DAY ELEVEN : " you look amazing . "

──────────── ✦ ────────────

CHARLIE SAT AT THE END OF THE STAIRCASE, CHECKING her watch. 7:30 in the evening. They're waiting for Sidney to come down. She noticed that it was taking a bit longer for Sidney to get ready. She stood up, turning around, the staircase still empty, no footsteps coming down. She started to get almost worried. She's always on time. Charlie doesn't want to go upstairs, she doesn't want to rush her. But if they didn't, they were going to be late. They just didn't want the place to close before they got there.

Charlie knew Sidney wanted to go skating. But, since it was California, skating rinks were pretty hard to find, but there were a ton of roller rinks, and they had decided on that. Charlie was very good at it, however, she heard that Sid didn't know how, so that's how they decided on the matter. They even invited Ronnie and Lex, who were probably already waiting for them. Or, if Charlie knew Ronnie pretty well, they're probably just as late as they were.

"Sidney?" Charlie called.

"I swear, I'm almost done!" Sidney called back, "five more minutes!"

Charlie couldn't help but to chuckle. "You've been saying that for the past half hour!"

"I mean it this time, I swear!"

Charlie wasn't going to distract her from what she was doing. Hopefully, Sidney meant what she said this time, and only needed five more minutes to get dressed. She sat at the stairs, gently twisting the ring on her finger as slightly tapped her feet onto the floor. Probably some drum best to one of her own songs that she wrote.

She finally heard the door open. She quickly turned her head around, finally standing up from the staircase. Since the staircase was so huge, Charlie had to practically back up to even see Sidney, who finally arrived at the end of the stairwell. She watched Sidney come down the steps, she's mesmerized. Sidney is the only thing that she could focus on.

Sid is definitely more festive than she is, wearing much more red and green. It complimented her very nicely, from the red lipstick to the green shoes. From the red and white polka dot blouse, to the emerald green necklace and earrings. So much that Charlie could barely keep her eyes off of her.

"How do I look?" Sid asked.

Charlie tried to find the words, she really did. There were so many words that she could use to describe Sidney at that moment. But the only words she could let out were, "you look amazing. You always do."

Sidney couldn't help but to smile. "You're too sweet, to me, Lottie," she said back to her, "by the way, you look amazing, too."

Charlie playfully scoffed. "Me? Nah, I'm not as festive looking as you are. That definitely gives you bonus points," she told her.

"You don't have to look festive to look good," Sidney chuckled, "you look like you. That's all that matters."

Charlie smiled. "I swear you always know what to say," she replied, taking her keys out of her pocket, "now come on. Before Lex throws a fit about us not being there. Which, they probably might anyway."

Sidney giggled. "Okay. Sorry I took so long, by the way."

"No, no! It's fine, I wasn't gonna rush you," Charlie responded, opening the front door for her.

They're finally on their way to the roller rink via Charlie's dusty blue Ford Fiesta. She cherished that car, though not as much as she cherished Sidney, who was sitting in the passenger side with her. Charlie made sure to have some of the mixtapes that Sid liked. Even though Sidney said it was okay that they listened to metal, Charlie also wanted to make her feel comfortable, and ended up putting on a Pixies album.

When Charlie found out that Sidney had never been roller skating, or didn't know how, she just knew it was the perfect idea. And it was a great alternative, since it barely snowed in California to begin with.

"I still can't believe you've never been roller skating before, it's so much fun!" Charlie told her.

"I just never really thought about doing it," Sidney told her, "well, until now."

"Well, you're gonna have a good time, I promise. I'll make sure you have a good time."

They reach the roller rink. It's pretty much packed. Charlie didn't expect anything less, especially since it was dark, and it was the weekend. This was definitely one of the local hangout spots. And with it being toward Christmas, well ... It was bound to be busy.

Charlie finally found a parking spot after some looking. Some lady was kind enough to let her have it. It wasn't too far of a walk, fortunately. Charlie felt Sidney tap her shoulder.

"Well, there's Ronnie and Lex," she told her.

Charlie looked out of the passenger window. She saw the two standing near the entrance. Ronnie smoking and Lex doing the equivalent to smoking, a cherry lollipop in their mouth.

"Yeah, let's hurry before I hear a mouthful from Lex," Charlie muttered, taking the keys out of the ignition.

The two girls finally got out of the car. They quickly walk over to the entrance. Ronnie finally threw his cigarette out, and Lex took the cherry lollipop out of theirs, putting one of their arms up.

"What took you guys so long?" Is the first thing that came out of Lex's mouth, "Ronnie got lost. Twice, and we still got here before you."

"Sorry, Lex, it was my fault," Sidney told them, "I took a while getting ready."

"And you couldn't hurry it up?"

"Lexie," Ronnie started, "they're here, now. That's all that matters. At least we still have hours to spare there."

"Yeah, Ronnie's right," Charlie told them, "now come on, let's go in and get our wristbands and skates."

Lex rolled their eyes, before throwing the lollipop stick on the ground. "Fine," they said back. They're the first one to turn around and walk inside. Ronnie held the door for both Charlie and Sidney, the two girls thanking him in the process of coming in.

The place was colorful. Charlie didn't expect it any less. It definitely wasn't her scene, nor Ronnie or Lex's. The three of them stood out like a sore thumb, and Sidney was the only one who could go unnoticed because she looked like she fit in with everyone else. The floor when they walked in had their typical squiggly, colorful patterns on it. The walls are checkerboard. And that was only the entranceway.

