31. Love
Kun walked Yangyang into his kitchen and pulled out a stool at the bench for him to sit, “I’ll just get my first aid kit.” He said and hurried off down the hallway.
Yangyang sat down and rubbed his eyes, taking long deep breaths to steady his breathing. He finally felt like he could breathe now that he was away from Xiao Jun and Sicheng, and he began to relax his tense body.
Kun came back carrying a large black box and a small green tin. He set both down on the bench and pulled a stool over to sit down in front of Yangyang. He gently swivelled Yangyang’s stool around to face him and grabbed the green first aid tin.
“I hope this doesn’t hurt too much.” He said, dabbing a disinfecting wipe over Yangyang’s arm, ever so gently trying to wipe away the blood and bits of gravel.
Yangyang winced as a hot sting spread up his arm but he bore through the pain, “It’s fine.”
Kun glanced up at him and smiled gently, then a frown settled on his face as he focused on tending to Yangyang’s wound. He looked preoccupied with his thoughts, and Yangyang knew he was probably worrying about him. He hated to see Kun upset, but he was also so grateful that he had come to his rescue. He finally felt safe being alone with Kun in his warm, cosy apartment.
“Those men aren’t going to bother you anymore, okay?” Kun spoke up while he cleaned Yangyang’s wound, “I’ll make sure of that.”
“Thank you.”
Kun looked up once again, his eyes meeting Yangyang’s, and Yangyang gave him an appreciative smile, “I mean it. I don’t know what I would’ve done, or what would’ve happened if you hadn’t have come for me.”
“I’m just glad you’re safe.” Kun replied.
He placed a large rectangular band aid on Yangyang’s arm and then wound a bandage around it, completely covering his wound. He stood and held out his hands for Yangyang to take and pulled him up from the stool. He wrapped his arms around him and let out a long breath.
Yangyang rested his head against his chest and wrapped his arms around his back, closing his eyes. Right now they didn’t need to share spoken words, they only needed each other’s touch, each other’s warmth to know that everything was okay.
“Would you like your gift now?’ Kun asked, pulling back from their embrace to smile warmly at him.
“Yes!” A smile lit up Yangyang’s face, but then he remembered about the desserts and his happiness dampened.
Kun noticed and stroked a finger along his cheek, “What’s the matter?”
“Well, I bought some desserts to share with you but I dropped them when I was running away from Sicheng. I’m sorry. I didn’t even take a photo of them…” He replied, letting out a deflated sign. He had been so excited to see the look on Kun’s face but now that was never going to happen.
“Don’t be sad,” Kun responded, “It’s wonderfully thoughtful of you to get me something. It makes me happy just knowing that you did.”
Yangyang looked up at him and Kun’s warm smile spread butterflies through his chest, “I’ll get some more for you, I promise.”
Kun’s smile grew, “That sounds wonderful. Now, for your gift.”
He took Yangyang’s hand and picked up the large black box from the bench and they walked over to sit on the couch. Bright sunlight poured in through the large windows, instantly warming Yangyang’s skin as he shuffled around on the couch to face Kun.
“Here.” Kun placed the box on his lap, “I hope you like it.”
Yangyang grinned and stared down at the box. It was large, about A3 size and deep, but it was light. He slowly lifted the lid and his eyes widened.
Folded snug inside was a purple hoodie with the distinctive Gucci logo printed across the front. He ran his fingers over the fabric, admiring its bold colouring and softness.
“Wow!” He breathed.
He’d dreamed of owning a Gucci hoodie, but he knew just how much they cost and therefore they had always been simply unattainable for him. Yet now he had his very own, and what made it even more special was that Kun had gifted it to him.
He picked it up, lifting it up in front of him to gaze at it in awe, “Wow, you got me a—wow!” Words failing him as he grinned ear-to-ear.
“I thought you’d like it.” Kun chuckled, ”Put it on, I want to see how good it looks on you.”
Yangyang stood, slipped it over his head and snuggled his arms into it. It fit perfectly.
“How do I look?” He asked, spinning around on one foot.
“Very handsome, it suits you so well.”
Yangyang grinned and stuffed his hands into the front pocket. That’s when he felt something, his fingers closing around something small and soft. He pulled it out and stared at it, his eyebrows raised. It was a little jewellery bag, turquoise velvet with silver drawstrings. He flipped it over in his hands and noticed a distinctive silver logo with a capital ‘T’ printed over an ampersands and ‘CO’.
That’s the Tiffany & Co. logo! His eyes flicked up to Kun, who silently watched him with a small smile.
“What’s this?” Yangyang asked, dumbfounded.
“Open it.”
Yangyang looked back down to the jewellery bag and his heart thumped in his chest. Could it be…? He loosened the drawstrings and slipped his hand inside the bag. His fingers met with something smooth and cold: a chain. He gently pulled it out and his eyes were instantly drawn to a silver ring.
It was a simple silver band which glistened brightly, catching the sunlight as it hung from the delicate necklace chain. Yangyang caught it between his fingers as it swung and pulled it closer, noticing there was something on the inside of the band.
His heart skipped a beat as he read two words delicately etched into the ring in cursive script: forever yours. His hand flew up to cover his mouth.
Kun stood and walked to him, resting his hands on his shoulders, “Do you like it?”
Yangyang was speechless, he couldn’t take his eyes off the beautiful ring. But to him, it was so much more than just a ring. It was a bond; it was a promise; it was everything that he’d always wished for. That dream of having someone who truly cared for him and who would love him, no matter what.
“Yangyang,” Kun spoke and he looked up, transfixed to his warm brown eyes, “I want to take our relationship to the next level. I want to be with you, to protect you and make you happy.” He took the necklace from Yangyang’s hand and fastened it around his neck, placing his hand over the top of the ring as it rested against Yangyang’s chest. “This is my way of showing that I’ll always be here for you and that I’m committed to you.”
Kun’s words were so sweet and Yangyang’s heart swelled. Tears brimmed at the corners of his eyes and Kun cupped his face in his hands, wiping away his tears with his thumbs.
“Are those tears of joy?’ Kun asked softly.
Yangyang gave a slight nod. His heart was racing and so was his mind. He felt weightless, like all the love and happiness contained in the world had filled inside of him and his feet could leave the ground at any moment to float up into the sky like a helium balloon.
Lately, he had been struggling with his feelings; for Kun, for Ten, and for Xiao Jun, but now everything seemed so crystal clear. He knew how he felt and he needed Kun to know.
He placed his hands over Kun’s and said the only words which he felt could describe how he truly felt in that moment,
“I love you.”
A/N: I hope I did this chapter justice, did you like it? 😘
As I'm posting this, the afternoon sun is shining, the sky is a beautiful clear blue, and Chanyeol's SSFW is playing softly. It's finally getting to feel like Summer 💛
