9 - Vulnerable Times

- Lucy -

I abruptly shot my eyes open as someone shook my shoulder repeatedly. Beside me stood a woman, grinning an apologetic smile, "Excuse me ma'am? Is this your stop?" She asked sweetly. Groggily, I rubbed my eyes with my fists before squinting and noticing where I was.

"Yeah, thank you for waking me."

I stood up from my chair and left the train cart, stretching outside and inhaling the fresh air. Though the station brought back so many memories that it was almost suffocating. I just hope he gives me a chance to explain myself but knowing his temper, he may just slam the door in my face.

Hopefully Natsu and Luna are getting along fine back at the guild.

- Natsu -

"NATSU DRAGNEEL!" I gleamed a bright smile, laughing hysterically at Erza's face. She's been chasing me around the guild for the past ten minutes and it's still hilarious. Even Luna watched with amusement at the bar, giggling every now and then.

"You shouldn't have fallen asleep at the table!" I teased her.

"You dare draw on my face while I was asleep? You're dead meat!" She growled, swinging her sword around at me angrily, making me laugh even harder. But she just gave another growl in response.

"Aunt Erza?" Luna called out from the bar making both me and her stop in our tracks to listen.

"What is it?"

"Why don't you just throw your sword at him? Wouldn't it be faster?"

My whole face dropped to the floor hearing her say that. I carefully turned my head toward Erza to see what she was thinking but before I knew it, her sword went flying right past my face, barely missing it.

"Thank you Luna. This is why you're my favorite."

"What the hell Luna? Whose side are you on man!" I screamed as I wildly jumped over tables, crawled under chairs and pushed past the people who were in my way. I somewhat regret doing that to Erza but at the same time, when I see Luna smile and laugh — I'd do anything to see her like that everyday.

- Luna -

I laughed as I watched those two run around in circles, neither of them giving up one bit. But finally, Natsu tripped over his own foot and fell to the ground, giving Aunt Erza the chance to pounce on top of him and punch his face repeatedly.

So this is what a guild is like? Now I know what mom meant when she said that Fairy Tail is a loud place. But if it's like this everyday, then I wanna stay here forever.

"Hey Luna. You doing okay?" I turned my head and smiled widely before giving her a warm hug. "Aunt Juvia!" She chuckled and ruffled my hair, "Pretty loud in here huh?"

"Yeah but I don't mind. It's fun."

"Hm, then I think you'll fit right in."

"Right? Plus — I left a little surprise in the bathroom." I chuckled deviously under my breath. Aunt Juvia gave me a weird look and muttered, "What do you mean ...?"

- Juvia -

Before I could question her any further, there was a loud scream from one of the restrooms. Soon enough Wakaba came running out, his cigar still resting on his lip as he rubbed his behind with pain and tears slowly forming in the corner of his eyes.

"What's up Wakaba?" Macao dared to ask.

"Who the hell put thumb tacks on the toilet seat! Natsu, it was you wasn't it!" Wakaba shouted with anger, blowing smoke out from his lips. But Natsu groaned with pain, trying to crawl towards safety as Erza continued to beat him.

Though I looked over my shoulder at Luna who's face was turning red from trying to keep her laughter in. She even clasped her hands over her mouth but soon enough, she erupted into a train of giggles, practically crying out loud at how proud she was at her first prank.

"That was your doing?" I questioned.

"Pfft, that was great!" She laughed aloud, nodding over at me. But even so, I couldn't help but laugh along with her because — whether Lucy wants to admit it, Luna is meant to be here at Fairy Tail. She has the personality of Natsu, there's no doubt about it. I just hope Lucy sorts everything out soon before Luna gets hurt.

- Lucy -

I slowly opened the door, peaking my head inside to see who was around. Surprisingly, there was barely anyone here besides Orga and the other guys sitting at the bar drinking.

So I slipped in as quietly as possible and decided to say hi to them before heading upstairs. "Hey guys. Long time no see." I smiled brightly as I approached them.

They all were shocked and hollered at me to drink with them as well, "Yo! It's been awhile Lucy." Each of them greeted me and welcomed me back. I wasn't expecting them to be so nice towards me though.

"Come and drink with us. We could use another body." They invited me and even poured a glass but I shook my head and gestured towards the stairs. "I gotta take care of some stuff. Is — Is Sting here?" I dared to ask. Though they all looked at each other oddly before nodding.