The four finally get their wristbands and their skates. Charlie got rollerblades. She always skated better in those than the regular skates. When Sidney finally put her skates on, she had to hold her hand. Not that she didn't mind. If anything, she wanted to help her learn.

"So, how do I do this?" Sidney asked.

"Oh, it's simple really," Charlie said, "It's kind of like walking, except better."

Sidney chuckled. "That doesn't tell me how to do it."

"I'm getting there," Charlie chuckled back, "you basically push one foot back for acceleration, then the other foot."

Sidney held onto Charlie's hands the whole time. "I dunno, Lottie──"

"Sid, you can do it. I got you, okay?" Charlie said back to her, "I can skate backwards, just ... Push forward, okay? Your right foot first, then your left."

Sid gave a nod, though it's uncertain. She did as told. She started with her right foot, pushing it back to accelerate on the wheels. Charlie skating backward in the same rhythm.

"There you go! Now the same thing with the left leg," the blonde said.

Sidney nodded. She started out slow. She started with her right leg, and then put her left leg in front. She repeats it over and over. "Like this?"

"Yeah! Yeah, exactly like that, keep goin'," Charlie replied back, "you're doin' great."

The two go at a steady pace. Charlie sees that Sidney is getting better by the moment. The movement isn't perfect, but it was good for a beginner. Though, Sidney was doing much better on her first time than she had. Charlie remembered how tough of a time she had on skates, even on rollerblades. It was a mess.

Charlie looked at her. "You're doin' better than I did my first go 'round," she told her, "think you wanna try without me?"

Sid looked in her direction. "This soon? I don't know," she replied, "I think I'll fall if I don't hold onto you."

"I think you'll be alright," Charlie said, "plus, there are bars everywhere. If you feel like you're gonna lose balance, hold onto one of those, yeah?"

"I guess," Sidney said back.

The two of them look on the opposite side of them. They see Lex and Ronnie and the skating rink. The two of them fell over due to Ronnie's unsteady balance. The girls decided to skate over, the small wall slightly separating them.

"How's it goin'?" Charlie asked, while Sidney was silently giggling.

"Goin' to shit," Lex said, "Ronnie can't balance to save his life."

"I'm trying, I promise I am. It's so hard," Ronnie complained, a frown his face.

"You'll get it, Ronnie, I know it," Sidney told him, "Lex, stop being so mean to him. Cut him some slack."

"This is them cutting me slack," Ronnie told her.

Lex pulled Ronnie up by the hand. "You're getting better, though," they said to Ronnie, "you managed to stay up longer than the last time."

"Really?" Ronnie smiled.

"Yes, really. Now c'mon. Let's try it again," they told him.

Sidney waved, and Charlie chuckled, saying, "good luck, you two."

The girls watched them skate off, Ronnie struggling and leaning onto Lex for support. Charlie then looked at Sidney.

"Wanna try to go around the rink?"

Sidney thought for a moment. "The rink? Hm, I dunno, I don't think I'm good enough for the rink, yet," she answered.

"Well, that's what the saying, practice makes perfect is for," Charlie replied back.

Sidney shrugged. "I guess you're right," she said.

Charlie made sure to grab her hand. She stepped over the silver plate that separated the rink from the other area. She carefully held onto Sidney as she crossed over.

"We can go as slow as you want," Charlie told her.

Sidney nodded. She remembered the steps that Charlie told her. The beat of the music helped with that a little bit. Charlie seemed to notice that, so she went along with it as well, just to make sure that Sidney wouldn't get hurt.

"See? You're doing a great job," Charlie said to her.

When Charlie turned, Sid turned with her. Turning was a bit difficult. It makes the brunette wobble a bit. Charlie helps her regain her balance when doing so.

But of course, there was this one guy. A total asshole. He passed them, bumping Sidney in the process, which made her lose her balance. Charlie tried to catch her, but she, too, fell over. Both of them are now on the floor of the rink.

Charlie looked up. The guy didn't even look back at them, though she could see the side profile smirking at them in amusement. "Asshole!" She shouted, before looking at Sidney, who had sat up, rubbing her back. Before Charlie could ask anything, Ronnie and Lex caught up to them.

"Shit, guys, are you okay?" Ronnie asked.

"I'm fine," Charlie answered, before she looked at Sidney, "Sid, are you alright?"

The brunette nodded. "Yeah, yeah, I'm alright. My back just hurts."

"I saw the guy that bumped into Sid, dude was a total asshole," Lex told them, "I'll be back."

Ronnie looked up at Lex. "No, Lexie," he said, "Last thing I want for us is to get kicked out."

"That dickhead literally ran into them," Lex said back.

"Ronnie's right, Lex. It won't do anything but get us kicked out," Charlie replied. She stood up, then helped Sidney get up from the floor.

Lex huffed. "Fine," they said back, "you sure you two are okay though?"

The two girls nod. They're finally up from the floor. Lex gave a nod back.

"Good," they replied back, "Ronnie and I are going to the food court area, wanna come with?"

Charlie looked at Sidney. "You want to?" She asked.

"I could use one of those soft baked pretzels," Sidney answered honestly.

"Cool, me too," Charlie replied back.

The group of four started skating to the food court area. Charlie felt Sidney link her arms with hers. Like she was making sure that she wouldn't fall this time. The blonde looked at her afterward.

"You havin' fun?" She asked.

"So much fun," Sidney answered, "even after that fall."

Charlie gave a small smile as the two of them rolled to the food court area. "Good," she said to her, "I'm glad."
