Pathetic

Each and every day at the hospital was the same for Ichimatsu. He would wake up, go to sleep. Wake up, go to sleep. He continuously refused to speak to the doctors and nurses who checked on him frequently. He saw no point in speaking to people who didn't care.

"Good morning, Ichimatsu!" one nurse said, smiling sweetly as she pushed a cart filled with medications into his room. "The doctor found a new drug that could help!"

Ichimatsu pretended to be asleep. Each day he began to feel worse and worse. The more he stayed at the hospital, the more hopeless he began to feel.

"Ichimatsu, did you hear me?" the nurse said softly, gently petting his head.

Ichimatsu grunted angrily. "Of course I heard you!" he spat. "Do you think I'm here because I'm freaking deaf?"

The nurse looked somewhat hurt, but she quickly brushed it off and pushed the cart to Ichimatsu's bed.

"You want to leave, don't you?" she asked while she began to go through all the drugs, trying to find what she had just spoken about.

"I don't care if I ever leave," Ichimatsu spat, "It's not like they'll let me if I say I want to leave. It's like a prison here. I can't go anywhere or do anything."

"You miss your brothers, don't you?" the nurse asked, somewhat laughing, smiling brightly.

"What's there to miss about people who could care less? I'm just trash that has no will to live," he sighed, looking away.

Ichimatsu couldn't help but think of the night when it all happened. Though he was "out cold" he could still hear everything that had been going on. He could still clearly hear Jyushimatsu's muffled sobs as his other brothers crowded around him.

"I'm pathetic..." Ichimatsu rasped. He missed seeing Jyushimatsu's happy face so much. He hadn't realized how lonely he had been up until now. "This world doesn't need pathetic people..."

"If your brothers hated you, I'm pretty sure they would have killed you!" the nurse smiled, pulling a shot out of the cart.

"They're too scared to get close to me..." Ichimatsu muttered. "If they weren't scared, yes, they would have killed me already. I have no purpose here. Just let me out of this stupid prison so I can hurry up and finish life."

"Give me your arm," the nurse said, adjusting the settings on Ichimatsu's bed so it would move upwards a little.

"W-why..." Ichimatsu nearly whimpered, pulling the white hosptial bed sheets even more over himself.

"The new drug is a vaccine. It has the ability to ease your thoughts. Like, make you happy. So, give me your arm," the nurse ordered, grabbing Ichimatsu's left arm, rolling up the sleeve to his hospital gown.

"DON'T..." Ichimatsu screamed, "STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP!"

"What's wrong?" the nurse asked, chuckling. "Are you scared?"

"WHY WOULDN'T I BE? SHOTS ARE THE LAST THING I'D WANT BEFORE I DIED!" Ichimatsu yelled pitifully, squirming around like a young child.

"Ease your muscles, Ichimatsu," the nurse ordered, spraying rubbing alcohol on his arm then gently wiping it with gauze. "Just calm down. If you have this shot, you might be able to go home next week."

Ichimatsu didn't stop screaming. And before he knew it, he was sobbing like a small child at the doctor's office.

"CALM DOWN, WILL YOU?" the nurse ordered, losing her patience, jabbing the shot into his arm.

Ichimatsu squealed in pain, feeling his heart beat faster and faster. An uneasy feeling washed over him as he felt the medication in the shot go into his arm. He began to hear a loud ringing in his ears, and before he knew it, he had passed out.

"Looks like his body doesn't like shots," the nurse laughed, throwing the empty shot onto her cart. "Maybe since he's still out, I'll give him a few more. The doctor did have five more he needed in order to get better..."
