Ozpin's Evaluation

"Team LJNT, step forward for your team evaluation."

The team all headed toward Professor Ozpin's office. There were two team evaluations, one near the end of each semester. As Lyra glanced outside, she could see that it was beginning to snow. Vale had switched pretty quickly from summer to winter, barely leaving any time for fall. Leaves were still on the trees! Lyra shook her head in disappointment, turning away from the window as they stepped into the elevator.

As they made their way to the office, the Headmaster opened the doors for them. He smiled upon seeing them.

"Ah, Team LJNT," Ozpin ushered for them to sit in his office, and he sunk into his black chair. "So, let's begin. I'd like to start off by saying that you all have performed incredibly well as a team."

"Thank you," Lyra smirked, her golden eyes dulled and devoid of life emotion. The other three remained silent. It was still weird for them to see Lyra acting so normal; after her episode back when they operated as LNJR, no one particularly knew how to feel around Lyra. Ozpin nodded.

"I have high hopes," Ozpin took a sip of coffee from his cup. "I have a good feeling about you all."

A beat passed.

"You look like you want to say something, Miss Torres," Ozpin placed his cup onto the table before folding his hands on his desk. "Feel free."

"Thank you. Headmaster Ozpin, I do not mean to disrespect your choices by asking, but..." Janelle frowned. "Why? We are only first year students. We are a team that did not even function properly in the beginning, yet you continue to pay us special attention...Forgive me, I have probably stepped out of boundaries with these questions."

"Don't worry. It's alright to ask, I'm not offended," Ozpin just chuckled. "But Miss Torres, the answer to your question is nothing special. I simply think that this team right here has great potential. Most of you are doing well in class, and all of you are exceptional in the battlefield. Despite the initial hiccup, your teamwork is good as well. That is why I have put so much faith in all of you. For first year students, every single one of you has been performing stupendously."

"Really? Do you think my parents would be proud?" Tanya asked excitedly. Ozpin nodded, a smile on his face. Tanya pumped her fist into the air. "Yes! I cant wait for them to hear!"

"Your parents are currently deployed at Atlas," Ozpin said. "Would you like me to tell them personally?"

"Would you really!?" Tanya jumped up and down excitedly. "Maybe they'll understand it more if it comes from you! That's a great idea! Yay!"

"It is my pleasure," Ozpin acknowledged with a smile. "As a team, you all cover each other's shortcomings. Here are a couple of your weaknesses, though. It is imperative you are all aware of these. While your teamwork within your ranks is good, it tends to fall apart when an outsider joins. You all must stay aware of your surroundings at all times. Second, Lyra and Nico's lack of dust can hurt your chances of killing a Grimm, as seen with the Aslan's slight weakness to fire. If you both had dust, perhaps the fight could have been shorter. Just something to ponder. Finally, you all must come to not only help, but to protect each other better. You should not be overly reliant on them saving you, but you should be confident they will save you if needed."

"I promise I'll be there when you need me!" Lyra promised with a wink. "...I can't change Midas, though. That was...a gift. I don't think they would have wanted it changed..."

"Just give it some thought."

"Thank you for the criticism," Janelle fought the urge to bow respectfully. "I acknowledge my shortcomings. I will rise to the challenge."

"Thanks, Professor Ozpin!" Tanya was practically jumping up and down from excitement. "We're the best team ever!"

"Do you have anything to say, Nico?" Ozpin smiled at Nico, who had been relatively quiet. Nico just shook her head no, and Ozpin nodded. "Very well then. Before you go, however, you should know that we still haven't extracted any information from those White Fang members. Be prepared for anything at any time.  Understood?"

"You got it," Lyra acknowledged.

"Good. Then you are all dismissed. Enjoy yourselves at the dance."

"Oh, I'm so excited for the dance!" Lyra exclaimed loudly as they left his office. Tanya was jittery, getting pumped just from Lyra mentioning it.

"Yes, yes, yes!" Tanya grinned as she bounced up and down impatiently. "I've never been to anything like this before! It'll be so, so, so fun, I can't wait! Grandpa Alm always said that he had a good time and told me this was one of his favorite times back in his time, or whatever! I can't wait!"

