AS IF THINGS COULDN'T GET ANY WORSE . Not only had his car broke down, but he was also stuck with the very person that he didn't want to be stuck with. An abandoned log cabin down the road with no one in it but themselves. Nancy would rather eat snow than to help Jude push the car down the road to the nearest auto place. It had grown dark, the only thing that illuminated the place was the fire in the fireplace that Jude lit via a match.

Now, you're probably asking, "if they don't like each other, why were they together in the first place?" Nancy had a family christmas party that she desperately wanted to escape from. For some reason, Jude was the first person that she called. And Jude, who initially said no to picking her up, came to get her anyway.

Initially, the two of them were only supposed to sit in the truck, somewhere parked. But knowing Nancy, that wasn't going to happen, and she wanted to drive just to see some of the scenery. And now, his pickup was near the cabin with a dead battery with the choices of pushing it to the nearest auto place or looking around for help. And Nancy didn't want to do either.

Now, Nancy, in front of the fireplace, and Jude standing in the corner, lighting his cigarette with one of the only matches that he had left. He looked at the fireplace, Nancy looking at him with her nose scrunched up.

He took the cigarette from between his lips. "What?"

"You can't go outside to smoke that?" Nancy asked.

Jude blew the smoke from his lips. "You're not the only one who's freezin', princess," he sneered.

"The last thing I need is to smell like smoke," Nancy retorted back.

"Well, bad news, curly-fry," Jude said, the nickname made Nancy scrunch up her nose even more, "You probably already do."

Nancy rolled her eyes. She doesn't say anything else afterward, neither does Jude. He only took another drag from his cigarette. He doesn't bother walking over to the fireplace. All he wanted to do was get home, and he was pretty sure that stupid christmas party that Nancy wanted to escape from was over.

Cigarette between his fingers, he walked over to the door. Nancy looked back, watching him. "Um, where are you going?"

Jude turned around. "Going to look for someone to give me a boost, maybe?"

"And you're just gonna leave me here?" Nancy asked, almost offended.

"Well, you could just come with me," Jude told her, taking a third drag from his cigarette.

Nancy thought about it for a moment. Or, pretended to think about it for a moment. She turned her head away, looking at the fire that was currently in front of her. "Nope. Too cold," she said.

Jude shook his head in annoyance. "Well, you're just gonna be by yourself," he said, before putting the cigarette back in between his lips.

He left the cabin, snow now under his feet. He already regretted coming outside, but he had to find a solution to their current problem. He took a last drag from his cigarette before throwing the butt to the ground, and he walked toward his pickup truck.

He opened the door, he had one last spark of hope. He grabbed his car keys before putting it in the ignition. It doesn't start, it only does the usual clicking noise. Yeah, it was definitely a dead battery. Jude put his keys back in his pocket, running his hand through his hair.

"Shit ..." he muttered.

Twenty degrees outside and he was stuck. And he doubted that there was anyone nearby with any jumper cables. Still sitting inside the car, he heard the cabin door close. He looked up to see Nancy walking toward the truck.

"You find anyone yet?" Nancy asked.

"It's been five minutes, curly-fry," Jude replied back, "miss me that much?"

Nancy scoffed. "Please," she sneered, "as if."

"So you're just gonna keep following me from the cabin to outside?"

"Maybe."

Jude was getting pretty fed up. Between the cold, Nancy, and him wanting to go home, his patience was running a little thinner than usual. He didn't need this right now. Actually, that was the last thing he needed.

"What the hell's your deal? Are you trying to drive me nuts?" Judas asked.

Nancy was a bit taken aback by this. "How could you assume such a thing, Judas?"

"Because you're always driving me up the wall! And this is one of those tactics."

"It is not," Nancy said, "What's wrong with not wanting to be left alone?"

"You always want me to leave you alone!" Jude told her, "What's so different about today?"

Nancy was quiet for a moment. She knew that she couldn't sass her way out of this one. But for some reason, she tried to, even though she couldn't. "It's not different! I call, you pick up!"

Jude looked like he was about to lose his mind. He didn't want to escalate things any more. He got out of the car, only that didn't help. Nancy also got out of the car, following behind him.

"What the hell's wrong with you?"

"What the hell's wrong with you?" Jude asked back.

"I don't know! I'm not the one who's being batshit!" Nancy sneered.

Jude looked at her. That was a bold assumption from someone that believed they walked on higher ground than everyone else. Jude fully turned back around.

"I'm the one who's batshit?!"

"Yes!"

Jude ran his hands through his hair. "Oh my god," he growled in annoyance, "please, god, just shoot me already!"

Nancy walked passed Jude. "If I had my gun, I would've already done it," she grumbled, before she slammed the door to the cabin.

