12 - Ten Seconds

- Natsu -

"I'm serious!"

"Nu-uh! No way mom jumped out of a building on purpose!"

I nodded my head and continued my story, "This was years before you were born. When she first joined Fairy Tail, a bunch of idiots called Phantom Lord kidnapped her. So when she was at the very top of the building, she jumped out, knowing I would come and save her." I smiled, reminiscing about the good old days. Though Luna just giggled and beamed a bright smile, "Thanks for saving mom. If you didn't then I wouldn't be here either."

"Oh trust me, there was lots of times I saved her. But I'm happy every time she reaches out to me for help ..." I muttered, trailing off. But I chuckled awkwardly and rubbed the side of my neck, "Maybe we should head back. It's getting late already."

"Aw! Another story! I wanna hear the story where you took the entire rainbow cherry blossom tree out of the ground just so mom could see it!" she explained, getting comfortable in the grass. But I stuck my eyebrow up at her with curiosity, "Wait how do you know about that?"

She just giggled and shrugged, "Happy loves to talk about you."

"That little —"

"Aw come on! Another one please!"

I stopped to think, maybe Lucy is wondering where we are. Plus the sun already set and it's starting to get a little chilly. But the second my eyes wandered down at the pouting little face in front of me, I couldn't say no. "Fine. Just one more story."

- Juvia -

The guild was filled with chatter and confusion as to what just happened. Everyone was panicking and wondering what to do. "Okay everyone! Settle down! I'm sure it was a mistake and will probably be resolved soon!" Erza announced, calming everyone down a bit. But even though it was quieter, the tension in the air was as thick as a rock. Everyone was on edge and trying to figure out why the council made those accusations toward Lucy and Natsu.

Master Makarov came out of his office and by the look on his face, whatever he was about to say wasn't good. Before he spoke, he gave a long stressful sigh, "I just spoke with the council and they said that this was classified. But whatever those two are involved in is serious."

"How serious?" I dared to ask.

"They could be facing life in prison."

- Earlier -

I giggled loudly as Levy made a few jokes about Gajeel and his hair until I seen Lucy walking toward the guild doors. "Woah, is that Sting?" Levy muttered. I nodded with curiosity and watched from a far, "Yeah ..... what's he doing here ...?"

"What is the magic council doing here?" Erza butted in. At this point we were all out of our seats and approached them cautiously. Every time we see the magic council nowadays, it was never for a good reason. "Lucy Heartfilia of Sabertooth and Natsu Dragneel of Fairy Tail. You are under arrest for conspiracy of kidnapping." One man, taller and more built out of the rest.

By this time, everyone in the guild was watching Lucy's face drop with worry. "Excuse me? Sting is this some kind of sick joke?" Lucy argued. But he just shook his head, "We have to talk."

The man grabbed Lucy by her shoulder before turning her around to put on handcuffs. But before he could, the boys protested with rage. Laxus glared with annoyance, "Kidnapping? What kind of crap are you guys trying to pull?"

"Salamander wouldn't do something like that, neither would she. Do you guys have your facts straight or what?" Gajeel added in.

"What kind of man would accuse them of this?" Elfman stood up to them as well. Although Mirajane tried to calm him down a bit. Erza stood up and looked at Sting sternly, "What is your knowledge of this situation?" But he just glanced over at Lucy before looking away, signaling that he wouldn't say anything. I could tell that ticked Erza off but she ignored it and grinned at Lucy, "Hold on tight. We'll figure this all out." Though Lucy being Lucy, she smiled widely and nodded, "I'll be fine."

"We know you will be. I'm just worried about Natsu and what he'll do when he finds out about this."

The man locked the handcuffs and motioned for Lucy to keep walking, "Juvia!" she called over to me one last time before disappearing out the front doors, "Watch Luna for me please. She trusts you."

- Lucy -

I looked down at the metal shackles around my wrists and sighed. What the hell is going on? It's been hours and no one has came in to talk to me yet. Not even Sting. So many questions were running through my head and I just want to see Luna already.

A loud creak echoed through the small room as the door cracked open. He sat down in front of me, a big frown plastered on his face. "How are you?" he asked.

"I've been better. You?"

He paused slightly before leaning back into his chair, letting out an exasperating sigh. "We've been through a lot lately. We can't seem to catch a break."

"We? It's a little hard to say 'we' when only one of us is in handcuffs."

Sting frowned even deeper and folded his arms, "I'm not the bad guy here. Would you rather be talking to me or some asshole from the council?"

"You want me to answer that? Cause I don't think you'll like my answer." I spat back with annoyance. Though he just sighed and tried to reassure me, "The council came to the guild and was asking questions about you. They think you and Natsu kidnapped a bunch of people."

