Today was the day of the grand ball and as a single women I was forced to attend, like my life wasn't bad enough now King Odin is trying to find his son, Loki, a wife.

I got up and immediately knew I was going to be late so I used my magic, which no one knew about, to do up my hair and put on my make up. I stared at my dress hanging in my closet, my mother had made it for me and as beautiful as it was, I did not want to wear it as the dress was green, the colours of the prince, its like I was already married to him, not that I ever wanted to be.

I left my house, following the parade of women all in green walking into the palace.

I walked into the ball room and saw people laughing, dancing and generally having a good time, I was however surprised to see Sif at this party.

"Sif? What in the 9 realms are you doing here?" I asked

"I could ask the same of you Y/N"

"I'm single so of course I just had to come" I said sarcastically.

"You look ravishing Y/N" stated Fandral taking my hand and kissing the top of it

"For the millionth time Fandral, I'm not interested, but thank you"

"Y/N! it's good to see you" said Thor joining the conversation

"And you Thor"

"My brother has been asking about you"

"Her?!" Exclaimed Fandral

I looked at him with a hurt but still sarcastic face.

"Why?" I asked Thor

"He says you look beautiful"

"Then why doesn't he tell me that himself?"

"Well...he..."

"He never said anything, did he? Your trying to set him up"

"Please Lady Y/N I know for a fact he likes you"

"Loki doesn't even remember my name Thor"

"Hello Y/N" said a voice from behind me. I turned around to see Loki standing there.

"Prince Loki, good to see you" I said bowing slightly.

"And you, care to dance?" He asked with such confidence that I could not refuse.

"I would love too" I said taking his hand as he led me to the dance floor.

The music started and we danced as gracefully as anyone.

"Still astonished I know your name?" He remarked

"You heard that?"

He nodded

"Thor was trying to set us up"

"Ahh of course he was, just because he's happy with his Midgardian he thinks everyone should be happy too"

"Everyone deserves to be happy"

"Are you certain about that?" He asked with such sadness in his voice.

"Yes, I am, even you deserve happiness My lord"

"Loki is fine"

We danced until the song was over and then clapped when the music ended. Suddenly there was an explosion from outside the ball room doors.

Masked assailants entered the room and immobilised everyone, even the King and Queen. Although Loki and I were unaffected.

"Now, good people of Asgard, its time for a little wake up call" said the leader

"Leave this palace now!" Shouted Loki walking up to them while still keeping a safe distance.

"You must posses magic otherwise you would be frozen like everyone else"

"You heard him, leave, Now" I said walking up beside Loki

"Well well two sorcerers, must be my lucky day"

Loki looked at me surprised, nobody knew of my magical gifts that's how I liked it.

"Stand aside" ordered the man

"No" said Loki

"And you...Princess?" He said pointing his sword at me

"I'm not going anywhere"

"Suit yourself"

A fight between the assailants and Loki and I ensued, half way through knocking these guys on their asses Loki and I were back to back.

"So you have magic?" He asked

"Now, your asking me this now?"

"Bad timing?"

"The worst" I said throwing a ball of magic knocking one of guys out.

"Your right, another time"

We fought off the rest of the men, when we knocked out the leader, who was the one holding the spell up, everyone was unfrozen.

"What happened?" Questioned Odin as he walked up to us.

Loki explained everything and the party ended, everyone slowly left the hall and headed home. I stayed until the end so I could have a word with Loki.

I sat next to him on the steps.

"Are you alright?" I asked

"Perfect, are you...your bleeding" he exclaimed looking at my arm.

"Yeah, one of the swords sliced me, no problem"

Loki stood up and held out his hand, I took it and he led me away.

We entered what looked like a healers room. The healer came up to me and told me to sit on the table.

The healer was fixing me up when Odin and Frigga walked in.

"Thank you, for all that you did Y/N" said Frigga

"It was no trouble, honestly"

"You saved our lives, all of Asgard will know what you did here tonight" exclaimed Odin before he left with Frigga, leaving Loki and I alone.

"How does your arm feel?" He said slowly and gently grazing my arm with his hand.

"Better, thank you"

"You know I never said, you look beautiful"

"Your brother said it for you" I said, we both laughed.

"Brother? Ahh there you are, the warriors three and I are going to the tavern, care to join us?" Askes Thor

"No"

"Very well then, goodnight Lady Y/N"

"Goodnight Thor" I said as he left.

"Why didn't you go with them?" I asked Loki

"I always feel like the odd one out with them"

"I get it, believe me"

"Does anyone else know?"

"Well now everyone does but before, no, no one did"

"That had to be hard keeping that secret"

"I learned to deal with it and it does cone in handy"

"That it does...May I walk you home Lady Y/N?"