Jude huffed. He reached into his coat pocket, digging for the pack of cigarettes. He pulled out the white box and he opened it. It sadly revealed that he had smoked the last cigarette about ten minutes earlier.

"Shit," he mumbled, putting the empty box back in his pocket.

Not too long after, there's a light at the end of the tunnel. There's another car driving by. It actually slowed down. Jude didn't have to chase it down to her any help.

He looked at the window. A man with brown hair, though he's balding on top. He had on a beige fleece jacket. He's looking at Jude in confusion, and Jude is looking back at him. For the first time, he's a little nervous.

"Do you need some help there, young man?"

Jude was a little relieved, but he didn't get his hopes up yet. "Actually? Yeah," he answered, "Do you have any jumper cables or somethin' my battery went dead on me."

"You're in luck," the man said, "got a couple of 'em right here."

A sigh of relief escapes Jude's lips. "Thank god," he said back, "we've been trying to find someone to help us for a while."

The older man got out of his car, grabbing his jumper cables. He had parked pretty close to Jude's truck. The man slightly nods his head over in the direction of the cabin. "That friend over there?"

Jude turned his head. Nancy leaned right in front of the cabin door. He turned back, opening the hood to his vehicle. "Yeah, that friend."

"Not a girlfriend?" The man asked.

Jude scoffed. "Never in a million years," he answered.

"She will be," the man told him.

This makes Jude look up in bewilderment. "Not a chance."

The man shrugged. He connected one of the cables to his battery, passing the other end to Jude. "Trust me. You and your lady friend over there? You hate each other now, but you two will come around."

Jude connected the other end of the cable to his battery. He shook his head. He wasn't in love with Nancy, and vice versa. It was never going to happen. They were never going to be anything. And that was the way he wanted it.

"My wife and I used to be like that," the man explained, "we absolutely hated each other. Now, look at us. We've been married for twenty years."

To Jude, it was a surprise. And honestly he was confused. Why would you wanna marry someone that used to hate your absolute guts. And with Nancy ... He still hated her guts.

"Yeah, well," Jude said, "Not us."

There's a moment of silence. Jude looked at the cabin door. Nancy was looking back at him. It was like they were telepathically speaking to each other. She's tired, she's cold. Jude can see that. She didn't need to tell him that.

As much as Nancy got on his nerves, he couldn't deny the fact that he had a nice time. Well, up until getting stranded of course. To be away from his own stress for a couple of hours or so.

"So what brought you two out here anyway?" The man asked.

It snapped Jude out of his thoughts. "Just drove around. She ... wanted me to pick her up from a party she didn't wanna be at."

"And you picked her up?"

"Yeah," Jude answered.

"She called, so you came," the man said, "you're her knight in shining armor."

Jude shook her head. "Wouldn't say that."

"You say that, now," the man said with a chuckle, "Just wait."

He paused for a second, before looking at Jude's truck. "Try it now," he told him.

Jude almost immediately hopped into the truck. He didn't want to have that conversation anymore. He once again took his keys out of his coat pocket. He put his key in the ignition once again, hoping for a miracle. And then when he heard the engine, a sigh of relief escaped his lips.

He poked his head out of the car. "Thank you, sir," Jude said to him, as Nancy walked back next to him, "thank you, so much."

"Oh, it was no trouble," the man said back, "you and your lady friend keep yourselves warm, alright? There's supposed to be a snowstorm later tonight."

Jude didn't say anything else. Didn't bother to argue. Both him and Nancy watch as the car drives away. Jude managed to close the hood of the car. After that, he helped Nancy into the truck.

Not long after, Nancy pretty much did the unthinkable. She actually moved next to him, closer than she initially had been when the car first broke down. She leaned her head into Jude's shoulder.

Jude looked down at her, his eyes staring down in confusion. He's about to say something, but Nancy gets the first word out.

"I'm sorry for calling you batshit."

Jude playfully scoffed, shaking his head. "No you're not," he said back.

Nancy's lips curl into a smile. "You're right, I'm not."

Jude smiled back. That was Nancy. Unapologetic. Usually, that would annoy him a lot, but in a way ... He's learned to grow accustomed to it. And in some ways, he's actually grown to love it.

He put his hand on the wheel, looking down at her once again. "You still wanna shoot me?"

Nancy shook her head. "No," she answered, "Besides ... That man said to keep warm. So I'm doing just that."

Jude playfully rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah," he said back, "Don't enjoy it for too long, first things first, I'm taking you home."

"Actually," Nancy said back to him, "I don't think I wanna go home tonight. You think you can sneak me in?"

Jude gave a slight nod. He slowly wrapped his arm around her, his other hand on the wheel as he drove away from the cabin. "Yep, whatever you want, princess," he replied.
