Long Gone and Moved On (chapter 11)

It was 7pm and we were all sitting on the back porch, enjoying the pink sunset and our double chocolate chip brownies with cream for dessert. We were playing cards, well 500 to be more specific.

I was on Pa's team, and we usually kicked Liam and Gran's asses.

It was my turn to bid, and I bid seven hearts.

Pa looked up at me with a small smile, trying not to give anything away. But I understood what he was trying to say, he had hearts too.

We ended up bidding eight hearts, and we won the hand, which won us the game.

We started singing 'We are the Champions', while Gran rolled her eyes and Liam literally got up and walked away.

Wow, someone was in a bad mood.

I decided to see what was wrong with Liam, so I said goodnight to my grandparents and walked upstairs to his room.

I knocked softly three times, so that he knew it was me.

I walked in and found him sitting on his bed, his head against his headboard. His eyes were closed but I knew that he knew I was here.

I sat on the edge of his bed and waited for him to talk.

"Tam, I don't really want to talk about it! I'm not going to be one of those guys that gets frustrated because he doesn't know what a girl is thinking..." He trailed, and I tried not to smirk at him.

"Why don't you tell me why you're confused, and then you can be one of those guys that gets their amazing little sister to help them?" I asked, and I giggled a bit.

"Ugh, Tam, don't. This isn't funny okay?" Liam sighed, discouraged.

"Fine! But you should tell me you know," I stated, and moved to sit beside him, so that his left shoulder was against my right.

"Well, there's a girl that I really like but she is way too good for me. She is in the same group as me but she is too smart, too beautiful, too good. I just... She'd never like me, even though sometimes she acts like she does. Like today, she was flirting with me and being really nice and looking at me heaps, but then she turns around to ignoring me and staring out the window..." He trailed again, and covered his face with his hands.

"Awh, my older brother is in loooove!" I teased, but then I was serious, "Sometimes when girls stare out the window, it is because they are thinking about the guy they like, and they don't even notice anyone or anything, because they are in a daze. Almost all girls do that, and if she was flirting with you earlier, she probably likes you!!!" I stated, excited that my brother was finally over his last girlfiend who broke his heart.

He seemed to be thinking about it, so I didn't say anything, I just enjoyed talking with my brother.

"So what is happening with you? Any guys I should know about?" Liam smirked, seemingly back to his normal self.

I sighed, exasparated, which got his attention.

"Ooooh there is!" He squealed, then chanted, "TELL ME TELL ME TELL ME TELL ME!"

"Liiiaaamm!" I groaned.

"Oh come on! I told you about my girl problems, now it's your turn!" Liam smirked, and nudged me with his shoulder, nearly making fall off his bed.

"Fine!" I sighed, "I like this guy but he's in love with someone and we are doing an assignment together and I just don't know. I get really confused. But we are really good friends and at times it seems like he likes me, but I know he loves someone." I ranted, looking anywhere except my brother's face.

"Do you know that he is in love with someone else?" He questioned, looking directly at me.

"Ya..." I trailed, but then I thought about it. He had never said that he loved someone else.

"No..." I corrected, which got Liam laughing.

I took advantage of this and pushed him off the bed, but this didn't interrupt his laughter.

Damn it!

"Well, I think you are the girl he loves, but I'll need examples. Although I'm not sure I want them. I don't know, but I'm here if you need a guy's perspective! But I guess you have Mase for that," Liam said from the floor, still laughing slightly.

It was nice to see my brother smiling, finally!

"Anyway, I'm going to bed. I'll see you in the morning!" I said as I walked out of his room.

"Night Tam!" He called after me, and I smiled, happy that my brother was happy.

I took my shower and crawled into bed, when a thought suddenly hit me.

Alec had never said he loved someone other than me.

Shit. I really needed to know who he loved.

I decided that I wouldn't be able to sleep until I asked, so I got my phone off my bedside table and squinted at the light coming from it.

"You really need to tell me who this girl is..." I sent him, and put my phone back on the table.

I didn't expect a reply until morning, so when I got one, I jumped.

