ESP Kitty
Ichimatsu swung open the front door of the house and walked slowly inside. He could hear his brothers laughing and carrying on in the living room up ahead.
"They never leave, do they?" Ichimatsu thought bitterly. "I can't go back to the alley, because Jyushimatsu will find me way too easily...I just want a place where I can be alone again..."
"Hey!" Osomatsu laughed, stumbling out of the living room, nearly crashing into his brother.
"How is he drunk already?!" Ichimatsu thought angrily. "It's not even lunchtime yet, and here they are, drinking their hearts out!"
"Ichimatsu!" Choromatsu called from the living room, "Did you find a job?"
"Maybe only Oso is drunk then. Choromatsu sounds fine, but who knows...gosh I hate living with these people..."
"K-kinda..." Ichimatsu replied as his stomach growled loudly. "I-I'm having an interview tonight at six thirty..."
Ichimatsu shuffled his feet into the living room, slumped over as usual, and sat down in his corner.
"Wow!" Todomatsu exclaimed, "I can't believe you found a job..."
"Oh, my brother," Karamatsu said, pointing his index finger at Ichimatsu, "We wish you the best of luck. We love you from the bottom of our hear-"
Karamatsu stopped as soon Todomatsu did a karate chop on his head, causing him to end his painful lines.
"So, I guess you won't be going with us to Chibita's tonight?" Choromatsu asked, reading a magazine on how to find jobs.
"Tch...no..." Ichimatsu mumbled as ESP kitty crawled into his lap.
At that very moment, Ichimatsu realized he hadn't seen ESP kitty in months. A feeling of warmth washed over his body as he clung to his mind reading cat who understood him more than anyone.
"Chibita will be disappointed that you're not there," Todomatsu said, looking at Ichimatsu. "He's been worried about you ever since you were at the hospital."
"How many freaking people did you tell..." Ichimatsu mumbled darkly.
"Well, when people ask about you, it's not like we're going to lie," Choromatsu said, closing his magazine and sitting up at the table.
Ichimatsu let out a small frustrated hiss. His stomach growled quietly again.
"I feel like I need to throw up again..." Ichimatsu thought, taking several deep breaths. "But everyone would end up hearing me..."
"You look sick, brother," Karamatsu commented, scooting up to Ichimatsu. "What's wrong?"
"Get the heck away..." Ichimatsu thought angrily, "You don't freaking care...go away...go AWAY!"
"You look really pale, Ichi," Todomatsu said, "Are you sick?"
"Stop acting like you care!" Ichimatsu spat in his mind.
"Stop acting like you care!" ESP Kitty said out loud.
The room grew silent.
"Ichimatsu, we do care," Todomatsu said in a hurt voice.
"Why would you even think that?" Osomatsu asked, walking normally into the room. It turned out he wasn't drunk at all. He was just a moron.
Ichimatsu didn't say a word.
"I just want to disappear now..." Ichimatsu thought, pulling his knees closer to his chest.
"I just want to disappear now," ESP Kitty said.
"Ichimatsu what's the matter with you?" Choromatsu asked, slightly raising his eyebrows.
"N-nothing is wrong..." Ichimatsu spat angrily. At times like these, even though he loved cats to death, he really hated ESP Kitty.
"Brother, you don't have to hide your feelings away!" Karamatsu said dramatically, putting his dark shades on. "We're all here for each other."
"That was painful," Osomatsu said, walking up to Ichimatsu, "But you look like you're dying from something else. Tell us."
"I'm fine!" Ichimatsu spat, standing up violently. "I don't need help! I don't need people to treat me like I'm a fragile object! I'm FINE!"
I him stormed out of the room, running up the stairs that led to the roof.
"They're all liars...they're never here for me. They don't give crap about what I do to myself. I don't even deserve to still be alive." Ichimatsu thought as he walked on the roof.
"Maybe I should..." he mumbled, walking towards the edge of the roof.
"Don't be stupid...Karamatsu has fallen off of this roof hundreds of times. You can't die just by falling off this stupid roof. It's too close to the ground..." Ichimatsu thought.
He closed his eyes, listening to the sounds of the wind gently flowing through the leaves of nearby trees. He could barely hear those same five birds, still fighting as well.
"Why...did I make it? How come I didn't die that night...?" Ichimatsu said out loud quietly. "It's not fair...to force a person to stay when they want to leave...Why are they making me do this? Why do I have to find a job to 'clear my terrible thoughts'? Why can't I just go where I want to? Why can't I just die? Loners like me...don't deserve to stay alive. They don't have a purpose in this world. Excess lives. People like me...don't need to stay. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only excess life left...and when I leave...maybe, just maybe...this world would be happier. Much happier."
Choromatsu, who had been listening from the doorway that led inside the house from the roof, walked out and sat down by Ichimatsu.
"What's wrong?" he asked, staring at the sky.
Ichimatsu just pulled his knees to his chest and rested his head on them.
"Why would I tell someone who would just tell everyone else? I'm not weak, you know. I'm just trash..." Ichimatsu mumbled.
Choromatsu didn't say a word. He knew Ichimatsu would most likely grow very angry if he told him what he had just heard.
"So, where is your potential job at?" he asked.
"Tch...the Cat Cafe..." Ichimatsu mumbled so quietly it was barely audible.
"Really?" Choromatsu nearly laughed, but held it in. "I'm glad, Ichimatsu. I hope you enjoy it. I really do..."
"Liar," Ichimatsu spat.
"I'm not lying, Ichimatsu. I'm being honest with you. Everyone is." Choromatsu said.
"Oh sure..." Ichimatsu spat, "You just want to seem like the nice one here, don't you? Well, to be honest with you, I could care less..."
"Choromatsu! Ichimatsu!" Jyushimatsu laughed, standing on the ground below them. "I'm home!"
"I guess I'll go now..." Ichimatsu mumbled, standing up.
"Promise you won't do something harmful?" Choromatsu asked, grabbing onto Ichimatsu arm.
"No..." Ichimatsu mumbled, jerking away from his brother. "I don't make promises that can't be kept..."
