I don't think that's too much :)
|MEERA|
I don't know how to get rid of Suraj. I am struggling here. Not to mention Veer, he's acting like he possessed or something. He has no right to barge in here after that and say all those things to me. I'm not someone who will endure all his bullshit.
I know today is particularly a hard day for him. Naina Aunty called and told me everything. I followed him to the cemetery and watched him from far. I could tell that he was crying. Everything in me wanted to go and comfort him. But, I kept my distance and watched him from far. This has to be the first time in all these years that I have seen him so calm and relaxed despite all the fact that he was crying.
Naina Aunty felt guilty when she told me about Veer's birth mother because it was after all Veer's secret to tell. But, she did say that her son is stubborn and that she was doing him a favor by telling me everything. Well, not everything but at least one of the many secrets that he has been harboring.
I assured her that it's okay and that I'll watch over him. That made her immensely happy but that doesn't mean I'm going to forgive him for all the things that he said that day. He needs to understand what he did this time wasn't a small thing. I don't care if his intentions were right or whatever. I told her that I'll make sure he'll be fine but didn't make any promises that I'll talk to him. What she doesn't know won't hurt her!
I knew he was battling his own battles much like I was but that still doesn't give him an excuse to be an ass and then the audacity of him to warn me to stay away from all of the mess made me want to strangle that man for good.
I sighed and typed on my laptop. Currently, it was lunch break and I was making sure that the hotels were booked and I had even printed out the tickets. I even texted my Mom to assure her that everything was fine. She wasn't happy about wherever I was going but Dad handled it. He gave me a stern look and asked me to be careful. I nodded and that was the end of the discussion.
We were leaving in another two hours. A van was loaded with all the things that were required. One of the officers would be driving it along with Suraj and Officer Khan. Yes, Officer Khan was going to be there. Thank god Suraj won't be there in the same car as Veer. I quiver to think as to what would happen if I have to survive an entire car journey with both of them.
"Hey! Want to go get a coffee?" Diya asked interrupted after a few minutes. I shut the laptop and nodded enthusiastically. "Yes, please! Let's go!" We walked towards the cafeteria. It was almost 6 pm and I hadn't seen Veer since the meeting. I'm so happy about that. I hate to admit this but I don't have control over my feelings when he's around me. They're very conflicting. He confuses the hell out of me! The way he behaved made me wonder if we're actually a thing or not! Even thinking about him drives me crazy.
I shook my head trying to clear my head. I don't want to think about this right now. We place our orders and take a seat on the table that was close to the window. "So, what's up? Other than us going to catch a stuck-up terrorist! What are you up to?" Diya asked with an airy voice and I giggled. She was so easy to chat with just like Sheena. That reminds me I haven't spoken to her in a few days. I made a mental note to text her.
The coffee arrived and I shrugged taking a sip of my coffee. "Nope! Nothing at all! My life is as dry as the Sharar Desert!" Except it catches fire when Veer enters! My subconscious mind chided and I rolled my eyes internally. Although I didn't want to admit it loudly. It was the truth. He does that all the fucking time.
Diya sipped her drink and gave me a huge smile. She clicked her tongue and forwarded the cup to clink it with mine. "To being single and lonely!" I laughed but nodded. Well, technically Veer and I didn't tell anyone so I'm still single by all standards. Not to mention the fight has confused me as to where we stand as a couple.
"Seriously though? You don't have a boyfriend? You're really pretty! If I wasn't straight I would definitely tap that ass!" I gulped the coffee and laughed loudly. She laughed as well. I wiped my mouth with a tissue. "Thank you for the compliment but no as of now there are no boyfriends in my life! It's just too Complicated! You know what I mean?"
Diya sipped her coffee and nodded. "True that sister! True that!" I laughed again. We spoke about random things for the next few minutes until Diya asked me the most difficult question. She cleared her throat and I raised my brows. "I made an observation! I mean I could be wrong but I wanted to know! That is if you don't mind what I'm about to ask ?"
