It was a good half an hour before anyone even stopped to see if we needed a lift.

People are too scared to take random kids off the street now.

Daleun checked his watch every two minutes and glanced nervously behind us, his face stone cold.

How long would it take for the police to find us- if the police had been called at all? As I looked at Daleun, I reached the inescapable conclusion that at some point, he had run from the law before. That in his life, this kid had gone off the radar completely and survived.

It was nearly fifty minutes later when a yellow sports car screeched to a halt on the side of the road and rolled the windows down.

The gravel sprayed up from the dirt and added another layer of scum on top of the grass stains and mud all over my clothes.

"Need a lift," Daluen said bluntly leaning toward the car and for a moment I could feel the cold AC inside blow out onto my face.

"No lift here," The young man in sunglasses said from inside the car. He turned the key to drive off but Daleun grabbed the window and stopped him.

He reached into his pocket and tossed a rubber-banded bunch of Ulysses S. Grant onto the seat of the car.

The young man took off his sunglasses and revealed two greedy blue eyes.

"Where you'd get this?" The man marveled, "You rob a bank or something?"

I laughed expecting Dalaun to laugh too, but Daleuns face was stone cold and unchanged.

"Can you take us to an airport?" The Red Hoodie stated bluntly.

I froze. This was going too far, I had enough trouble getting into a stranger's back seat with some random kid I just met, let alone flying out of the country.

My brow furrowed and I raised a finger "Hold on one minute, I never agreed to-"

Before I could finish my sentence, Daleun had shoved me into the back seat of the car and nodded to the guy to start driving.

"Hey," I exclaimed under my breath with rising anger, "I never agreed to this!"

Daleun scoffed and looked out his window.

"Relax, you have a choice, you did say you wanted to come and well, this is where I'm going."

I grabbed his shoulder and tried to get him to face me, to talk this out, to be reasonable. But he shook me off with great ease and I was left to huff in my own corner of the car.

I suddenly realized something, what if I wasn't an accomplice to this kid, what if I was a risk. What if I had seen too much of his face and would be able to describe him to the police.

What if I was only there because he couldn't let me go anywhere else.

Fear paralyzed me as I realized I might be being kidnapped of my own free will.

Not knowing what to do, I shoved in my earbuds and tried to calm myself down.

Tried to shake that horrible sickening feeling that I had made a huge mistake.
