Long Gone and Moved On (chapter 14)

Waking up in the morning is difficult, especially when it is Monday. But today was different, because I got to see Alec.

I was becoming pathetic, wasn't I?

With my family still at my aunty and uncle's house, it was very strange getting ready. Gran wasn't there to talk to and tell me that I look fine, Liam wasn't there telling me to get in the car, and Pa wasn't there doing his crosswords.

I didn't end up eating breakfast, as I wasn't hungry.

I made myself a chai and sat at the counter to drink it.

I was still tired, as I hadn't got much sleep the previous night.

I had been working on my assignment on Alec, that was due in two days, on Wednesday.

I got to school with twelve minutes to spare and went to Dahlia's locker, where her and Bronte were standing.

"So, how was Alec's?" Dahlia asked in a suggestive voice, and I rolled my eyes.

"Did anything happen?" Bronte asked, serious now.

"No, nothing happened. I met his other brother, I bet everyone in pool, we all ganged up on Sam in cards and we hung out on the roof," I explained, and their jaws dropped when I mentioned the roof.

"What??" I exclaimed, worried that I had said something wrong.

"You went to the roof? No one has ever been to the roof!!" Dahlia exclaimed, and I laughed at her.

"I can see why, especially if a guy was going to go up there..." I trailed, and laughed at the thought of two guys in the small room together.

"Why?" Bronte questioned, her eyes narrowing at me.

"Because to get to the roof, you have to climb through a window which is in a really small room that can barely fit two people in it," I stated, starting to have fun with this, as I knew they would think the worst.

"WHAT???" Dahlia shrieked, and Bronte and I shushed her.

"What do you mean, 'what'?" I asked her, smirking.

"So you and Alec went in a really small room together, before going to his roof, of which no one else has ever been to before? That's what you are saying right?" Dahlia continued, and I frowned.

"Ya? And?"

"And you say he doesn't like you!" She smirked, then walked away before I could get another word in.

Ugh she was so frustrating.

Bronte smiled at me comfortingly, and we walked to our next class together.

Tuesday was a much better day, as we were planning our picnic for Friday.

Every few Friday's, we would all get together and do something as a group. This week, we were going to the beach where Alec and I had been, to have a picnic.

Everyone was talking about it at lunch, as we were all really excited. We organised what everyone was going to bring, until I noticed that Alec was being quieter than usual.

"What's up?" I asked him, and he shrugged.

"Mum says I can't go on Friday, unless I bring Jack along..." He trailed, looking down to the table.

"So? Bring Jack!" I exclaimed, happy to be possibly seeing him again.

"You don't think everyone would mind?" He asked, looking really concerned.

"No! Everyone would love him! He is almost my favourite Hurley brother!" I stated, smiling up at him.

"Almost? Does that mean I am your favourite Hurley brother?" Alec asked, his voice joking.

"Nah, sorry. Sam is definetly my favourite! He is way too fun to tease!" I teased Alec.

"Awh, damn. I don't think he likes you much anymore, though... Not after last night," He replied, and I could tell everyone was listening in on our conversation now.

Almost as if Alec was reading my mind, he said, "calm down! We are sixteen! A girl can't go over to a guy's house? Aren't we a bit old for the whole 'girl germs boy germs' thing?"

Everyone at the table burst laughing, including Alec and I.

"Damn, I might just have to switch back to you..." I trailed, pretending like I was thinking about it.

"That's better!" Alec exclaimed, and I laughed at him.

"So I hope you are all prepared for your presentations tomorrow. If you need an extension, please come and see me. You can continue with your presentation this class, and I am looking forward to seeing them tomorrow." Mrs. Peak said as she began the lesson.

I turned to face Alec, who was sitting on my left.

"What are you doing for your presentation?" I asked him, and he grinned wickedly.

"You will just have to wait and see!"

"Oh god, should I be worried?" I frowned.

"Very. What are you doing?" He replied, and I thought about telling him for a moment.

"You will just have to wair and see!" I smirked, winking at him.

"That is so unfair!" Alec exclaimed.

"How do you find it unfair that I don't tell you when you are not going to tell me?" I asked, confused.

"Because mine is awesome!"

"And mine isn't?" I challenged, as he realised what he had just said.

"No.. Wait... I didn't mean that! I meant, ugh, sorry!" He rushed, and I laughed in his face.

"I'm still not telling you!" I replied, still laughing.

"Should be worried?" Alec said, now he was the one frowning.

"Very," I replied, and we both started laughing together.

"Do you really think it will be okay for Jack to tag along on Friday? It's usually just a group thing..." Alec trailed, looking worried again.

"It will be fine! Tris is going to be there, so Jack won't be the only one that isn't usually there! Plus, he will have fun and it will be nice to see him again," I smiled at the memory of Sunday afternoon, playing cards on the porch.

Alec sighed and looked away, clearly still worried about it.

"Alec! Stop worrying it will be fine!"

"I'm not worried about Jack... I was going to plan something, but now I can't. Which sucks because I am tired of pretending all the time. But I can't do that with Jack there. I don't know, I'll just have to do it another time." Alec ranted, and I was confused again.

"What?" I laughed, and Alec smiled at me.

"Nothing, I'll explain later..." He trailed, and stared out the window, ending the conversation.

What was he trying to say?