"Sure go ahead!" I told her with a shrug. "Is there something going on between you and Veer? Because I sort kind of felt this weird tension! I mean I could be wrong!" I internally groaned and let out a huge sigh. "It's okay if you don't want to answer! I know we just met so you're not obligated to answer! But I was just curious!"
I sighed and shook my head. Diya was a great girl and I usually don't get along with everyone that easily. "It's just that I have known Veer since we were kids and over the years we kind of drifted apart. Now we're working on the same mission, together after a long time. That's probably why it's like that between us!" Technically it wasn't a lie. I just didn't give her the complete truth.
She nodded her head sympathetically. "Ohh I see! That makes sense! Oh crap!" I frowned when she cussed and was staring at something behind me. "Intruder at 12 o clock!" I turned my head to find a very frustrated Veer entering the cafeteria.
Our eyes locked and for a second I felt electricity pass through my body. Then I remembered everything he said and all the secrets that he hid. I sighed and turned to face Diya who had an awkward expression on her face. "Well, that's my queue to leave! See you in a couple of hours!" Diya smiled and nodded.
I paid half for the coffee and left the place. The entire time I felt someone's gaze burning holes in my back, but I didn't turn. He has a problem with me then he needs to fucking talk to me. I'm done making the first move.
***
The next couple of hours passed quickly. We loaded our bags into the car. Veer was driving and I sat far behind. To put some distance between us and to preserve my sanity. I kept myself busy the entire time and so did Veer. We didn't even share glances.
Diya and I chatted for a while and then she went to drive for a few hours. We reached The Grand hotel which the organization had booked for us at 11 pm exactly. The van that had all our ammunition was parked and hidden behind the building.
Diya, Dhwani, and I were asked to share a room. As much as I despised Dhwani I didn't have a choice. Diya and I shared a look. "It's just for the day! We can do this! Just don't argue with her. It makes things a bit harder! Nod away to everything she says." Diya whispered and I gave her a thumbs up.
Much to our surprise Dhwani gave us a nasty look and went to bed after getting changed. We were all tired so after a quick shower and changing into some comfortable clothes I jumped on the single bed falling into a deep slumber.
The next morning I went out for a jog and much to my dismay found Veer jogging shirtless around the hotel garden. What the fuck was his problem? All the ladies and even some men were drooling at him. God! He's so annoying and a cocky bastard.
I know shouldn't be doing what I was going to do but I was just so pissed. Technically he was still my boyfriend right? Fuck, what the hell was going on? Why can't I stick to one thing? I ran towards him and began jogging at his pace, right beside him. "Quick question? Do you have a problem with wearing a T-shirt? Or you just like the attention?"
Veer tilted his head and quirked his eyebrows. I could clearly make out that he was smirking. "I don't understand how it's bothering you! Considering where we stand right now! Who are you to tell me when I should wear a T-shirt and when I shouldn't?"
What the fuck? Was this his way of making me admit that I'm still his girlfriend and the relationship is on? If it is then I ain't taking the bait. Game on Veer Gupta! Let's play! "You're right! Whatever! Do whatever the hell you want! I'm out of here!" I could see him frown. Ha! Take that!
I shrugged and ran faster before he could say anything else. I turned slightly to see him mumbling something under his breath. I was very serious if he wants my apology he better work for it. I'm not doing anything or taking any hints. He needs to speak up.
For the rest of the day, we were left to do whatever we wanted. There were two more hours for us to get to the club. I had already picked out a dress for this thing. Comfortable to kick some ass and also a proper cover-up. A perfect combination indeed.
I wore the dress and gasped when I saw myself in the mirror. I don't remember the last time I admired myself and looked this good. It was a red dress that was longer on one side and shorter on the other. Which was perfect because I needed to hide that gun and a knife that I'll be strapped to my thigh that had the longer side. It was an off-shoulder. A bit bolder than the ones I usually wore.
I strapped the gun to my leg and exited the closet space. Diya was in front of the dressing table. She looked good as well. She was wearing a green dress that went over her knees and Dhwani was wearing a black dress that showed a huge amount of cleavage. She flipped her head and gave me a huge smirk.
