CHAPTER 52
|AUTHOR|
Viraj didn't really want to think about how he's going to tell Sameer all of this. To be honest he wanted to push this as far away as he could. "I don't know! I didn't think about it yet. Can we talk about this later?" Arjun shook his head.
"No we need to talk about this right now Viraj!" Viraj's let out a frustrated breath. "I could have called and told him everything when you were unconscious but I didn't, because I want you to tell him! It's better if you do it!" Naina gave Viraj a sympathetic look. She knew he was getting stressed.
"Arjun why don't you give him sometime. I'll make sure he'll call him tomorrow. It's really late today. Did this air in any of the news or something?" Viraj gave a serious look wondering about the same.
"No god no! I'm really thankful that we were able to do this without the media interfering for once. If that were the case it would have been really nasty. Viraj you really need to talk to him and we need to make sure that Rajesh Mishra cuts all the ties with Gupta Enterprises. I know it's hard but Sameer is more like you brother."
Viraj knew Arjun was right. It would be better if he breaks the news to him rather than him finding about it from someone else. That would makes things more complicated. "Fine! I'll call him tomorrow!" Arjun gave him a satisfied nod and exited the room.
Once Arjun left the room leaving Viraj and Naina alone. Viraj groaned and ran his fingers through his hair. "I cannot do this! Imagine the amount of hurt and betrayal he will feel. He already feels guilty that he doesn't run the company well, which is not at all true. This is not fair! I hate this!"
Naina sighed and nodded her head. "Yeah I know but you are his family in every sense. He deserves to know everything. I know it's going to be hard." Viraj hissed when he moved a little. Pain shot through his right shoulder. Naina glared at him and adjusted the pillows behind him.
"What is wrong with you? Why are you moving so much? Stay still!!!" Naina shouted at him a cursed under her breath. Viraj couldn't help but admire the beauty before him. He knew for a fact that he wouldn't be able to survive this period without Naina in his life. Hell he can never survive without her.
Her angry face always amused him. He couldn't help but feel fuzzy and warm when Naina comforted him. "Naina you're so beautiful!" He whispered huskily and glanced at him through her eyelashes. She rolled her eyes but her lips morphed into a smile. "Shut up! Go to sleep. I'll be right there if you need anything."
Naina pointed at the couch that was in the room. She was about to get up but Viraj refused to let her go. He yanked her back. "Don't go! Please stay right here!" Naina smiled at him softly and brushed his hair. "That's sweet but I think you need to sleep comfortably and this bed isn't exactly for two people."
Viraj shook his head like a petulant child. "Please, I'll be comfortable if you're with me!" He begged her on and on. Naina rolled her eyes and finally gave in. Before that she walked outside and requested their friends to leave. They insisted on staying back but she told them Viraj and her would be alright.
"Guys come on please go! All of you need to rest. I'll be fine here. Besides Viraj is awake now. I promise to call you in case of anemergency." She begged them once again. "Okay we're leaving but call us if you need anything!" Annie insisted and the rest of them nodded their heads.
Everyone hugged her and finally left the hospital. They will be going to the army quarters that was assigned to them. Naina sighed and entered the room.Viraj had already fallen asleep. All the medicines made him drowsy. Naina let out a gush of breath.
She walked slowly towards his bed. Viraj looked so cute when he was asleep. Naina was mesmerized, she sat there for a while and admired every inch of his face. She wondered as to how someone could be this perfect and moreover how can someone like him be hers.
She sat on the stool resting her head on the railings of the hospital bed and fell asleep admiring Viraj. She thanked god for keeping him safe. It wasn't exactly a comfortable position but she could care less.
Somewhere in the middle of the night Viraj sat up with a jerk gasping for air. He grunted in pain because of the sudden movement. Naina frowned and opened her eyes. When she saw Viraj gritting his teeth in pain she gasped and got up immediately walking to his right side.
"What is wrong with you? Why can't you stay still and rest for sometime?" She scolded him as she helped him lay back on the bed as slowly as possible. Once again she arranged the pillows behind him. Viraj stared at the woman before him with love. He could look at her for a lifetime. He didn't know what he had done to deserve her but he was so thankful to have her in his life.
That recurring nightmare had once again occurred and this time the faceless man who had stabbed naian had a face and it was Rajesh Mishra's. It's going to take a long time for him to get over this. He had completed many missions before but this was going to leave an everlasting scar. Naina poured a glass of water for him and asked him to drink.
Viraj gulped it because his throat was dry and parched. Once he ws done Naina placed the glass back on the table that was next to his bed. "Are you okay? What happened?" Viraj closed his eyes and shook his head. "Relax Viraj! You need to relax!" Viraj opened his eyes and asked Naina to lay beside him.
