Hello...Mother (Part 2)
Marinette's POV
Yesterday was a surprising day...but it somehow motivated me to do something....
I want to speak to my mother.
My birth mother.
My mother wasn't always harsh with me. Before Baron found out that I wasn't his child, mother was very sweet and loving towards me.
Whenever she wasn't working, she would play with Marie and I, although they were rare moments. Either way, I remember enjoying those times.
" I want to know what changed."
"What was that Mari?" Adrien said.
I blinked a couple of times and looked at him.
" Huh? What was what?" I asked confused.
" You said something about wanting to know what changed. What changed?" Adrien asked.
" Oh...I was just thinking...I guess I thought out loud by accident...Actually, I wanted to ask you a question." I said nervously.
He looked at me as in telling me to continue.
" Are you satisfied after seeing and talking to your mother?" I asked. I looked him in the eyes and I tried to read him, but I couldn't.
" I mean I guess. It took away my curiosity and answered my questions, so I guess it did well, but after finding out, I thought if it would be better if I never found out. What if I decided not to see and talk to her yesterday? Would I feel a piece missing or would I be fine. I mean I feel okay, but still a bit shocked at meeting her in person and finding out about why she left...I always thought of her as a good person...Now I don't see her that way..." Adrien said while looking down at his lap.
I don't know what to say...Should I tell him that I want to see and speak to my birth mother in person? Would that upset him or would he support me in my decision.
"...I want it too..." I said quietly.
" You want what too?" He asked me. I slapped my hand over my mouth.
" Mari, you can tell me anything. I'll listen to you and respect your decision." He said sounding sincere. He grabbed my interlocked hands with his, and then looked at me as if he could read me like a book.
" I won't force you to tell me if you don't want to, but just know that you can talk to to me whenever." He says and he lets go of my hands and stands up to leave.
I made up my mind to tell him!
I grabbed his shirt from behind. He stopped and looked back towards me.
" Yes Mari?" He asked.
" I...I want...I want to speak to my mother too..." I said slowly.
His eyes widened from most likely shock.
" Are you sure?" He asked and I nodded.
" Did me talking to my mother yesterday, inspire you to talk to your mother?" He asked and I nodded once again.
" Yes. I know my mother is in jail and that it was from what happened in the past and her kidnapping and drugging me, but she wasn't always like that..." I said quickly.
He looked at me with a small smile.
" If you want to speak to her, we can make it happen." He said and I tackled him into a hug.
" Thank you! I've been wanting to talk to her for a while now, but I constantly denied myself of doing it. I'm glad I can find out why she did what she did. Nothing will excuse everything she has done, but at least I get to have some sort of closure." I said, rambling a bit.
" I'm glad that it is making you happy." He said reciprocated the hug.
" Do you think I can talk to her today? If I can't, I can wait until I can." I said excitedly.
" We can do today if you like, bit not right now since it is still quite early in the morning. Let's wait until the afternoon, okay?" He said and smiled brightly.
" Okay!" I said while doing the okay sign with my hand.
" For now, let's just eat some breakfast then cuddle on the couch!" He said excitedly while bringing some pancakes from the kitchen.
" Our personal Chef Edgar, made us some delicious pancakes!" He said, while setting down the pancaked onto the table.
" They smell absolutely divine!" I said, basically drooling over the pancakes.
We ate as if we haven'¡ eaten in days. The pancakes were so good. They didn't even need that much syrup or butter.
We finished rather quickly and went to the living room to cuddle on the couch. There was already a fluffy blanket there to be used.

" Are you ready to leave Mari?" Adrien asked as he walked into my bedroom.
" Almost." I said as I look at myself in the mirror.
(One of my designs)
I put my hair in a ponytail and I was done.
" How do I look?" I asked Adrien.
" You look beautiful as always." He said and then gave me a kiss on the cheek.
" Should we use masks so people don't recognize us? If it get out to the paparazzi that I'm visiting my mom in prison, they would probably assume the worst and I can't have any bad publicity, because I have a multi-trillion company and many people depend on me." I said, being as carful as possible. He nods.
"Okay so masks it is-wait. That makes us look suspicious if they do recognize us with the masks." I said
Either way, the paparazzi will make up stories about us, good or bad. Most of them don't know what privacy is, so we'll most likely still be followed." Adrien said and I nodded.
