Comatose

At the hospital...

Ichimatsu lay in bed, alive, but in a very very deep sleep. Nobody knew when he would wake up, or if he even would. But it was better than being completely dead.

Jyushimatsu ran into the hospital, gasping for air as he still held tightly to the goodies and Harvey.

"I need to visit Ichimatsu!" Jyushimatsu begged at the front desk.

"He's in room 344 on the third floor, sir. And please, if there is an animal in that carrier, don't take it out of its carrier until you're in the room. I know you most likely won't, of course." the nurse replied, writing something down on a sticky note.

"Thank you!" Jyushimatsu said, running away from the desk, making his way towards the familiar elevator. He had been here just awhile ago, and now here he was again.

He mashed the button to the elevator, and the door slid open slowly. There was nobody in the elevator, and that made Jyushimatsu slightly relieved.

When the elevator finally reached the third floor, the doors swung open, revealing the long, depressing hospital hallway.

The floors were completely white, and the walls were white. A young girl with blonde hair sat inns wheel chair, staring the second elevator next to the one Jyushimatsu had just walked out of.

"Excuse me, sir," the girl said. Her voice was sounded optimistic, but her pale skin tone and her wheelchair clearly stated that she wasn't doing well. "Do you know what floor the cafeteria is on? I'm supposed to meet my parents there today."

"I don't know," Jyushimatsu replied, walking away. He hated to be so abrupt with the ill girl, but he had to see Ichimatsu. He had to know he was okay.

Jyushimatsu continued to walk down the long hallway, looking at all the room doors, trying to find room 344.

Jyushimatsu's heart was thudding when he finally stumbled across the right room. The door was completely closed, and he couldn't hear a doctor speaking.

"Are you a visitor?" a nurse asked who had just walked up behind Jyushimatsu.

"Yes," Jyushimatsu replied, his mouth in that same smile.

"I assume you want to see Ichimatsu Matsuno then, don't you?" the nurse asked.

Jyushimatsu nodded his head aggressively.

"Go right in then. But I'm warning you, he isn't himself at the moment," the nurse said, abruptly walking away.

Jyushimatsu pushed open the heavy hospital door, still holding onto the goodies and the cat carrier with Harvey in it.

"Nii-san," Jyushimatsu said quietly, "I've brought something for you!"

Ichimatsu didn't respond. He just lay in his white hospital bed, "sleeping".

Jyushimatsu walked up to his brother's bedside, set the things down by a chair, and sat down in the chair.

"Wake up, Ichimatsu nii-san! I have something to show you! You'll never guess what happened this morning! Kanola gave Harvey to us! She also gave me a bag of goodies just for you, nii-san," Jyushimatsu scooted closer to Ichimatsu, slightly whimpering.

"Nii-san? Can you hear me?" he whispered, grabbing Ichimatsu's hand. "Please wake up...please wake up!"

Jyushimatsu leaned over in the chair, unzipped the cat carrier, and pulled Harvey out.

"Look, Ichimatsu! It's Harvey!" Jyushimatsu exclaimed pitifully, putting Harvey on Ichimatsu's chest. "Harvey loves you, Ichimatsu and so do I!"

A few tears rolled down Jyushimatsu's cheeks, but he quickly wiped them away.

"You would want me to keep smiling, right nii-san?" Jyushimatsu asked as he watched Harvey curl up on Ichimatus's shoulder. "I promise I'll keep on smiling for you and Homura-chan, Ichimatsu...I-I..." Jyushimatsu stopped and burst into tears. "Please come back! Please! I don't want to lose you too! Nii-san! Wake up! Please wake up!"

Ichimatsu's room door was pushed open, and the doctor came inside, followed by two nurses.

The doctor looked Jyushimatsu in the eye and rest his hand on his shoulder.

"Your brother is in a comatose state right now. I'm terribly sorry, but there is nothing we can possibly do to bring him back. All that we can do is make sure, that when he does come back, that he won't die. We have to take extreme care of him for now until he wake up. That is, if he ever wakes up." the doctor said.

Jyushimatsu stared at Ichimatsu. Just looking at his brother made him want to cry harder and harder. But Jyushimatsu managed to stop crying. He had to stay strong.

"Thank you, doctor," Jyushimatsu said, putting Harvey bag in the cat carrier. He picked up the baked goodies and Harvey, giving Ichimatsu one last look before he left the room.

As Jyushimatsu walked down the hallway, he saw that same girl again, only this time, she was being pushed towards what must have been her own room.

"Sir, have you been crying?" she asked, making her nurse stop for a moment so she could speak.

Jyushimatsu stopped walking, but didn't say anything.

"It's okay to cry. I know how it feels. I'm sure whoever you just visited is thankful you care so much. Never forget who you are though. I don't know who you are, but I know whoever you just visited does. Keep doing what makes them the happiest. By being yourself, you might just make them happy again," the girl said, then kindly asked her nurse to keep moving on.

"I will..." Jyushimatsu whispered, walking back towards the elevator. "I will, Ichimatsu..."
