Eye to Eye

The next day was uneventful. Loki, Thor, their parents and what seamed like the whole palace were all running around getting everything ready for the Ball. You tied to help out but after you lost control of your sponge skates you were using to clean the palace floors with, and tumbled down the stairs Loki and Thor agreed that you and Jane were their guests and guests shouldn't be cleaning. Which was a shame because you were having quite a lot of fun sliding around the palace with soapy sponges tied to your feet.
So you spent the rest of your day doing homework. Surprisingly you got almost all of it done in time for supper.
*
The next day was a lot of the same thing, minus the homework and sliding around the palace. You and Jane hung around the palace feeling useless while everyone else was getting everything ready.
*
The third day was when you felt like going crazy. Thor had nothing to do that day, neither did his mother, but Loki did. Loki was the best magic user in all of Asgard so of corse Odin needed his help.
You hung out with Frigga while Loki did whatever he was doing to get ready for the important guests.
"You know dear," Frigga told you as you sat in one of her big comfy chairs in her room looking absolutely bored out of your mind, "there are some really great trails around here. I'm sure you can go take out your horse for an hour or two and go explore some."
"Really?" You asked her trying not to sound to exited at the idea of leaving the palace for a few hours. "Do I have to take the guards too?" You asked her obviously not wanting to take them with you. Loki had insisted that you had guards with you at all time when he wasn't with you. And when I say all time I mean all times. Even when you had to go to the bathroom they will wait outside the door for you to finish. It was honestly getting super annoying.
She gave you a smirk and with a glow of her golden magic your floor length dress was changed into some comfortable riding clothes "just don't let my son know." She told you. You smiled at her, she was so much like Loki it was sometimes scary but fun all at the same time.
"Thanks." You told her giving her a hug before you jogged out the door. Thankfully your guards were on break, they trusted that Frigga's guards would suffice to protect you and the queen in her own room.
You happily jogged down the halls of the palace, servants and important court people giving you strange looks as you ran by. There wasn't a lot of girls on Asgard that wore pants, there also wasn't a lot of humans on Asgard, you just looked strange to them.
You ran out of the palace jogging into the stables to find Blaze, who was equally bored out of his mind. You jogged past tons of pretty horse and you had to keep telling yourself that you would be back to properly meet them all later. There wasn't a lot of time for you to ride and you wanted to spend as much time as you could in the saddle today.
"Blaze!" You greeted him as you ran up to his stall door. He came up to you with the most grumpiest expression on his face. "What?" You asked him.
He snorted still glaring at you.
"Oh really?" You asked him.
He continued to glare at you.
"I know you've been cooped up in here for three whole days," you told him, "but they wouldn't let me out of the castle."
He glared at you.
"Would a trail ride make you feel better?" You asked him.
He looked at you for a second then snorted his 'no.'
"A full out galloping at full speed trail ride?"
He gave you another look.
"And a bag full of apples?"
His ears perked up at that as he let out a happy whinny.
"That's what I thought." You told him happily opening the stall door. He walked out standing right by you waiting for you to jump up onto his back, which you did. Before you could even grab ahold of Blaze's necklace around his neck to keep your balance he trotted off in the direction of the stable doors too eager to get out of here.
You passed by a stable hand who looked shocked to see you there. "Are you Loki's Lady?" He asked you as Blaze trotted pass him.
       "Yes." You told him simply.
"Are you supposed to be out with no guards with you?" He called to you because Blaze just would not stop.
"No!" You called back, "just don't tell him!"
Blaze, who had had enough of this conversation, and really didn't want to be stopped from finally getting out of his stall, picked up the pace, going into a lope, leaving the poor stablehand behind. You really hoped he wouldn't tell Loki that you were going off without any guards.
*
You and Blaze, mostly Blaze, found the entrance to one of the riding trails by the palace. You were trotting down the trail, it being to windy and narrow for you to full out gallop down it yet.
"Can you just chill?" You asked Blaze pulling back in his necklace. He was extremely wound up, just wanting to take off at full speed. "You don't even know where we are going."
He snorted tossing his head around, throwing his little tantrum.
"Stop being such a baby." You said rolling your eyes at him. "It's only been three days." You loved Blaze with all your heart and you worked excellent with him on most days, but some days you and him just did not see eye to eye.  Today was one of those days.
The two of you finally reached a super long and wide field. Blaze tried to take off right away but you pulled back on his necklace telling him to stop. Blaze waved his head around and kept doing little tiny baby rears. Just like he was stomping his two front hooves on the ground, like a child who wasn't getting their way. "Can you just not?" You asked him as you spun him around in circles. "I don't want to die today."