"Are you certain?" I asked

"I am"

"Yes"

We left the palace, the whole way I was hoping and praying my mother was asleep, she got nervous around the royals, always has and she never really took a liking to Loki.

We arrived at my front door.
"This is me"

"Despite what happened, I had a lovely evening"

"So did I"

"May I see you again?" He asked

"If you can find me" I said smiling

"I accept that challenge" he said bowing to me and kissing the top of my hand.

"Goodnight Loki"

"Goodnight Lady Y/N" He said as he walked away.

I went inside to see my mother sitting at the dinning table waiting for me.

"So how was it?" she asked

"It was..."

"Don't bother I have already heard it all, how could you Y/N? You swore to me no one would find out"

"I didn't have a choice"

"I don't want to hear it, we will talk of this in the morning"

Y/N left he room and went to bed not looking forward to the next day.

The next day Y/n went to work as usual, she was a waitress at the tavern that Thor and his friends frequented.

She walked out with many mugs of mead and took them over to a table when Thor, the warriors three and Loki walked in.

Y/N walked through the back not wanting Loki to see her.

"You alright Y/N?" asked one of the other waitress's

"Why is Prince Loki here? He never comes here"

"He doesn't know you work here does he?" she asked

Y/N shook her head

"Own it, walk out there like it's no body's business but your own, it doesn't matter what he thinks" "If you want I'll cover his table"

"Thank you, your a good friend"

"Obviously" she said smiling

Y/N took a deep breath, put on a fake smile and went out and did her job.

She served a few tables until she was on bar duty, her worst nightmare became real, Loki approached the bar.

"I would say I've been successful" said Loki

Y/N turned around to see Loki staring at her.

"It would seem so" she said not even looking at him.

"Is something wrong?" he asked

"Nope"

"Have I overstepped?" he asked

"No, its nothing, its not you, I swear"

"Then what?"

Y/N sighed and turned away. "I just didn't want you to know I work here"

"Why in the nine realms not?"

"Because then you would know that I am just an ordinary girl without a penny to her name"

"I don't care about that, I never have. My father thinks I should marry a royal, but I want to marry someone because I love them, even if they don't have a title"

Y/N turned round and looked at him, the look on his face seemed sincere but Y/N was a pessimist, always was.

"Your just saying that"

"I'm not and besides you are no longer just an ordinary girl, at least not to me"

"I am no one"

"You are important to someone, you are important to me" he said taking her hand as she wiped the bar.

Y/N looked at him with her hair covering he face, he reached up and put the stray hairs behind her ear, she smiled.

"Brother, having fun?" asked Thor coming over and sitting next to Loki.

"Its not...horrible" he said looking at Y/N with his signature smirk.

"Lady Y/N another round if you please"

Y/N started pouring six drinks for the group.

Loki went back and sat at the table with Sif and the warriors three.

"My brother talked about you all day, I believe he wishes to court you Lady Y/N"

"If he wishes to, he need only ask"

Thor went back to his friends with the drinks and they seemed to be having a good time.

When Y/N's shift was over she walked out of the Tavern and was startled by who she saw.

"Loki? What are you doing here? I thought you went home hours ago"

"I wanted to ask you something.....Would you allow me the honour of courting you?"

Y/N was stunned, she never thought Loki, a prince, would want to court a lowly commoner like her.

"Are you sure you wouldn't rather someone with a title?" asked Y/N

"Titles mean nothing to me"

"Then...yes"

Loki bowed and kissed the top of Y/N's hand and walked her home where her mother would no doubt be waiting for her, but she didn't care, she would happily suffer her wrath for even a minute with Loki.

Y/N saw her mother waiting for her at the doorway of their house and panicked.

"Oh no"

"What is it?"

"My mother, she can't see you"

"Why not?"

"She...doesn't really like you"

"Oh, well then may I see you tomorrow?"

"The big oak tree with the heart shaped hole, do you know it?"

"I do" said Loki with a smile, he had planted that tree when he was an infant.

"Meet me there at noon tomorrow"

"Until tomorrow Lady Y/N" said Loki as he kissed the top of her hand and snuck through the back alleys of the village heading back to the palace.

"Y/N L/N! Where have you been?" shouted her mother from the doorway.

"I was at work mother, you now that"

"Your shift ended thirty minutes ago, It doesn't take that long to walk back here"

"I took the scenic route"

"To bed with you young lady" said Y/N's mother as she walked inside.

Just before Y/N walked inside she saw him walk out of an alley and they waved to each other and then he walked away. She walked inside and went up to her room, not being able to sleep with excitement about meet a certain someone the next day.