I rolled my eyes and put on hoop earrings and brushed my hair that cascaded down my shoulders. "I may be wrong but she did dress up like a hooker!" Diya muttered and brushed her hair. I snorted a laugh and shoved her shoulders. "Don't be rude!" Diya rolled her eyes. "Whatever! She's such a bitch!"
I had to agree there but right now I can't think about all of these petty things. For the next few hours, I needed to focus. Once we were ready all of us gathered in the lobby. The men were in tuxedos. They looked really handsome. They had similar shirts and pants except the bowtie was in different colors.
Veer looked amazing as well. As much as it pained to admit that. I distributed the passes to everyone. Veer raked his eyes down my body and his eyes were fixated on my legs. I swallowed as heat crept between my legs. Sighing I shoved the pass into his face.
He glared at me and snatched it away. "Did you know there are some things called pants?" I scoffed at him and plugged the Bluetooth in my ear. "Really? I didn't know!" Veer rolled his mumbling under his breath he plugged the Bluetooth too.
"Clearly! Since you didn't wear one!" I whipped my head and glared at him. "Shut up Veer! I look fine!" His nose flared and he was about to go off but then it was time for us to go. We had hired a limousine for this. It made us look more believable. We reached the place.
"Okay, team! The time has come! Don't mess it up!" Officer Khan ordered we replied a "Yes Sir!" together. It was really easy to enter the club. The bouncers checked our passes. Ran the metal detector over our body. They couldn't suspect a thing. We all had a repeller attached to us so they couldn't detect our guns.
The club was huge and it looked like everyone here was either rich or they had some dangerous connections. I'm not surprised at all. We were on the second floor. "Spotted the Target! Near the bar and he's talking to Jagan Thapad!" Kabir whispered and I pretend to smile at everyone taking a sip of my drink.
Jagan Thapad was Charlie's right hand and this was going to be perfect if we catch him as well. It'll be like killing two birds with one stone. So perfect! "Copy that!" We all muttered. I narrowed my eyes and I could indeed see both of them.
"Look if we don't want any of the civilians to get hurt one of the girls to go and lure him in! Just like we planned!" I'm going to kick their asses. "Great! I'm going in! Charlie is definitely drunk enough to be distracted!"
Veer sneered at me from the other side. The entire club had blue lighting. There was a huge disco ball above the dancing floor which was jam-packed. Bodies moving against each other more like groping. It was disgusting to watch. People were definitely high and I'm sure some of them are teenagers or college students.
"No Meera! You're not going I think Diya should!" Veer's voice echoed through the earpiece. Like I'm going to listen to that. The original plan was to make it look natural and it looks like Dhwani was already distracting Jagan and Diya seemed to be talking to one of his bodyguards or a goon whoever the fuck that was. Trying to distract him. This was good! That left Charlie alone.
"I'm going in! Dhwani and Diya have done their jobs! Suraj wait for my signal to cut down the power!" I grabbed my clutch that had sleeping pills in it. If everything goes accordingly then there will be no shooting here which would be amazing, but I highly doubt if that will happen.
"Roger that Meera!" Suraj muttered and I nodded. Veer looked like he wanted to leap at me and stop me from going, but that's not happening. He knows better than to do something against official orders. "Going in right now!" I muttered, I took a shot, and taking a deep breath I walked towards where Charlie was now typing away on his phone.
"Everyone take your positions!" Officer Khan instructed. I'm sure he was watching us from that van as he had access to all the CCTV cameras. Time to get this show on the road. I swayed my hips a little more than required and walked towards the couch on which Charlie was seated. He finally moved his eyes from the phone and his gaze fell on me.
He smirked as his eyes moved up and down my body. A chill ran down my spine. I felt disgusting. He bit his lips and winked at me. I smiled at him in a flirty way but I was internally shuddering with disgust. "Get over with this shit Meera! Fast!" Veer growled into the earpiece. God, he was so loud. I needed to be careful.
I sat down next to him and crossed my legs. I forwarded my hand, he smirked and shook it, he even kissed my knuckles. "Well, what do we have here! What's your name foxy?" We what the fuck? Who says foxy? I suppressed the cringe on my face and smiled at him sweetly.
