Long Gone and Moved On (chapter 18)

My head was pounding.

My stomach was churning.

I was shivering and I had three blankets on.

I was sick.

I slowly rolled out of my bed to get to the bathroom.

Hopefully a nice warm shower will help.

It didn't.

After my shower, I changed into my dark grey sweatpants, my semi long-sleeved WWF top, and my black hoodie.

I tied my hair into a messy bun, grabbed my phone off my bedside table and went downstairs.

I knew Gran was the only one home, as Pa and Liam had gone to a football game a few hours away, and were staying overnight.

"Awh, koibitou, you don't feel well?" My grandmother asked as I walked slowly down the stairs.

I shook my head, not wanting to speak.

"Come lie on the couch and watch movies. I will make you some of my pumpkin soup," Gran said softly and comfortingly.

I did as she said. I put 'Crazy Stupid Love' on, and lay down on my side to face the t.v.

Gran came in a few minutes later, carrying some pumpking soup and bread.

"Mmm Oishii, arigatou," I thanked her, and she quietly left the room, leaving me alone in the darkness.

The movie was almost over, when my phone buzzed.

I couldn't be bothered looking at the text, so I ignored it.

A few seconds later, it buzzed again.

I sighed and picked it up.

It was Alec.

'Hey, do you want to do something today?' It read, and my heart beat faster. I opened the second one; 'You know, if you're not doing anything...' I laughed at that, which didn't help things with my stomach.

I took deep breaths, trying to calm my stomach down.

'Sorry Alec, I can't. I'm probably not going anywhere this weekend,' I responded, keeping my phone in my hands.

It buzzed almost immediately, which made me very happy.

'Why not? Is something wrong?'

'I think I've just caught a cold, that's all. I should be better by Monday,' I explained, turning my attention back to the movie.

It was quiet for a few minutes, until my phone started ringing.

"Hello?" I asked, not bothering to check the caller ID before I answered.

"Please don't tell me you're dying," Alec replied dramatically, and I laughed again.

"Alec," I groaned. "Stop making me laugh, it hurts too much to laugh."

"Sorry!" He responded automatically, and I tried not to laugh again.

"That's okay. What's up?" I asked, not wanting this conversation to be over.

"I'm worrying about you while kicking my family's ass in cards," Alec stated, his voice caring at the first part and mischeivous at the last.

In the background, I heard lots of screams of protests, but the loudest was Sam.

'You are not kicking my ass in cards! The only person that can do that is Tamsin!'

I couldn't help it, I laughed again.

"Ya, I'm sure you are beating them," I replied sarcastically, which got me an immediate response from him.

"I am!" He protested in a childish voice, which made me laugh again.

"Alec!" I scolded, still laughing.

"Sorry!" He repeated, and I could hear the frown on his face.

'Stop talking to your girlfriend and focuss on the game! It's been your turn for ages!' I heard Jack whine, and I heard a lot of noises on the other side, I think the phone was dropped.

"Hey Tam, sorry about them. Alec's just getting annoyed at Jack for no reason, as always. How are you?" Ally explained, and I smiled.

"I've been better..." I trailed, which led to Ally wishing for me to get better.

I ended up speaking to Alec again for half an hour, and was ecstatic that he actually wanted to talk to me.

Several times I had to tell him to stop making me laugh, and several times he apologized.

After I hung up, I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.

I woke up some time in the evening, with Gran sitting on the recliner.

"How are you feeling, sweetheart?" She asked, looking over to me.

"A little better, my head is still pounding though.." I trailed, lifting a hand to my head hoping it would make a difference to the pain.

Gran left the room without any further words, and returned with more soup and two painkillers.

"Thanks Gran," I said gratefully, which led to Gran smiling.

"No problem. Who was the boy you were speaking to on the phone before?" She asked, and I nearly choked on my soup.

"Alec..." I trailed, not wanting to get into this conversation.

"Boyfriend?" Was all she asked, and I covered my face with my hand and shook my head.

"You wish," Gran added, and I gasped.

"How did.. uh.. wh. How.. huh?" I mumbled, trying to form a coherent sentence.

"I'm not stupid. Every time you say his name you smile. He makes you laugh and I assume you are good friends as you have been spending lots of time together," Gran explained, and I couldn't disagree.

"I don't smile every time I say his name!" Was all I could disagree with, which led to Gran smirking.

"Try," she challenged.

"Alec," I said, and she laughed.

Dammit!

"Alec," I tried again, and failed.

"Fine, you're right!" I huffed, and turned my attention to my soup.

Gran and I stayed up late watching movies and occassionally talking. I felt bad that we hadn't done this in so long.

We ended up going to sleep at about 1AM.

When I woke up on Sunday morning, I still had a headache but my stomach wasn't hurting as much and I was in less pain overall.

I spent the day sleeping on and off, only staying awake to eat, drink or check my phone.

Some time in the afternoon, I checked my phone and had one text message from Alec.

"I hope you feel better Tam! x" it read, and I nearly squealed at the 'x' on the end. I thanked him and switched my phone off, falling back asleep.

I was still feeling a little sick on Monday, but I went to school anyway.

As soon as I stepped out of the car, Alec walked over to me.

"Hey Tam, how are you?" He asked, concern in his voice and his eyes.

"A bit better, but still not great..." I trailed, and Alec hugged me.

He kept his arm around me while we walked to my locker, and I smiled to myself, enjoying his presence. I didn't care if he liked me or if he didn't, I was his friend and he was mine, and we were both happy with that.

At lunch Mason proposed that we go camping for the weekend, which began on Friday.

All of us agreed, so we began planning.

By Tuesday, we all agreed that we would meet at Alec's house and go to our camping spot from there.

Our camping spot was one of my favourite places, Kennet River. It had a beach opposite where we stayed, and no one ever went there.

There was a camping ground in the town over, but we preffered Kennet River, as it had the beach and it was much quieter.

The rest of the week went by quickly, and soon enough it was Friday.

Time to go camping!
