Winter's P.O.V
Sam parks the car in front of a diner and I furrow my eyebrows in confusion. We drove across town just for a diner that was a few streets down from the school? Is something wrong with Sam's head?
Actually, I'm not going to question that.
I take off my seatbelt and hop out of the car, shutting the door behind me. I watch as Sam appears in front of me, his eyebrow raising. I quickly walk behind him and walk in the diner, the little bell above the door ringing as we walked through. I can't help but chuckle.
How original.
The design of the diner was also original; the main colours being white and red. I notice the counter that goes across the whole dinner and the booths next to the window, the seats red and the tables white.
Sam walks up to the counter and all of sudden, a girl with curly red hair walks out. Her hair was tied up in a messy bun at the top of her head and I can't help but notice how pretty the girl is.
"Sam!" The girl says cheerfully. "It's been way too long! What can I do for you today?" The girl asks, a wide smile on her face and Sam smiles back.
"Hey Sally," Sam greets. "And yes, it has definitely been way too long. I'll just get two cheeseburger meals." Sam says and he slides a twenty dollar bill towards Sally who takes it, placing it in the cash register.
"I'll come back with your order in a few." Sally says, her smile not disappearing from her face and for a split second, she notices me and sends me a small wave before heading back into the kitchen.
I look around and notice a booth in the far corner which is absorbing the most sun. God, it is like a freezer in here... or is it because I am not wearing my jacket, I think to myself before running over to the booth and sitting against the window, letting out a sigh as the window warms up my arms. Sam sits against the window also, opposite from me and I can't help but look up at Sam.
For a split second, Sam looks like he is about to say something before he gets cut off by a ringtone that begins to play loudly.
Sam pulls out his phone and presses it to his ear, looking away from me. "Hello?" Sam asks. "Yeah she's fine." Sam says, glancing over at me and he nods slowly. "Okay, I'll ask her." Sam mutters, pulling the phone away from his ear and looking at me once again.
"Are you okay if it's just you, Alec and Cole tonight?" Sam asks me and I nod slowly. I watch as he presses his phone back to his ear.
"She's okay with it. Yeah, whatever. Bye." Sam says before hanging up the phone, shoving it back in his pocket.
"Who was that?" I ask, curiosity getting the better of me.
"My mom." He simply replies, turning his gaze to the scenery outside.
"Why is it gonna be me, Cole and Alec?" I ask Sam and he looks over at me, raising an eyebrow at me.
"Do you have a mute button?" He asks, looking quite annoyed. I shake my head, smiling slightly. He sighs and runs a hand through his hair.
"Hayden and I are going out and my mom is stuck at work." Sam explains and I nod. All of a sudden, I notice Sally appear with the two trays of food in her hands, a wide smile on her face.
"Enjoy you two." Sally says but before she walks away, she looks over at me and sends me a firm nod, the smile still on her face.
"Winter." Sally says before walking away. I furrow my eyebrows and notice Sam's eyes on me, curious as to how Sally knows my name.
"How does she know your name?" Sam asks and I look over at Sally who is making her way back to the kitchen. I look back at Sam, a small frown making its way onto my face.
"I don't know."
----------
"Run, run, run!" I shout, covering my hands over my head as I run towards the car. Instead of thinking that Sam would actually hurry since it is pouring down, I notice him walking slowly to his side of the car.
"Unlock the car!" I yell towards his direction, jumping at the sound of lightening. Sam takes out his keys and clicks a button, making the car lights flash. I immediately open the car door and jump onto the passenger seat, hugging my freezing body. Sam gets in and starts the car.
"Thanks a lot." I mutter under my breath and Sam looks over at me, his eyebrow raising.
"For what?"
"I'm probably going to get a cold because of you." I snap coldly, rubbing my hands up and down my arms.
"If you get sick, I'll call you a doctor - wait, I actually don't care." Sam says with a smirk and I roll my eyes.
Of course you don't.
----------
I open my eyes, my smile creeping onto my face. The chairs are warming me up and the faint music playing from the stereo is currently keeping me calm and relaxed, which is something I never would have guessed when being in the same car as the bad boy.
But all of a sudden, my smile slips off my face when I notice that we has passed the school. With my eyes widen, I look over at Sam who is tapping his fingers on the steering wheel.
"Sam, where are we going?" I ask as we stopped at a red light.
"Home." Sam replies and I gasp.