"No it'll be uncomfortable. Plus you'll strain your shoulder." She told him sternly and walked away to sit on the stool. Viraj rolled his eyes. "Naina please! Can you sleep beside me? I'll be fine! I swear please!" His voice sounded hoarse and his grey eyes appeared tired.
Naina couldn't say no to him. He even pouted a bit. She threw her hands in the air. "Ugh fine! Scoot over!" Viraj's face instantly morphed into a huge grin and he moved a bit to give her space. Naina chuckled and laid beside him. Viraj grinned widely and pulled her closer. He sighed and buried his face in her neck.
Naina shuttered as she felt sparks run down her body. Viraj sniffed her and instantly felt relaxed. All his nerves calmed down. He pressed his face further and smiled agaist her skin. "Naina you could have gone with the rest of them. I was going to be fine here, by myself." Who was he kidding? He wouldn't have felt this much peace if not for her presence. He just said that because he wanted to know what she would say.
Naina rolled her eyes and scoffed. "Well that's funny because you're literally sticking to me right now! Why will I leave when you are here stupid? Stop talking and go to sleep!" Viraj breathed a laugh against her neck, once again sending shivers down her spine. "As you say ma'am! Good night! I love you." He mumbled the last part falling into deep slumber.
Naina smiled and brushed a fingers through his hair. The only one losing was Veer, if he would have been here this moment would have been complete and prefect. She pecked his forehead and fell asleep after a while. No matter how uncomfortable the position was this was the best sleep Naina had ever gotten.
***
It was already the next morning and Viraj was whining like a kid and getting on Naina's nerves. He refused to take her help and insisted that he do everything on his own despite being injured. Naina wanted to slam his head against the wall and put some sense into his brain.
He even refused to take her help while eating. He struggled a bit to eat in his left hand but didn't let Naina feed him. By the end of afternoon Naina was fuming with anger. The rest of them were amused and found it as their source of entertainment. They knew how stubborn Viraj can be at times.
Naina was about to loose it when Annie interrupted. "Naina sweetie, come on let's go for a walk!" She pushed Naina out of the room and threw a glare at Viraj who shrugged his shoulders and rolled his eyes. "Annie! I'm not in the mood! Please can we go back in." Naina pleaded her.
Annie shook her head and pulled her towards the garden area of the hospital. She pushed Naina into the bench. Naina gave up and sat down. "What? Why did you bring me here?" Annie sat down next to her and breathed out a laugh. "Trust me I had to bring you here else you would have lost it!"
Naina scoffed and folded her arms across her chest glaring at the tree in front of her. "He's so bloody annoying! Why can't he take my help? I'm going to marry him for godsake!!! What's the big deal?" Naina hissed out and clicked her tounge.
Annie laughed and pulled her cheeks. Naina whined swatting her hands away. "You're so cute when you're angry!"Naina rolled her eyes and shoved Annie's shoulder. "Okay! Here's the deal. Whenever Viraj get's injured he hates it if any one of us take care of him. He doesn't like it." Naina frowned and turned towards Annie.
"But why? I love him and I care about him. It's only natural that I want to help him!!!" Annie sighed and nodded her head. "I understand but it's one of his fears. It might seem really stupid but yeah it is." Naina raised her brows asking her what it was.
"He doesn't want to get attached to anyone or wants to depend on anyone. He's scared that people are going to leave him and it'll hurt him so bad that he can never get over it. So he tends to do everything on his own. He never shared his feelings, that changed when you came. But this, still needs to be dealt with." Naina's eyes brimmed with tears.
"Why um why does he feel that way?" Naina gulped, trying to control the tears that threatened to fall from her eyes. But alas she wasn't successful. Annie sighed placed her arms around Naina's shoulder. "Hey don't cry! It's because of his parents death. That was so hard on him and turned him into a stone. It rattled him so bad. He's scared that he'll get too used to your presence and one fine day you'll walk away from his life."
Naina shook her head and wiped the tears that were running down her face. " He we always reserved Naina but since Arjun and Neel have become his friends he has started to come out of it. He still has to get used to you. It might take him a while but don't give up on him ever. He can be very frustraring I know."
Naina cried a little more and took a deep breath. "How do you know all of this?" Naina whispered into thin air. Annie smiled sadly, "Are you forgetting that both of us are orphans. I felt the exact same way, I still feel like that at times." Naina was about to disagree when Annie raised her hand.
"I know what you're going to say but it takes time Naina. We have to live with it for the rest of our lives. At least Viraj's parents didn't leave him on purpose but mine did. I'm not saying that makes his situation any better. But yeah it does leave a lasting scar. A scar on your soul."