"Just a fair warning, he's been really moody nowadays."

"Okay thanks guys. We'll hang out later for sure." I smiled before walking off and up the stairs. Though each step made me feel more and more anxious. I don't know what to expect right now.

As I wandered down the halls I could slowly feel my chest clench. I was so scared and worried but at the same time I couldn't help but reminisce about this place. I have so many good memories just flowing into my head. It almost felt like it was just yesterday that Luna was running down these halls screaming at Sting for no reason.

Though before I went to his room at the end of the hall, I decided to pay someone else a quick little visit as well. I lightly knocked on their door, hoping he was still up at this time. It was quiet on the other side for a few seconds before I heard shuffling towards the door. "What do you want now Sti —" he stopped mid sentence as his eyes met mine.

Slowly, his lip curled into a smile as he happily wrapped his arms around me, bringing me in for a warm hug. "Sorry it took so long for me to come see you."

"It's okay ... at least you're here now."

"How're you doing Rogue?" I muttered into his chest, gripping him a bit tighter. For such a calm guy, he does give the best and warmest hugs ever. Plus the way his face lights up when he sees me makes me smile.

"I'm feeling a lot better now that you're here. Wanna come in?"

"Yeah but not for too long. I'm here to see Sting." But he quickly shot me a weird look before gesturing me to come in. I looked around and chuckled lightly at the fact that everything still looks the same since I was last in here.

"So you came here to talk to Sting?"

"Yeah. I'm pretty sure you know what's been going on but —"

"No. I have no idea what's happening between you two."

I raised my eyebrow at him in curiosity and asked what he meant by that. Though he scratched his head out of annoyance and sighed heavily, "Sting has been out of it for awhile. Especially now, he has his ups and downs lately. But he never really talks about what happened."

"Not even with you?"

"He doesn't wanna talk about much in general with me anymore. It's his way of trying to cope with everything on his own."

I bit my lip anxiously and nodded in understanding. Since Sting hasn't told Rogue yet, I wonder if he's expecting me to say something. But I'm afraid if I do tell him, he'd look at me differently just like how Sting did.

"So what happened?" He questioned. Though I just stared at him for a few seconds, opening my mouth but too afraid to say anything.

"You can trust me Lucy. I'm here for the both of you."

"I know you are but .... promise me you won't turn on me when I tell you okay? I can't lose you too."

"Yeah I promise." Rogue encouraged me to continue as he sat next to me, listening to everything I said. Though I kept looking down and fiddling with my fingers as I explained exactly what went down between all of us. And, it wasn't helping at all when Rogue would narrow his eyes at me every now and then. Because of his poker face it was so hard to know what he was thinking about all this.

When I finished, I bit my lip and stared down at my lap with worry. I wasn't too sure what to say and I was too nervous for what he was about to say. Out of everyone, I always cared about Rogues opinion for some reason so right now I'm feeling the pressure.

I decided to glance up at him to see what he was doing but when I did, his narrow eyes pierced right through me. I almost felt like crying from that.

"Say something ..." I muttered. But before I could do anything else, I felt his hands push up against my shoulders and push me down onto the bed. He pinned me down below him and just stared at me with a straight face.

"So you told Sting all that ...?" His raspy voice brushed over me.

"Yeah ... he wasn't too happy about it ..."

"I'm sure he wasn't ... you know Lucy — have you ever thought about it vice versa?" But I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion and shook my head, "Well I can't really think when you're on top of me. What are you trying to prove anyways?"

"What would you do —" he trailed off, trailing his hand from my ear over to my cheek and stopping at my chin. "If I kissed you?" He murmured so quietly under his breath. His eyes were glowing as the moonlight shone brightly through the window and down onto us. I noticed the slight frown he had on his face and how he continued to stare at me oddly.

"Rogue .... I don't know what you're trying to prove right now ..."

He frowned even deeper and sighed, "Think of it vice versa."

"Think of what vice versa?"

But before he could say anything else, his bedroom door creaked as it slowly swung open. A tall figure stood in the doorway and stopped as they saw us laying on the bed. It definitely looked bad and was totally misleading.

"Rogue. What the fuck are you doing?"