"I hope you both have fun," Janelle sighed. "I do not have time for such a trivial event, I need to be studying."

"NO! You have to come!" Tanya wailed, dropping to her knees in front of Janelle dramatically. "Please, please, please!!"

"Tanya, nothing is as important as my studies," Janelle frowned. It wasn't that she didn't want to go; she did. She had also never been to any event like this...but she knew she had to put her studies first. "I simply cannot go."

"B-But.." Tanya's face fell as she stopped her movement. Nico almost crashed into the taller girl, but managed to stop herself just in time as Tanya began to pout. "Does that mean you're going to go back to the dorm? For how long?"

"However long I require."

"Come on, Janelle! You have to come! ...Well, what about you Nico?" Lyra questioned as Tanya stood from the ground, a sad look on her face. "You're coming, right?"

"U-Uh, I w-wasn't p-planning to," Nico stuttered, and Tanya pretty much began to cry at that news. Lyra shook her head before crossing her arms.

"Oh, come on, Nico!" Lyra sighed loudly, an exasperated look on her face. The four of them got stares as they walked by, some of them looking at Lyra in awe, but most of them more confused by their dramatics. "You have to come!"

"B-But...w-what...if I just d-didn't?" Nico shrugged, her ears twitching slightly in annoyance. "I-It's n-not really...s-something I-I'd consider fun."

"But you have to come!" Lyra practically demanded with a determined look on her face. She was not giving up on this! "You too, Janelle! Your grades are fine. I'm going to burn your notes if you don't come, Janelle! It's just one night! Come on, have fun with us!"

"Do not even think about burning my notes," Janelle placed her hands on her hips nervously, horrified at the thought of her hard work being destroyed. "But what about the upcoming tests? I cannot slack off now."

"Please! Please, Janelle, come," Tanya begged, clasping her hands together in front of Janelle's face. "I want you to have fun with us!! Please come, please, please, please!"

"I am politely asking you to stop your incessant yapping," Janelle sighed before fixing the hem of her dress. "I...suppose I can take one night off. But if I fail the next test, you are all receiving an earful."

"Deal!" Lyra cheered before turning to her unconvinced partner. "Come on, Nico! You're the only one not coming. Don't you want to have fun with us?"

"W-We can h-have f-fun...in a p-place t-that's n-not so c-c-crowded," Nico replied. The thought of a dance didn't seem enticing to her at all. There was going to be a lot of people there, and she'd have to dance. Nico didn't dance. "B-B-Besides, I-I r-really don't h-have anything t-to wear."

"I haven't gone shopping yet!" Tanya popped up quickly, eager to dispute Nico's excuses so that the girl would go. "We can go together!"

"Um...the dance is in two days, you might want to work on that," Lyra reminded Tanya before turning to Nico. "C'mon, you have to come!"

"W-Why? I-I'd r-really rather j-just stay home," Nico tried her best to negotiate her way into staying as far away from the dance as possible. "D-Dances aren't m-my thing. N-None of it l-looks fun."

"Well, I can promise you that it is entirely fun!" Lyra pouted. "Come on, Nico. Do it for us?"

Nico sighed. She was about to decline once more when she caught a glimpse of Tanya's hopeful features, Janelle's expectant stare, and Lyra's eyes that were full of hope and insincerity. For them...?

"Ugh...F-Fine," Nico grumbled. Tanya jumped high in the air with excitement, ruffling Nico's hair with one hand while Lyra just grinned happily.

"Yes! Team LJNT is rolling out at the dance!" Tanya cheered ecstatically before sprinting ahead of them in an energetic burst. "I can't wait! We should learn a routine and everything!"

"Oh, trust me, you guys don't want that," Lyra chuckled. "Besides, I'm just happy you all are coming. We don't need to look the best with our dance moves...I'll show everyone up for us. Sound good? Good."

"I am actually looking forward to this," Janelle commented offhandedly. "I hope this is worth me losing one night of studying."

"It will be!" Lyra chirped, but Nico wasn't too sure.

She guessed all she could do was wait and see...