Blaze just snorted as shook his head really wanting to run.
You positioned yourself more firmly on his back, gripping onto him with your thighs and making sure you were perfectly centered. "Let's go." You told him reaching up to grab him mane.
Blaze reared, jumping forward taking off at a full gallop down the field.
You steadied your breathing, getting a feel for your horse as he galloped down the field. "Your taking this so serious." You told him, indicating to his pin backed ears.
     Blaze just continued to gallop.
As the two of you went along you relaxed into the gallop, enjoying yourself and just generally having a good time.
*
You and Blaze found a lot of new animals you had never seen before. One of them actually chased you and Blaze through the forest. You didn't know what it was called, all you knew is that it was huge, scaly, and had big antlers.
Fortunately Blaze was a lot faster than the creature chasing you so you lost it fairly quickly. It was a lot of fun being out of the palace and running through the woods with your horse. Blaze seemed to enjoy the day too. The two of you found a little lake that was fairly hidden by a grove of trees. It was the perfect place to camp out, or even just go hammocking. You loved to go hammocking with your friends back on Earth, it was always so much fun.
You and Blaze finally got back to the palace and just like you promised gave Blaze a whole bag of apples. He was extremely pleased with that. Then you headed in to go find Frigga.
*
Once you found her she sent you to your room to go get cleaned. You were quite dirty so you complied. After you got ready for the day... again, you hung out with Frigga until right before supper when Loki was supposed to come pick you up. He didn't. Instead there was a letter that appeared next to Loki's mother in a glow of Loki's green magic. Frigga picked up the letter and sighed.
"What is it?" You asked her curiously. You wanted to know why Loki wasn't here and why he sent a letter. Maybe he had more work to do than he originally thought? Or maybe there was an accident?
"Loki wants me to keep an eye on you a little longer dear." Frigga told you with care and love in her voice, but there was something else there... almost like she was annoyed. She was the queen after all, baby sitting a little Midgardian probably wasn't her favorite thing to do. Especially if that Midgardian was getting a little stir crazy. You didn't want to be a nuisance to the queen but there was one thought you couldn't get out of your head. What if there was trouble? What if Loki was in trouble?
If that was the case you had to help him.
"Is there anything wrong?" You asked the queen with slight urgency in your voice. If there was trouble you had to help out.
The queen chuckled at you, "nothing you can help with child." She told you with kindness, "it's just..." Frigga paused looking for the right words to say as you waited patiently. "Loki and his father have never seen see eye to eye." She told you.
That was an understatement. Loki absolutely hated his father. He hated that he was taken away as a baby like some sort of prize Odin won for winning the war against the Frost Giants. He hated that he was lied to about what he was, and was raised to hate his own species. He hated that his father used him as a pawn for his own personal needs. And he hated that no matter what he did his father would never see him as his own son. Never see him as an equal to Thor. He hated Odin so much that he went by Loki Lauferyson not Loki Odinson. Last names are important, even on Earth. It tells people who you are, what your values are and who raised you. What ever you did reflected back onto your family, and vice versa. Loki changing his family name from Odinson to Lauferyson was him trying to change who he was and break the connection he had to Odin.
"His father must have gotten him in one of his dangerous moods again." She told you like this was a regular occurrence, though you could tell she was saddened by it. "He doesn't trust himself not to hurt you in his current state of mind. He just need to collect himself before he can trust himself with anyone's safety around him." Frigga told you trying to reassure you nothing was wrong.
You thought over Frigga's words but it didn't feel right to just leave Loki alone when he was like this. When you first met him he looked so alone and lost. He felt like no one cared for him, like it was him against the world. It took you weeks to get him to sit and talk with you, and it took months to make him see that he was not alone in the universe. That he was loved.
You were not going to let Loki sit and wallow in his  poisonous mind. He was going to undo all the hard work you put in making see that he was valuable. That people cared for him, and that he had skills and talents to offer to make the universe a better place.
Frigga said something... she said Loki needed to collect himself. Collection is control, just like how you collect a horse up so you can control every part of its body. That's not what Loki needed to do. He had been collecting himself up his whole life. Controlling himself and his magic to not hurt people. Loki was powerful, so powerful in fact that if he didn't burn his magic energy out throughout the day it would build up and cause destruction. The last thing he needed to do right now was try and control his power and anger by covering it up.
"Or maybe..." you said mostly to yourself. Frigga gave you a confused look before you jumped up off the couch you were sitting on. "I have an idea!" You announced before running out of the room to go find Thor.
