Chapter 1
Maxine's POV
I walked around after the taxi had dropped me off.
"Am I...lost?" I looked around, confused. I'm unfamiliar with this place so of course I'll get lost. Feeling the urge to give up after wandering around for about an hour, I sat on one of my trolleys, dissapointed. It was almost sunset, and the street was pretty quiet. Well, not actually quiet. You could hear the bustling sounds of the city, cars, and men working. I bowed my head and huffed out a sigh. Just then I heard footsteps on the pavement and whistling. I looked up on time to see a man walking past me.
"Hey! You there! Um, mister!" I called out, but he didn't seem to hear me. Just when he was about to turn around the corner, I quickly got up, ran after him, and grabbed onto his arm. He froze and looked at me with shock. I smiled at him and released his arm.
"Hey, um, can I--"
"What?"
"Well, you see... I just--"
"What?" I sighed, rolling my eyes and pulling out one of his earphones.
"Can you help me?" I asked. "I need to know where Fifth Avenue Lane is."
"Just walk straight and you'll see a sign." He said and pointed at the direction where he came from. Seeing that I understood him, he put on his other earphone and walked away.
"Thank you!" I shouted my thanks and headed to the way I should go.

"Mom, is this it?" I looked at the building that stood before me as I spoke on the phone.
"Of course, it is! Now get in there and call me when you enter your new home." Then she hung up.
I shoved my phone back into my pocket and pulled my two trolleys as I entered through the entrance doors. There at the counter was a girl and she smiled at me as I walked in. I approached her and asked about any of the units here that was just recently bought.
"Oh, yes. You must be Mrs. McKenzie's daughter," she said, still smiling. "Come, I'll send you up."
After the short elevator ride, we finally reached the sixth floor, where my place is.
"Here we are, and here are your keys," she placed them in my hand. "Welcome to you're new home, Miss McKenzie," she said with a welcoming smile.
After she left, I put in the key and turned the doorknob. I slowly entered the room and turned on the lights.
"Oh. My. Gosh." I stood there in awe with a huge smile plastered on my face. I immediately pulled out my phone and dialed Mom's number. When she picked it up, I began screaming.
"You like it?"
"Like it? I love it!" I said, giggling. "Thanks Mom!"
"When you're aunt sent me a pic of it, I knew that it was perfect for you," she said, giggling a bit.
"My aunt?" I was confused.
"Oh yes. Clarice helped me in picking a place for you to stay."
"Then I shall thank her too," I spoke whilst walking around, looking at the place.
"You'll meet her, and you'll meet her son too." I could hear the excitement in her voice.
"Sure. Well, I gotta get settle in now. Thanks again, Mom. Love you." She said goodbye as well and I ended the call.
Once I finished touring, I jumped, screamed, and ran around like crazy. I mean, two bedrooms both with walk-in closets, a huge bathroom, a wide living room, a fancy looking dining room, and a small urban style kitchen was all too much. To top it off, in the living room there's a huge window that leads to a balcony with an amazing view. I sighed as I stood there, gazing at the city. Everything is just perfect. Suddenly, my tummy rumbled telling me that I'm hungry. Putting on a jacket and grabbing my hand bag, I went out to get myself a delicious dinner.

The lady at the counter, Abby, gave me directions and drew me a little map showing the important places and some shops and restaurants that I might want to go to. Mom, should've got me a map too before I left home. I obviously need one of the whole city.
After I had eaten a pleasant meal, I went shopping and got myself a few things that I'd need for college. I bought myself a new bag, a few notebooks, pens, and some other stuff.
Walking back home, under the street lights, I couldn't stop myself from grinning like a happy freak.
"This is the best day of my life!" I screamed, dancing around with my shopping bags.
When I reached back to the condo, still smiling, I immediately let myself in without hesitation and ran to my room. I threw my bags onto the floor, kicked off my flats, and jumped onto the bed.
As I lied there, I couldn't stop thinking about how my college life would be. Would I get a lot of friends? Would I fit in? Would it be easy for me? These thoughts continue to float around in my head for awhile, but faded when I heard a clashing noise.
I quickly sat up and got off the bed. Is there an intruder? I got scared at the thought. But I have to be brave. I grabbed a large book off the shelf and slowly crept into the kitchen. The noise seemed to be coming from there so I have to be careful, I told myself. It might be a thief, a serial killer, or even a ghost!
Leaning on the wall, I mentally counted down to three and jumped into the kitchen.
"Show yourself, ghost!" I yelled out with my eyes closed. I was too scared to see if there might be something spooky in there.
"What the fuck?" The intruder's voice sounded like a guy and his voice was kind of familiar. I slowly opened my eyes then dropped my jaw when I saw who was in there.
"Wh-wha... Why are you here!?"
Hey readers(if there are even any)! Waddup? How's the story so far? Well, it just started, but I really wanna know what you think about this book.