" No masks." I said and walked out.
Adrien put his mask and mine in his pocket.
" I'll take them with me just in case you change your mine, okay?" He said and I smiled warmly at him.
" You know me too well." I said and kissed him on the cheek.
He smile brightly at me and I melted on the spot.
" Let's go, Love." He said while grabbing my hand and walking out of the room, down the hall, down the stair, and out the door.
" Gorilla will give us a ride there. Since it's on the other side of the Paris." Adrien said while opening the car door for me.
" Okay and thank you." I said before getting into the car and sitting down. Adrien got in right after me.
" I'm nervous..." I said after the door closed and Gorilla/Gordon started the car.
" Everything is going to be fine. She can't hurt you when she is behind bars." He said as he held my right hand.
" I know that, but I'm nervous of what I'm going to find out..." I said. I was visibly shaking.
" If you aren't ready today, we can leave and come back tomorrow." He offered and I smiled at him, but shook my head.
" Thank you, but I am ready now. Nerves won't stop me from finding out the truth." I said, mostly to myself.
" Mari...Okay. If you think you are good to go, I trust you."
I kissed his cheek and smiled brightly at him.
" Thank you, Adrien."

We made it to the prison, where my mom is being held.
As the car stopped, my heart dropped from nervousness.
I did some some breathing exercises. I also felt Adrien holding my hand, trying to calm me down.
" I'm good now. Let's go." I said while opening the door and getting out. Adrien followed right behind me to the front desk. The men at the front desk gasped at the sight of us.
" State why you have come." The receptionist said.
" I'm here to see and speak to one of the prisoners."I said nervously.
The man cocked an eyebrow at that.
" Please state who you want to see and speak with." The guy said.
I took a deep breath and looked at Adrien who only gave me a worried look.
I shook my head to reassure him that I'm fine and I want to do this.
" Esmé Juliard." I said.
The guy behind the receptionist gasped while the receptionist looked at me with an ' Are you serious' look.
" Are you going to speak to her in the visiting room or do you want a private room so you can speak to the prisoner?"
" If it isn't to much of a bother, I would prefer a private room." I said.
He nodded and typed on the keyboard.
Adrien was right next to me and he grabbed my hand, giving it a tight squeeze to reassure me some more.
" Once the prisoner is brought into the room, there won't be any harm coming to the prisoner, right? If you have doubt that you harm her, please refrain from seeing or speaking to the prisoner." He said.
" No harm will come her." I stated seriously.
" Alright then." The man said while typing on a keyboard.
" State your name and I'm going to need you to sign in a bit to finalize your visit as well for the private room." He said.
" My name is Marinette L. Dupain-Cheng." I said.
He nodded and typed the name in.
" Sign." He said while handing a machine with a stylus pen that is connected by a long curly wire.
I signed quickly.
He quickly typed as he noticed me rushing.
" Aaand...Sign." He said again.
I once again, quickly signed.
" Does my fiance also have to sign in?" I asked .
" Is he going to be entering with you?" He asked.
I looked at Adrien to confirm if he was going to come with me to see her.
" It's your decision, Love. Do you want me to be there with you?" He asked.
I pondered for a bit.
" Actually, can you stay outside? I want to have some privacy for now. I'll tell you all about it when we get home though." I said to him with pleading eyes.
" Alright Princess. I'll wait outside." He said, with a small comforting smile on his face.
" So what I'm hearing is that you are going to go alone? Do you want a guard to accompany you?" The receptionist said.
I nodded.
" Yes, but can they stay by the door? I don't want to alarm her." I asked.
He nodded.
" Alright Ms. Dupain-Cheng, please follow the guard behind you. They will take you to the private room and the prisoner will be brought to you shortly." He said.
" Thank you very much." I said and quickly turned around to follow the guard inside to the private room.
" I'll be waiting here for you, M'lady." Adrien said. I turned towards him and gave him a small smile.
It took a few minutes to get to the private room, but that's okay.
The guard opened the door for me with their key card.
" Please enter Ms. Dupain-Cheng." They said.
I did as told and sat down.
The room looked like the interrogation rooms in crime shows.
(For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, this is how the room looks like)
I sat down on the chair, waiting for my biological mother to be brought in.
