The Accident.

Warning: Dying Patton and a car accident.

***

Patton was walking home from his job at a local bakery when it happened. Since the walk to his home was short, he insisted on walking there and back when he had a shift. Between the small distance of the travel, there was an insanely busy road. Normally, he had no issues crossing this road since he left work at 2pm.

This day however, he had to clean up the store which meant he left 3 hours later at 5pm aka when most work days end. So the road was completely craweling with cars. Patton knew that his husband would have been at their small apartment by now, probably worried but didn't think to call him to just pick him up because he didn't want to bother the stressed Logan.

That choice ended up being the worst mistake of his life.

It was strange, Patton was normally home before him. Vacuuming the small living room and dining area with an apron from when he baked some cupcakes for when Logan got home. Everytime he heard the key twist in the lock, he dropped everything he was doing to run to the door to tackle him into a hug before Logan could even step in the door.

He knew Patton could've gone to the store or to catch up Roman and Virgil since they'd gotten back from their honeymoon about a week ago but he couldn't help but worry. Logan was just about to call him when he recieved a phone call from the local hospital service which he immediately picked up, fearing the worst.

"Hello, who is this?" A women on the other line who had a cliche receptionist type accent that Logan had only heard in movies asked. He sat on the couch as he responded as calmly as he could. "Logan Sanders." Logan could hear her typing something. What was this about? "Ok, someone who has you set as a medical contact was hit by a speeding car and we need you to come identify them."

The only people who had him set as a emergency contact were his dad, mum, a few old friends including Roman and Virgil and his currently missing husband, Patton. He swallowed nervously. "I will be there as fast as the speed limits will allow, miss." He hung up his phone. Logan got up from the couch and quickly pulled on his jacket. He ran out the door to his car.

He drove to the hospital as fast as he could, parking as close as possible and ran inside. He quickly regained his composure and walked to receptionist. Logan immediately got her attention. "Name and purpose?" From the voice, Logan was pretty sure this was the same ladie, then again maybe they just had the same accent. It was probably a job requirement.

"Logan Sanders. I was called to identify someone." She nodded, looking to the computer for the information she needed. Logan fidgeted with his hands, feeling like she was taking hours but it was really only a few seconds. "Ah, yes. Room 14 on level three, I recommend taking the lift." She pointed to where they were and Logan took her advice, walking to the elevator.

He didn't say thank you. (HE WAS BUT I MESSED UP)

Logan found the room he was looking  for. He opened the door to reveal a doctor standing by the patients side, almost censoring their face from view. As she heard the door open, she turned around. "You must be Logan." Logan nodded. The doctor gestured behind her, causing Logan to come further into the room. "This is the patient, can you tell me his name and how you know him please?"

She stepped out of the way and Logan felt sick at the sight. His chest was raising and falling extremely slow and his breaths were quick and shallow. His chest was constricted in such a way that looked impossible for a human. His face was bruised and there were bandages wrapped around his head. He was a sickly pale colour.

He didn't want to say it as if not saying would mean the sight in front of him was false. Eventually he craved and told the doctor what he knew. "Patton Sanders... my husband." The doctor came up behind him and rubbed comforting circles into his back. However Logan could barely feel though his shock. "I know this doesn't make it any less terrible but I am sorry."

Logan simply nodded at her concern. He kneeled down beside the grundy, looking up at the doctor with a question. "Do you know who hit him?" Doctor pursed her lips, trying to remember all the information she knew. It wasn't much but she hoped Logan would appreciate it nonetheless.

"It appears to be an accidental hit and run because they were speeding but it was caught on camera so the police are most likely trying to locate them now. Luckily the driver behind stopped his car just in time, pulled him off the road and put him in the safety postion before calling us." Logan nodded weakly, looking back at his husband.

Logan took Patton's hand in his. "I see. How is he anyway?" Patton's hand was cold and rough because of the cuts the layered his hand. It felt so unfamiliar, such a stark constrast to the warm and soft hands that Logan held for years. He held it tighter. "I'm afraid he is in a unstable condition and his heartbeat is irregular. He has a very low chance of survival, I'm sorry sir."

Logan felt like his heart stopped for a moment. What?