I furrowed my eyebrows with confusion as my stomach began to ache, "Why the hell would they think that? I've been at the guild with Luna this whole time. You don't believe them do you?" I argued. But he just shrugged, "All I know is that they have evidence that you and Natsu seen some of these missing people last. I don't know what's going on but you two have to figure this out before the council becomes impatient and —" the door creaked once more as a figure emerged from outside. "Sting Eucliffe. Times up."

"Come on just give me —"

"Times up. We're transporting the prisoner to a cell until further notice."

Sting shot up from his seat with anger, "You can't do that! Just give me some more time with her! This whole thing is a big misunderstanding!" But the man wouldn't budge, "Times. Up." he repeated once more. So I just nodded and grinned at Sting with encouragement, "It'll be fine. I've been through worse."

- Sting -

I could feel my heart clench with guilt as those words escaped her mouth. I felt responsible for her past heartbreaks and tears so I smiled, I genuinely smiled at her, "I believe you. I'll figure this out." Then she disappeared onto the other side of the solid metal door.

When she was gone I could feel this emptiness in the pit of my stomach, I was anxious for what's going to happen to her. But not only that, someone needs to take care of my daughter. So instead of dwelling on all of this, I decided to take a trip down to Fairy Tail.

————————

- Natsu -

I chuckled wholeheartedly and opened the guild door for Luna in front of me. I just told her the story of Lucy and I's first mission at the mansion where she first met Virgo. But that only sparked her interest in magic even more, now she wants to meet all of Lucy's celestial spirits. I'm definitely going to get an earful from her again. Though when I opened the front doors and walked inside, I noticed how quiet it was. Which never happens. Ever.

I looked around and seen a few people scattered here and there but majority of them were surrounding the bar counter with Mira. I looked down at Luna and smiled, "Go play with the exceeds."

"But I wanna stay with you." She nagged. Ugh! My heart.

I shook my head, "Adult talk. I'll be back." She sighed with annoyance but went to the other side of the guild with Happy and the others. I then made my way over to everyone else and smiled, "Yo. What are you guys doing?" But as soon as I said that, everyone's faces turned dark. "What?" I scanned through everyone's reaction and my gut was telling me that something was wrong, something bad happened. So the first thing I had to ask was, "Is Lucy okay?"

- Luna -

I giggled and shouted at Happy, "Okay you're turn! Count to twenty!"

"Aye sir!" then he put his little paws over his eyes and began to count slowly. So I snorted with laughter as I tried to figure out where to hide. "Five ..." he mumbled, but I still had no where to go. My eyes wandered onto the front doors, it was sort of considered cheating to hide outside but — I must win!

I tiptoed outside and quietly closed the door behind me, making sure no one seen me and tried to find a bush to hide in or a table to hide under. "Hehe! He'll never find me." I chuckled deviously. But in the corner of my eye, I noticed something weird. There was a tall shadowy figure standing in the distance near the entrance, just watching. It was really dark outside so I couldn't see who it was, the only source of light were the lamp posts in the distance and the moon in the sky. So I don't think they seen me, that was until I walked right into a trash bin which made a loud noise. The figure faced me and slowly made their way over, it kind of made me nervous since I have no idea who it is. "Who are you?" I questioned.

A low chuckle came from under their hood, which made me assume it was a man. They crept even closer to me and asked, "What are you doing out here all alone little one?"

"I'm playing hide and seek. Why? Do you wanna play?"

"Maybe later ... where's your mom?"

"I don't know. I think she's inside .... you're being creepy ... how do you know my mom?" I muttered straightforwardly. Though they didn't really react and just stood there before asking me one more question, "Where's your dad?"

"I dunno ..."

"When was the last time you seen your mom?"

"Earlier today ..."

"Hmm ..." he hummed under his breath before kneeling down to my level, "Can I join your game?" he asked. I nodded with hesitance. "You count first." he said.

"What do you want me to count from?"

"Ten."

"You can't hide in ten seconds." I protested. But he nodded and motioned for me to start, so I covered my eyes with my hands and began counting, "Ten ..... nine ..... eight ..... seven .... six," I paused when I heard the front doors to the guild creak open behind me. "Luna! I was looking everywhere for you!" Natsu scolded, spinning me around, forcing me to put my hands down.

"But I was playing hide and seek."

"With who?"

Five.

Though, Natsu and I looked at the entrance of the guild where our eyes met several men in shiny armor. They all looked mean and spooky plus they didn't look familiar at all. But I could tell Natsu recognized them.

Four.

"Get behind me." he whispered. I stood behind him and poked my head out to the side, still watching these strange men.

Three.

"What business does the Magic Council have with Fairy Tail?" Natsu asked.

Two.

"Natsu Dragneel of Fairy Tail, by order of the Magic Council we are placing you under arrest for kidnapping, with your partner, Lucy Heartfilia. You will stand before the Council in several days to determine your sentencing."

One.

"What?"