" These cuffs really aren't comfortable."
Someone said as the got closer and closer towards where I was.
I looked at the door and saw my mother being somewhat pushed into the room.
The guard dragged her to the chair and sat her down.
" You have 1 hour to talk." They said and walked towards the door.
I looked at her. The woman who looks just like me, but older. The woman who birthed me.
" Hello...Mother." I said as I looked at her.
She didn't bother to look at me. Her face was facing her lap.
" Why did you want to talk to me? Why? After all I've done to you, why do you still want to talk to me?!" She asked...no. She was sobbing.
" I-I just wanted to know why you changed. You weren't always bad to me. It was all good until I Baron found out I wasn't his. Why did you also, abuse me, Mother?" I asked her.
She still refused to look me in the eyes.
"....I'-Im so sorry!...I was scared!...I was scared of Baron! You were a product of infidelity...but you were also a product with the man who I truly loved...and I was angry that I couldn't be with him...I took it all out on you when Baron found out..." She said and I could see that multiple tears dropped from her eyes.
" ...Why did you let him...use me? Was it also because you were scared of him?" I asked as my eyes were also becoming teary.
She looked at me ,but not directly at my eyes.
" I truly didn't know that he did that to you. I just thought he was hitting you...which doesn't make it any better..." She said.
" You look just like me when I was younger, you know..." She said and I just nodded.
" I truly hate myself...so did my mother...Seeing you grow up...reminded me of myself when I was younger. I would take out my aggression of myself onto you, instead of hurting myself. It all stems from when I was younger, after all." She said sadly.
" What happened when you were younger? Why did your mother hate you?" I asked.
"...The same reason why I can't look you in the eyes now..." she said.
" What is that reason?" I asked highly curious.
Something tells me that I won't like the response....
" There is a strange curse that runs in our family....When you become a mother to the child of the one you truly love, you will come to hate them whenever you look at them." She said.
" I don't understand." I said, thoroughly confused.
" I kept my distance from you ever since you were born for a reason..." She said sadly and looked away from me.
" I was never there for you, Lucia...it was Sabine, the maid, who took care of both you and Marie. However, I actually did spend time with Marie, unlike you...whenever I spend time with you, I would hurt you...or neglect you." She said sorrowfully.
I tried to remember again and it suddenly clicked.
She really never was there for me....She was only there for Marie....My brain made false memories and I think I know why...
I was trying to cope from the neglect my mother was showing me...
" How can I trust you when you say that this 'curse' runs in the family? Hell, The 'curse' could just be an excuse for neglecting and abusing me when I was a child and also for kidnapping and drugging me. When did this curse even start?" I said skeptically and sarcastically.
" I understand why you are skeptical but I swear it isn't just some bullshit excuse. It all started with Your Great Great Great Grandmother. She was forced into an arranged marriage with a man with immense wealth and power, but after the marriage was set, he found out that she was with another man. The wealthy man was enraged and he hired a witch to curse her. At first your Great Great Great Grandmother laughed in the witches face which angered the which and she casted the curse. She didn't believe the curse, so she had a child with the man she loved, and soon began to despise her child. If you still don't believe me, there is a book about it in my old childhood house...I never thought that I would need it so, I didn't take it with me." She said and let out a forced laugh.
" Where is your childhood house? Can you give me the address, so I can find the book?" I asked.
She nodded.
" It is located in The U.S. New York, Brooklyn,
374 pacific street 11217." She said.
( This is an actual address that I'm using and if you're asking if it is my home address, it is not.)
I took out my phone and wrote down the address.
" Where in the home is it specifically?" I asked her.
" It should be in my mothers old room on the bookshelf. The book is a very old book, so you will be able to see it immediately from there." She said.
I typed it down onto my phone.
" Lucia...I'm truly apologize for everything I put and let you go through without realizing it. I 100% deserve to be locked locked up in this prison for life. But some word of advice. If you don't want to end like me, please don't have any children with the man you love. I can tell you really love Adrien Agreste...but please don't have children." She said and my heart dropped.
" We'll see. I'm done talking to you, bye." I said as I got up and walked out, the guard was right behind me.
I couldn't help but let my thought run wild.
If all of this is true, if the curse is real then....
How will Adrien react it?
