Ace and Eva oneshot

Yeyehehehehehehehegeyehheye

A/N

I just wanna say I'm sorry everyone

Ace sat there on the couch with his legs crossed and a pillow laying on top of them. He was writing down on a blueprint, brain-storming ideas. While he was writing, Eva was cooking. She was listening to a tutorial on YouTube, following the steps in order and smiling at herself. Since the couch was facing right across the kitchen and the kitchen counter was open for Eva to be seen, Ace would watch her and fall deeper in love with her. He loved it when she smiled because she was working hard and being proud of herself. Just seeing her smile made his day.

Ace was starting to daze away from his own work and just watching her. He may look like a creep but it was worth seeing her being so happy. Eva noticed him staring, smiling even wider as Ace was caught in the act and blushed intensely, waving at her and smiling back.

As Eva continued with her work, she grabbed a tomato sauce can, struggling to open it. She put in her determination to open it but failed to actually open it. Ace noticed and got up. He walked up to her. "May I?"

"Of course," she chuckled, handing him the can. He laughed. "I'm pretty sure you forgot that can openers exist, right?" He said as he started searching for a can opener. Once he found one and opened the can, Eva slapped herself in the forehead. "I am so sorry, my brain really can't function sometimes."

"Oh please, you're the smartest person I know," he smirked, leaning against the counter. He watched her hands as they worked on the food. Eva rolled her eyes, chuckling. "And as the smartest person you know, I find that to be false."

           "That clearly contradicts your-"
Ace was cut off with his mouth being stuffed with a quesadilla that Eva found easy to cook. Ace bit onto it, smiling widely and taking it in. "This tastes amazing!"

"Thanks, it's the only thing I can really cook by myself," she replied, blushing from the compliment. Ace scoffed. "Pleaseeee, I can barely cook instant noodles!"

They both laughed softly. They enjoyed each other's company. Luckily, it was their day off from Dr. Dreadlocker's torture. It was the only day they could truly relax and be happy by being with each other. But usually seeing each other once a day could make them happy for as long as they can.

They sat at the couch, enjoying the meal laying on the coffee table in front of them. The news channel was on the TV, stating how a mysterious rebel saved the day again by stopping a midnight robbery. Ace smiled, happy to know he helped. Eva just looked at him, admiring his pride for the things he does to help.

Eventually, they decided to watch a movie. A movie they absolutely adored. Wall-E. People would say that that movie was the slowest of Pixar's, but they found it to be absolutely perfect, for them to be specific. They had a bowl of popcorn, laying between them to set a good set of space.

"They're just so sweet," Eva sighed, falling in love with the movie again. Ace nodded in agreement, watching as Wall-E and Eve spend time together in the giant spaceship. "You know, Eve reminds me of you, Eva," he looked at her, smirking.

Eva rolled her eyes, but she found herself smiling and blushing slightly. "Veerrrrryyy funny," thinking of how much of a coincidence Eve and Eva had a very similar name.

Somehow, they found themselves to be in an awkward situation. Eva had a question she wanted to ask him so badly, but she was afraid that it might ruin their trust, their friendship. Ace felt like an absolute idiot, like he had just embarrassed himself in front of an entire crowd. But the crowd was just an entire mob of  disappointed Eva's. But he could see the frustration in Eva's eyes. He took a deep breath and turned to her. "Alright, what's on your mind?" He turned his whole body to her.

Eva sweated, she froze and felt like this might be just the moment that is gonna ruin everything. She felt her skin heating up, her lungs failing to breathe. But she trusted him, she loves him. "Ace, I've always wanted to ask you... what's the deal with you and Katherine?"

Ace was suddenly struck with this imaginary knife of pain in his chest. Just when he thought he could get away from hearing that name ever again.

Ace looked down, his smile immediately transforming into a frown. He looked away, feeling so guilty just thinking of what Eva was guessing his answer to be for that question. She was probably scared, anxious and painfully curious to finally know the answer. He looked back at her, seeing the pain in her eyes. He tried smiling warmly, but obviously with a hint of trauma. "Katherine is my ex. We met in a bar. Eventually we got drunk and... ended up at her place. I woke up, thinking that maybe we had something there. I thought we shared something lovely. But turns out that I just wasn't enough for her yet she continued to be in a relationship with me."

"You're more than enough," Eva added, looking away for a moment before looking back into his eyes. Ace struggled to keel himself from crying, and so was Eva. She smiled softly, she brushed away a strand of hair behind her hair. "For me, anyway."

"You too," he replied, smiling and suddenly crying. Eva looked at him, reaching for his hand and squeezing it firmly. "Oh please, I doubt that."

"Shut up, you're amazing. You're beautiful and so intelligent. Every night I think if I could ever be good enough for you, if you would ever love me," he held her cheek, stroking it gently with his thumb. Eva held his hand and kissed his palm softly, "As I said, you're more than enough. You always find a way to make me happy. You're almost perfect-"

"Almost?" Ace chuckled, resulting to Eva laughing. Out of nowhere, their lips met. Their eyes were closed, and their bodies moved closer.

Ace pushed her hair behind her ear, stroking her cheek lightly and wrapping his free arm around her waist and pulling her even closer.

Eva stroked his hair with one hand, the other wrapping around his neck and tugging slightly at his collar.

They kissed for a couple of seconds before pulling away, immediately feeling like complete idiots. But they continued to sit there, not moving a single muscle.

Just then, Ace's phone rang. They ignored it for a moment, but just as it got annoying, Ace tried breaking up the tension.

"Um, you don't mind if I..?" He asked quietly, then Eva jolted with realization and quickly removed her arms from around him. She apologized softly.

Ace kindly accepted her apology and got up from the couch, grabbing his phone and walking slightly away from her just as he answered the phone.

Eva watched, only seeing his back when he was facing away from her. She was worried, anxious even. She heard these few words from Ace's conversation: over, past and second chance. Eva felt her heart racing at the speed of sound. She felt like she knew where this was headed.

Ace gripped onto his phone tightly, almost having a tantrum and throwing his phone away. But he can't help but feel guilty and hope. He stared at the floor as he listened to the person on the phone, aching from the words he was hearing.

Ace sighed, the conversation ending as he turned back to Eva. He looked down at her with a sad look in his eyes. He felt like millions of knives were stabbing him in the back. Eva felt no different when she knew the look in his eyes.

           "Eva, I-"
"Go," she said, standing up with a smile on her face.

"Besides, I'll be okay here. I get to relax and finish the movie anyway!" She laughed frantically. Ace knew Eva too much, but he didn't wanna hurt her longer by staying and being by her side.

Ace couldn't find the right words, so he coldly grabbed his coat and headed for the door. He froze for a moment. He looked back at her with a concerning smile.

Eva thought that as long as she kept his smile and his eyes in her life, she'd be satisfied for as long as she can live. (A/N: cough cough Angelica/Hamilton reference couch) She smiled back and gave him a thumbs up. "Have fun, Ace-y, boy."

"Don't forget to save me some popcorn, then," Ace chuckled, waving to her as he opened the door and started heading out.

Eva stood there soullessly. Just as she heard the door close, she cried softly and sat on the couch with her body crawled up into a ball.