"Yeah, I should, shouldn't I?" Alec sent back, and I didn't know how to respond to that, so I didn't. I just chucked my phone to the end of my bed and fell asleep.

"Tam! Wait up!" Alec called from behind me.

I turned around to see him walking toward me, flicking his hair off his face.

I think I lost all brain cells in that moment, but I regained them before I started talking.

"What's up?"

"Physically, not much. Mentally, a lot..." He trailed, and I was confused again.

"Why? Thinking about that girl again?" I smirked, not sure if I wanted him to be thinking about her.

After I thought about the fact that Alec had never said the girl wasn't me, I realised how stupid I had been. There is no way a guy like him could like an ordinary girl like me.

"Always," Alec simply replied, and I smiled at him.

Right now I didn't care if he liked someone else, I was just happy to be spending time with him.

"So... How long have you liked this girl for exactly?" I asked, not expecting the answer that followed.

"2 years 4 months 6 days, exactly," he replied, frowning a bit.

How did he remember that?

I voiced my question, and he laughed at my suprised expression.

"Because I saw her first on my birthday, and as soon as I saw her I knew that I loved her. She was one of those girls that got everyone's attention, but didn't know she could. She still is like that, actually..." Alec trailed, as we walked in the general direction of the cafeteria.

"Wow, that's impressive," I stated, looking away from him.

This was actually starting to hurt...

"How long have you liked your guy?" He smirked, as we entered the cafeteria.

"I'm not sure, a week or two?" I guessed, and he laughed.

"Why are you laughing?" I scowled, as we made out way to our table; Bronte and Seth already sitting there, his arm around her waist.

That was cute..

"Because you seem to think about him a lot if it has only been a few weeks," he stated, as we took our seats across from Bronte and Seth.

"Yeah she does! I can't even get a conversation out of her without mentioning his name!" Bronte smirked, and I was tempted to hit her.

"Bronte? No," I scowled, and sunk deeper into my seat.

"Tamsin? Yes," She replied, and I ignored her.

"So... Is there any chance that you could tell me the name of this guy she likes?" Alec asked Bronte, and both her and Seth raised their eyebrows questioningly.

I don't know why, but I think I saw something in the way Seth looked at Alec. When I looked over to Alec, I knew there was something going on.

Ugh these boys are so confusing!

"I could. But one, she would kill me," I nodded my head in agreement, "and two, I don't think she likes him... i think she loves him. But ya, that's my opinion," Bronte stated, looking serious.

My eyes bulged as she said that, and I shook my head furiously.

"Ya.. She definelty does..." Seth trailed, agreeing with Bronte.

"Wait, YOU know???" Alec questioned Seth, and Seth sunk into his seat.

"Ya..." Seth trailed, and he looked guilty for some reason.

"You are so telling me later, just letting you know," Alec replied, and I looked at Seth to make sure he wasn't actually going to tell him.

He shook his head, agreeing with me.

I breathed a sigh of relief, as the rest of our group took their seats.

The rest of the day went by quickly, and quite frankly, was very boring.

I was relieved to get home to say the least, happy that it was Friday the next day.

I picked up my sketch book and lay on my bed, drawing a face.

I tore out the sheet of paper, scrunched it up, and threw it on the floor next to the bin. It was supposed to go in the bin, but I could not be bothered getting up to move it.

Half an hour later, there was a knock on the front door, but I ignored it. I knew Gran or Pa would get it, so I left it.

Shortly after, a happy looking Bronte appeared in my doorway scaring me, making me scream actually .

"Jesus christ Bronte! Don't do that!" I exclaimed, picking my sketch book back off the floor, as I had dropped it.

"Nah, it's too fun! Anyway, I was just wondering if you wanted to talk for a bit. I mean, I know you're dying to talk about Alec, and I kind of want to talk about Seth..." Bronte trailed, looking absolutely smitten.

"Sure!' I exclaimed, "How are you and Seth going?" I asked, not wanting the attention to go to Alec and I.

