Coffee
Thomas' POV:
We brought home our baby boy today. Alex and I flew down to South Carolina a few days ago when Martha was getting close to her due date. We had a hotel room near the Laurens family's like... mansion. I mean, I thought my family was rich but damn. Apparently John isn't on great terms with his dad though, because he's staying in the hotel too.
Martha, Alex, and I were having trouble agreeing on a name until Alexander suggested Philip. The name suits him. He looks so much like John and Martha. I wasn't the one who wanted kids but I've only held him a few times and I'm already in love. I think Alex feels the same. There's been a lot of tears, most of which were not mine, but Alex and I set everything up before we left so we have less to stress about now. The spare bedroom is being transformed into a nursery for when Philip gets older but for now he's staying in our room.
He fell asleep on the way here, so Alex lies him down to nap for a while. While he's making sure Philip stays asleep I make coffee, because I'm falling asleep on my feet. I fill the biggest thermos I have, emptying the coffee maker, and chug a considerable amount of scalding hot coffee.
Alex comes back to the kitchen, snatching the thermos from my hands and drinking half my coffee. I snatch it back, shaking my head in exasperation. "I was drinking that," I sigh, taking another gulp.
"So was I," Alex retorts, wrapping his arms around me and dropping his head on my chest. "Thomas... we're parents."
The feeling I've had in my chest the last couple days intensifies. Anticipation, excitement, and a large amount of fear. I feel like I'm going to be the worst father ever. "In that case, I need a nap."