Annie closed her eyes and remembered all the times she craved for love, the sense of security and belonging. Naina sighed sadly and hugged her. Annie chuckled lightly and hugged Naina back. "I was the exact same way with Arjun but he made me feel loved and wanted. Have patience and don't give up on him ever. What you witnessed is only the beginning Naina. There might be more situations like this in the future but please never ever give up on him."
Naina pulled away and smiled at Annie. "I promise to never give up on him. No matter what hurdles come our way we'll get through it together. He's being stupid right now but that's okay. I'll talk to that idiot. Thank you Annie! I have no idea what I would do without you."
Annie laughed and hugged Naina once again. " Of course Naina! I'm always here. Come on let's go see what your idiot is doing right now." Annie stood up and dragged Naina towards Viraj's room. They entered the room giggling like a bunch of idiots.
They stopped laughing when they sensed the tension in the room. "That's enough Viraj! Call him right now and tell him to come here today! What if someone fills his ears about you and gives him wrong information?" Arjun screamed at Viraj who let out a frustrated breath.
"You promised that you'll do it in the morning but it's already way past afternoon. Call. Him. Right. Now!" Arjun gritted out once again. Neel sighed walking towards Arjun and patted his back. "Cool it man! Viraj what Arjun said is right. We still don't know who are all involved with Rajesh Mishra. They could be politicians and anyone even among us. We need to inform Sameer before any other person before someone else does. So please call him. Right now."
The girls stood behind and watched the scene unfolding. They knew it wasn't a good idea to interfere. Viraj knew that his friends were right. He finally gave up and nodded his head. "Fine I will! Will all please leave the room except Naina. Please, come back after sometime."
"Fine! Here!" Arjun tossed the phone to him. He caught it in an instant. "Come let's go! You better do this and call me once you inform him! I'll make the arrangements for him to get here." Viraj gave him a stern look but agreed without any argument. Annie and Indu squeezed Naina's hand and walked away, the boys following them.
Naina crossed her arms across her chest and pointed towards the phone. Viraj dreaded this moment but Sameer meant so much to him. He was only avoiding it because he didn't want to break his heart. "Call him! What are you waiting for?!"
"I am! Can you not shout as well? Also can you come here." Naina walked and took a seat beside him. Naina held his hand and bliked her eyes assuring him it's going to be okay. Viraj took a deep breath and dialed his number. He bit his lip and waited impatiently for Sameer to pick up the call.
After 4 agonizing rings Sameer lifed the call. " Hey Bhai! How are you? I heard you were on a mission how did it go?" Viraj obviously now it wasn't right for him to reveal it on phone. "Hi Sam! I'm good. Uh is it possible for you to come to Kochi right now? I'll give you the address come there. Nothing to worry. Arjun will be there at the airport to pick you up."
Sameer got up from his chair abruptly and frowned. "Why? Is everything alright?" Viraj sighed, Naina smiled at him sympathetically. She squeezed his hand assuring him that everything will be alright. " Uhh I'm injured and admitted in the hospital. I need to tell you something important so can you get here soon."
Sameer gasped And screamed into the phone. "Bhai when were you going to tell me??!?! I'm booking the next flight to Kochi right this very second! Are you okay?" Sameer typed on his laptop frantically booking the next flight.
"I'm okay Sam. Nothing serious, I'll tell you the rest when you get here." Sameer frowned something was telling him that Viraj was hiding something big from him. He trusted his big brother and agreed to it. "Okay I'll be there. Take care of yourself." Viraj sighed and cut the call with a meek bye. He called Arjun immediately and informed him that Sameer was going to come soon.
Naina hugged him and kissed his hair. "It's going to be fine!" She whispered and rubbed his back. "I sure as hell hope!" Viraj mumbled and sniffed. Naina's fragrance was helping him relax. They embraced each other until Naina's phone started ringing. Viraj groaned and pulled her tigheter. He wasn't in the mood to let her go.
Naina laughed as she remembered Veer. He does the exact same thing. She missed him terribly. "Okay move! This might be important." She looked at him amused as he groaned and pulled away. The medicines are making him act like a petulant child.
He grunted letting her go. Naina squealed as she glanced at the caller id. It was from another company. She controlled her excitement and lifed the call. "Hello, am I speaking to Miss Naina Rao?" She squeaked a little and Viraj frowned at her
Clearing her throat she took a deep breath. "Hello yes this is she! May I know who's this?" Naina asked in a very professional voice. "Naina we're calling from Delta Enterprises. You have been selected for the interview. It's scheduled for next Thursday. The rest of the details will be mailed to you."