"It's going so good! He's so sweet and he really likes me! And honestly, the dude is hot! I still can't believe that he likes me!' She exclaimed, walking around my room, not being able to stay still.

"Aww that is so cute Bronte! You guys are possibly the cutest couple I have ever seen..." I trailed, thinking about Alec for some reason.

"No.. You and Alec are the cutest couple I have ever seen," she grinned mischieviously.

"Not a couple!" I reminded her automatically, almost like a reflex reaction.

"It's just a matter of time, I've seen the way he looks at you! And who else could he love? You are basically the only girl he talks to. Well other than me, Dahlia, Sarah and Katie, but we are all taken," Bronte gleamed, clearly proud of herself.

"It's not happening Bronte," I sighed, and I was hit by the truth in my words.

Suddenly I wanted to cry.

"Awh Tam..." She trailed, coming over to sit next to me on the floor.

"No, don't. I'm fine, I just really like him," I whispered, looking down at my hands, that were playing with my pencil.

I didn't realise, but Bronte had picked up the drawing I had just done of Alec and looked at it.

"No, you don't. You love him! Get this through your head! By the way, this drawing is really good," She replied, and I sighed.

"No I don't. Okay, maybe I do. But it doesn't make a difference, he doesn't like me so that makes everything pointless!" I exclaimed, before reaching over to get the drawing out of her hands.

"Nope! I'm keeping this!" She said, as she slid it into her pocket.

Damn it!

"And he does like you, by the way... Anyway, I'm going over to Seth's for tea, so I will talk to you tomorrow!" And with that, Bronte got off my floor, made sure she had the drawing in her pocket, and walked out of my room.

I walked to English quickly, eager for it to be the last class on Friday, and eager to see Alec.

I got to class a few minutes before it started, so I had time to talk.

I looked around, but realised that none of my friends were here yet.

And neither was Alec.

The one time I'm early, no one else is here!

I didn't have too long to be annoyed, as Alec and Mason walked into the classroom a minute later. They looked like they were in a serious conversation, so I didn't interupt them. As soon as they took their seats beside me, they stopped their conversation.

"Hey guys," I smiled, very happy in this moment.

"Hey," they both replied simultaneously.

We started talking about nothing in particular, then the teacher put a video on, and we all started to watch in the dark.

Two minutes into the movie, I felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned to see Alec, handing me a piece of paper.

I looked around to see if the teacher was watching, but she had her back to us, looking at the screen too.

I grabbed the piece of paper in his hand, and was confused to find the drawing I had done the previous week, along with another piece of paper that said, "Here's your drawing back :) ". I looked over to him with confusion on my face, so I thought I should write that on paper.

"How did you know it was mine?" I wrote, then handed it to him.

I knew he had read what I wrote, because he muffled a laugh, earning him a dirty look from the teacher, which made me laugh.

He quickly scribbled something down, and passed it back to me.

"I just did," Alec replied, and I had mixed emotions.

Part of me was confused as to how he knew it was mine, and the other part of me was ecstatic because of the same reason.

We watched the rest of the movie in silence, and when it was finally time to go I did my little happy dance as I all but ran out of the classroom.

TGIF, that's for sure!

"Tamsin!"

I turned to see Mase walking over to me, as I was opening my locker. I put my books in my locker, closed it and turned to face Mason.

"Hey, what's up?" I smiled, eager to get home.

"Nothing... Just thinking. Hey, you still like him, right?" He asked, looking behind him to see who could possibly listening.

"I might like him more than like, but ya, I do..." I trailed, and Mason smirked confidently.

"Shuut uup!" I told him, and started walking off toward my car.

"See you tomorrow!" Was all he called back, and I was momentarily confused, until I remembered the party.

Yay! I had something to look forward to!

I had a quiet night, watching a football game on t.v with everyone, then went to bed early.

Just as I was about to fall asleep, my phone lit up my room from my beside table.

I rolled over and picked it up.

It was Alec.

I wondered why he was texting me so late, and opened it.

I gasped, and dropped my phone.

What?????
