marshmallows on.

"Are you guys dating yet?" Taylor whined, looking between Alec and I. Everyone in the circle laughed.

I shook my head and sighed in discouragement, and Alec just laughed.

"They wish!" Mase stated, causing more laughter.

Alec and I both nodded sarcastically.

I knew I was going to have a good weekend.

This is going to be fun!