Naina mouthed oh my god and pumped her fists in the air. "Thank you ma'am!" With that she cut the call and screamed "Yaay!" Not that Techie Enterprises was a bad company but this was an even more amazing company. To have been selected here was a huge deal for her.
She was that both the interviews weren't clashing. One was on Monday and the other one was Thrusday. "Can you tell me what just happened?" Naina squealed and bounced on her feet. She slammed her lips against his. Viraj staggered back but smiled against her lips.
Naina had no control over her euphoria. He let out a raspy laugh after a few kisses and pulled away. "I dint mid this at all but who was that?" Naina grinned widely, "I forgot to tell you! This was my second interview call! One was from Techie Enterprises and this one was from Delta Enterprises! I'm so happy!"
Naina clapped her hands like a child. Viraj smiled proudly at his girlfriend and embraced her. "That's awesome! Both are really good companies. Why didn't you tell me before?" Naina rolled he eyes. "It slipped out of my mind. Not a big deal. Really I forgot with everything that had been going on." She moved her hands stressing her point.
Viraj sighed but nodded his head with a forced smile. He hated doing this to her. He didn't like the pain she was put through, but this was part of his life and if she wanted to be with him, he knew she had to bear all of this.
Sure Naina had knew Viraj only for a few months but she knew him enough to know the look on his face meant he was ovethinking about their relationship. She was annoyed and irritated. What more did she have to do to make him understand that she's in it for the long haul?
She snapped her fingers in front of his eyes and raised her brows. "Shut your brain for a while. I'm not leaving you nor do you have to feel bad for anything. I understand that this is part of who you are and I'm ready to endure all of it. So stop thinking so much!" She gritted out and puffed her cheeks in anger.
"I don't know Naina! I mean you could do so much better than me! I don't even know why you would want to go through all the hardships and long distance. It's not going to be easy and there's still time. If you want you can back out and I will never judge you."
Naina was shocked. Was she hearing right or were her ears ringing? Is he out of his mind? She wanted to scream and shout at him but refrained herself as this was a hospital, moreover she didn't want to create a scene. "You are UNBELIEVABLE! How can you even say that? You know my answer as I have told you a million times. Yet you say all this carp!!! I'm so mad at you right now!"
Viraj sighed, he knew he had hit the wrong nerve but he had to get it out of his system. His stupid insecure mind was driving him to the edge. He tried to touch Naina's cheek. She slapped his hand away and was about to walk away. He yanked her and she fell right on his chest.
Her hair tickled his chest and fell across her face. "Let me go! I don't want to talk to you right now! Asshole!" Viraj sighed and asked her to calm down. "No I'm not going to be calm. God! You're using your left hand and still you're so strong!" Viraj smirked at her. "I know! Did you forget who I am?"
Naina rolled her eyes and screeched trying to pry her hand from his hold. "I'm heavy let me go!" She yelled and Viraj scoffed. He has told her a million times that she isn't fat but yet she refused to believe. "Like you refuse to believe that she's never going to leave you!" His subconscious mind sneered at him.
Viraj had to agree. That was true and a stupid thing to say. "I'm sorry!" Naina rolled her eyes and finally managed to pry her hand from his grip. "I don't care. Shove your sorry somewhere else. After everything that I have done. I didn't tell my parents, I extended my stay here just for you and you know what it doesn't matter! You should know better than to say this crap."
Viraj was about to defend himself when someone knocked on the door. Much to their embarrassment all of their friends including Sameer had witnessed their fight. Not the entire thing but definitely a part of it. Naina closed her eyes and cursed under her breath. This was embarrassing! Why did their first big fight have to be like this?
"Uh is this a bad time guys?" Naina closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "Of course not! Hi Sameer! Come in." All of them entered the room reluctantly. Annie knew this wasn't just a small fight. Viraj pulled Naina before she could leave and whispered in her ears.
"We'll talk later, I promise and I'm, I'm sorry!" Naina rolled her eyes but nodded her head hesitantly as Viraj wasn't letting her go. Finally he let her go and Naina moved away from him. He turned his attention back to Sameer.
"How are you feeling now Bhai?" Sameer asked and sat on the stool. Viraj glanced at Arjun who gave him the look which meant tell him everything right now. Viraj sighed but shook his head slightly. Not the best day for him. "I'm feeling better now Sam. Thank you for coming!"
Sameer scoffed, "Of course Bhai! So what's going on? Is everything alright?" Viraj took a deep breath and mentally prepared himself for the next few minutes. The tension in the room increased by the second. Sameer was going to be hit by the unknown.