"No, we can't! I can't! My jacket is in my locker and my mom is going to be so angry at me! Does it look like I want to die? I don't-"
Sam places his finger to my lips, shutting me up. I flick his hand away and send Sam a glare, watching as he looks back at the road.
"First of all, your mom won't know because she is in Africa. Second, you can get your jacket tomorrow and lastly, do you really want to go back just to hear more people say shit about you?" Sam asks, beginning to drive and I let out a sigh.
"No." I say, my voice coming out like a whisper. Sam glances over at me, a smirk on his face.
"So, what do you say?"
I breathe out a long sigh and look out the window, watching the rain drops slide down the window.
"Okay."
----------
Sam parks the car in front of the house and I stay still for a second or two until I come up with enough courage to open the door and run out in the pouring rain. Before I know it, I open the car door and immediately run under the shelter, waiting patiently for Sam to open the door. When he does, I run inside and head straight towards the fireplace.
"Your such a drama queen." Sam says and I watch as he takes off his leather jacket. I send a small frown his way.
"Well maybe if I got my jacket, I wouldn't be acting like such a 'drama queen'." I retort and he chuckles, walking over to the couch and sitting down, placing his feet up on the coffee table.
As I sit in front of the fireplace in silence, I hear some music begin to play on the television and I look up. The song Love Yourself by Justin Bieber plays and I can't help but let out a squeal.
I love Justin Bieber!
I jump up from my seat on the floor and sit on the couch, beginning to curl up in a ball. As we both watched the video, boredom clear on Sam's face while I smile widely, I begin to hum the chorus.
Then, all of a sudden, I let out a gasp.
Sam Anderson changed the channel... and to football!
"Sam you jerk!" I whine and start to hit his shoulder. He raises an eyebrow at me and I glare at him. Suddenly, we begin to have a staring competition.
"Your such an idiot." I say, staring into Sam's hazel eyes.
"You don't swear, do you?" Sam asks, a small chuckle escaping his lips as he stares into my blue eyes.
"No. What's the point of swearing when you can use normal, appropriate words?" I ask, a little grin appearing on my face.
"Well, you can use swear words to make your point much more stronger and bold." Sam retorts and I mentally roll my eyes.
"Honey, I'm home!" I hear a voice shout, followed by the sound of a laugh escaping someone's lips. Sam and I both jump, looking away from each other.
Cole stares at the both of us and Alec grins cheekily while Hayden grabs an apple from the fruit bowl. Alec crosses his arms over his chest and raises an eyebrow.
"Are we interrupting something here?" Alec speaks up and I shake my head straight away.
"We were just-"
"Talking." Sam cuts me off and I look over at Sam who is glancing between the three boys.
"What about?" Cole pushes and Sam and I share a look.
"Football." We both say at the same time and I hear Hayden laugh.
"Well Winter, can I borrow my brother? We gotta go." Hayden says and I remember when Sam told me at the diner that I will be staying home with just Alec and Cole tonight.
"Yep." I say, popping the 'p'. Sam stands up and grabs his leather jacket, which is soaking wet by the way, and heads out the door with Hayden following behind him.
Cole and Alec share a small grin as the both jump on the couch, sitting on both sides of me. "What happened?" Alec says and I furrow my eyebrows.
"We were talking... about football." I say slowly and point to the television that was still running.
Cole nods but I can tell that he doesn't believe me by the grin on his face. "Okay, what team is that?" Cole asks and I look at the television to see a team running on the field in a blue uniform.
"Uh... it's the - uh-"
"Busted." I hear Alec whisper in ear and I tightly shut my eyes.
"Fine. You probably won't believe me but we were having a glaring competition."
"We believe you." Cole says and I open my eyes, looking at both Alec and Cole.
"And that is what caused you two to almost kiss." Alec adds and I gasp, glancing over at him.
"We did not almost kiss! It wasn't even close to that!" I protest, my voice rising a little.
"Whatever you say, Winnie." Alec grins. "I would continue on this interesting subject we have going now but I am starving and I am ready for some COD." Alec says, standing up from the couch and walking towards the kitchen.
"Can I play?" I call out to him and Alec let's out a laugh, looking over his shoulder to send me a smirk.
"Let me win."
"No way." I say, chuckling a little when I hear Alec let out a groan. Cole joins me and laughs also, his eyes flickering over to the television.
