"I win"
Prompt from KeiraRobertson7: Can you do a one shot or something for 'meant to be' where the reader and Loki are just relaxing in bed and they get a call about the Westview anomaly but obviously they decline cause they're on their honeymoon. Maybe something like a log cabin in Iceland where they can see the Aurora Borealis and there's also a blue lagoon or something which is probably like a hot tub.
A/N: I stayed up writing this until 6am (yes, my sleep schedule is non-existent) because I loved the idea soo much. Thank you to the person who requested this, it made me smile<3 (the title has a double meaning, take that as you will).
...
"You cannot tell me that you're still cold."
"Some of us average normal body temperatures Loki. And we are in Iceland."
"You're wearing two hoodies and a blanket."
This is true. Although in your defence it is minus fifteen degrees outside. You tell Loki so.
"Are you really that cold?"
"Yes."
Loki sits down on the sofa next to you (he's wearing a t-shirt) and kicks his feet up on to the coffee table.
"Let me feel your hand."
Iceland had been Tony's idea. Of course he'd just so happened to own a gorgeous log cabin in the middle of nowhere for you and Loki to escape to for two weeks.
Away from the carnage which was the world trying to claw its way back from the Blip. Away from the awful stories and the worry and the pain.
Just wonderful contentment at having Loki back and all to yourself for two whole weeks. Long nights spent sat by the fire outside watching the Northern Lights, talking for hours. Lazy days spent in bed, or swimming in the hot spring next to the cabin that you had to yourselves.
It was perfect. Apart from the temperature.
"My hands always feel warm to you." you protest, wiggling one arm free of your blanket cocoon to offer your hand to Loki. He takes it and pulls a face at you.
"You're boiling."
"Yes, by your standards. I feel like my fingers are about to fall off." you complain, withdrawing your hand back into the blanket wrapped around you.
"I can tell the difference between you being cold and freezing. You're chilly at most." Loki tells you matter of factly, reaching for the TV remote and knocking into you with his shoulder playfully.
You retaliate by bumping your arm less than gently against his, and he instantly reaches back to pull at your blanket, trying to get it off of you.
"No!" you laugh, lurching towards him as he pulls the blanket off of you and grabbing him by the shoulders. Loki grins, dropping the remote and easily wrestling the blanket off of you, holding it above his head.
You dive for the blanket, reading his mind to correctly judge where he's going to move it next and successfully grabbing hold of it. Triumphantly, you fall backwards on to the sofa, still holding on to the blanket and consequently pulling Loki down with you.
"I win." you declare, your hand still fisted in the blanket, Loki's face inches above yours.
"In what world did you win that tug of war." Loki smiles.
"Uh, this one?" you tell him matter of factly, looking pointedly at the blanket in your hand.
"Who's on top?" Loki asks you.
"I don't see how that's a loss for me." you say, a smile working its way on to your face.
Loki's smile widens and he leans down to kiss you. You happily surrender your hold on the blanket in favour of wrapping your arms around the back of his neck, pulling him closer to you.
You're just about to make a bad joke about not being cold anymore when there's a loud buzzing noise from the coffee table. You both turn to look at your phone.
Who is it?
Tony.
Your heart sinks. Tony wouldn't be calling you unless something awful had happened.
Loki sits back and you reach for your phone, sitting up quickly and answering the call anxiously.
"Hello?"
"Hey kid. I'm not interrupting anything am I?" Tony asks you. It's good to hear his voice.
"Tony, no." you laugh, looking over at Loki who raises an eyebrow as though he disagrees.
"Good. Listen, I hate to call you like this but... something's happened." Tony tells you. Your mind instantly sets to work thinking of a million horrific possibilities.
Loki reaches for your arm. You're both thinking of the same person.
"Is Thor okay?" you ask quickly.
"Yes, Thor's fine, everyone's okay." Tony tells you. Loki visibly relaxes.
"It's Wanda." Tony continues?
"Wanda? Is she okay?" you ask. What a stupid question. She'd lost Vision only three weeks ago for her. For you that had happened over five years ago.
"Well, yes. But no." Tony sounds like he's struggling to find the words.
"What's going on?" you ask, putting him on speaker so that Loki can follow the conversation with more ease.
"She's created her own reality." Tony says. You and Loki just sit and stare at your phone balanced in your hand.
"She's what?" you ask in confusion.
Tony launches into a long explanation about a town called Westview which is now being held hostage, Vision's body being kept at S.W.O.R.D, and something about Wanda broadcasting a TV show called WandaVision.
Your head is spinning by the time he's finished.
"S.W.O.R.D. wanted to call you themselves, but luckily Darcy Lewis got in touch with us first." Tony tells you.
"Why did they want us?" you ask.
"You and Reindeer Games share the same sort of magic as her. They were hoping you'd cut your holiday short and come help out. I told them no, of course, but it felt wrong not letting you know. I'm sorry kid."
You look sideways at Loki. He shakes his head at you.
"Tony, I'll message you okay? I need to talk to Loki."
"Sure. But... just remember that you deserve a break, okay? Both of you." Tony tells you over the phone. You take a deep breath.
"Thanks Tony."
You say bye, and then he's gone. You don't need to speak aloud for Loki to know what you're thinking.
We have to go back.
We're not cutting this short.
We have to.
"No. We don't. We don't have to do anything." Loki tells you, reaching for your hands.
"But Wanda-"
"Sounds like she's doing fine. She can cope in her perfect reality that she's made for herself for another week, I think." Loki says.
You frown, your mind racing, your heart aching for Wanda. If you'd had the ability to have done what she's doing when you lost Loki, you would have. In a heartbeat.
Look at me.
Loki squeezes your hands.
"I don't know her all that well, but I think she would want us to stay here."
He's probably right. But that doesn't make you feel any less guilty.
"It's not our responsibility. Let S.W.O.R.D. do their job, and when we get back we can help out in whatever way we can. Okay?" Loki tells you. You nod reluctantly, shifting closer to him on the sofa.
He puts an arm around you, pressing a kiss to the top of your head.
Try not to worry.
I'm not worried. I have you.