Rogue's frown instantly turned into a wide grin as he tried to hold in his laughter. He let me go and sat up on the bed, looking over at him with amusement. "Jeez Sting, you ever heard of knocking?"

"Are you looking for a fight!" Sting barked, his eyes glowing with anger.

"Why are you getting so worked up this late at night?"

"Well what the hell were you two just doing!" Sting shouted, flailing his arms around in annoyance. But Rogue just sat back and watched with enjoyment, "Calm down. We were just talking."

"Who the hell just talks like that! I don't know what you're trying to do right now but you're pissing me off!"

"Well isn't that a firsttt~" Rogue sarcastically purred making Sting grit his teeth. Though his eyes slowly wandered over me and I could read them so easily —

"What are you doing here?" He asked.

"I .... wanted to come and talk to you."

"Don't you think we've talked enough?"

"No. We didn't talk. We shouted."

He sighed and glared at Rogue once more before gesturing for me to follow him outside. So I got up and trailed behind as we quietly walked back to his room. The silence started to grow awkward amongst us and it was definitely a bit weird to be walking beside him like this again.

When we got back to his room, he shut the door behind him and leaned up against it, staring at the ground in thought.

I wandered around the room, looking at everything and noticing he moved a lot of things around. It seemed a bit more empty. But I couldn't help but let out a soft giggle seeing the faint scribbles of crayon on the walls from when Luna was young.

"I never got around to scrubbing that off the wall." He spoke up from behind me. But I grinned sadly and shook my head, "Don't. I like it like this ...." I muttered, turning my head back at him.

"How is she?" He asked.

"She's doing great. Better than we imagined."

"That's good."

There was a long moment of silence after that. I just sat on the ground, staring down at my lap, wondering what I was really doing here. Was I really here to just talk? Is all this even worth it?

"I'm sorry."

My ears perked up as I glanced above me, meeting his eyes halfway. He was sincere about it this time. But I just nodded and gave a slight grin, "It's okay. It's been rough ..."

"No — the way I acted out was pretty bad on my part ... so again, I'm really sorry."

"It's fine. Let's just not talk about it ..." I shyly said, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear for comfort.

"Lucy ..."

"I'm serious Sting. I don't wanna talk about it." I said again, more sternly. So he sighed and sat down beside me, staring at the wall as well. We just sat there in silence, unsure of what to say. Though he quickly spoke up, "When can I see her?"

"I'm fine with you seeing her now. But we have to address the elephant in the room Sting."

"What? I said sorry already."

"That's not the point. We can't just argue and cover it up with an apology. We need to talk about it and understand things."

"Understand what? There's nothing to understand. Luna's fine and that's all that matters."

I furrowed my eyebrows in annoyance, "I know but you can't just act like nothing happened. Something happened and we haven't talked about it."

He rolled his eyes like a child and ran his fingers through his hair with frustration. "You wanna talk about it then let's talk about it."

"Okay, why did you shut me out? Why would you leave me at our most vulnerable time?"

But I just watched as he didn't hesitate to answer that. He said it so — calmly, like he believed it. No matter how many times I tell him what happened he continues on like this, "Because you kissed Natsu." It's something he convinced himself into believing.

- Luna -

I choked out a loud laugh seeing Natsu and Elfman jump around, preparing themselves for the big match.

"You're going down Dragneel! This is a mans game!"

"Shut up! Why don't we put it to the test!"

They both sat down in front of me, placing their elbows on the table top and gripping each other's hands. So I raised my hand up with a wide smile, "Ready — set — GO!" I shouted and watched as they both struggled to beat the other. Surprisingly, Natsu could keep up with Elfman despite their appearances.

"I could do this all day ..." Natsu groaned out.

"I'll eat you for breakfast Dragneel ...."

"I'll eat you for lunch!" He retorted back making me giggle. Jeez he was so bad at trash talking.

They continued to go at it for another ten minutes, none of them breaking a sweat. It was kinda scary to see what they were capable of. So I yawned and looked at Natsu, noticing the determined smirk he had on his face. Even though Elfman definitely has the muscle it was almost inspiring to see Natsu go up against him.

The longer I stay here the more I never want to leave. Sometimes I wonder what life was like here before I came along. I'm sure mom had the best adventures with Natsu at her side.

Though — sometimes I wonder why mom and Natsu are closer than everyone else here.