"My name is Victoria! And who are you handsome?" I winked at him. He closed his eyes and threw his head back laughing loudly. Taking the opportunity I slipped a pill into his drink. "My name is Charlie foxy and I'm the owner of this club!" I giggled and squeezed his arm. "Oh, that's such a cool name!"
"Done!" I muttered slowly and smiled at whatever the fuck Charlie was bragging about. He kept glancing at my cleavage and gulped his drink. "For fuck's sake Suraj! Cut the power!" Veer screamed. "I'm trying there's a backup as well! I need to cut that supply too!" Suraj said frantically.
Charlie gripped my hand and swayed on his feet. "Do it fast Suraj! He's going down!" I gritted and smiled at Charlie who smirked. "Yes! So is Jagan! Bastard is heavy!" Dhwani added. "God it! Three two one! Wear the glasses people!" Suraj instructed and I pulled out the night glasses. A few seconds later it was dark. The music was off and people were screaming.
Charlie fell to the floor. "Veer! I need your help!" I said frantically and yanked his body pushing him onto the couch. Charlie mumbled something incoherently and wrapped his arms around my waist. Gross! He squeezed my ass. He wasn't completely unconscious. "I'm coming!" Veer shouted.
A few seconds later Charlie's body was pulled away from mine. Veer held his arm and Charlie frowned swaying a bit. "How many pills did you give him?" I smiled at him nervously and held up one finger. Veer cursed under his breath.
"Meera! He's a huge man! You should have given him at least two!" I shrugged my shoulders. "That was the strongest sleeping pill ever! More than one could kill you!" I argued back and everyone groaned into the earpiece.
"Guys! We have a problem! We need to leave! The bodyguards are all over the place." Karan said, I turned around to find a few men coming our way wearing the same type of glasses that we had on. They spotted us and stalked towards us. "Meera, Veer! Three behind you!"
"Copy that!" I pulled out the gun that was attached to my thigh. I quickly attached the silencer and shot two of them, Veer shot one and he pulled Charlie towards the exit. Kabir had gone over to Dhwani to help her. "I'll cover for you take him!" I shouted and all of a sudden everything turned chaotic.
We still needed to go two floors down. Veer pulled him down the stairs and Charlie tried to fight but it was really sloppy. He was completely out of it. Two more people spotted us at the stairs. One of them lunged at me from behind. I ducked and kicked him with my heels. I shot one more who was behind him.
Veer kicked one of them and shot two more. "Guys! We're out! Jagan is under our custody! We made it to the van! Come fast! We'll try to hold them back but someone's trying to get the power back. You have to get out of there before they find out he's missing!" Kabir shouted.
God, there was still another flight of stairs to get down. Did we take the wrong route? Fuck! One of them manages to cut very close near my scar and I shrieked. It was still a bit sore. Veer shot them before I could. He glanced at me with concerned eyes. "I'm fine. Come on let's go!" I assured him and yanked Charlie.
Together we dragged him down the stairs and finally spotted the back exit door. Karan was standing there. He pulled Charlie's body towards the van dumping him next to Jagan whose mouth was plastered and his hands were handcuffed. He did the same with Charlie. He struggled but there was nothing he could do.
"We need to get out of here before his men hunt us down! Everyone, to the cars! We'll regroup at the headquarters." Officer Khan commanded. Veer pressed a handkerchief against my wound and shook his head. We ran to the cars that were parked for us. A few men began shooting at us. Fuck! We can't even catch a break!
Veer screamed in pain as a bullet shot his left arm. I gasped and shot the man who had his gun pointed at him. "Are you okay?" I asked him and he groaned in pain. He pressed onto his wound to stop it from bleeding. I unlocked the car. We were the last ones to leave. They found us first as we were close to the exit door.
Veer shut the door and his face was sweating profusely. I need to take him to the hospital as soon as possible. "Meera! Take him to the nearest military hospital! Come to the headquarters here once his injury is treated!" Officer Khan ordered. "Right Sir!"
"Meanwhile we'll take these bastards and give them the royal treatment that they deserve!" I wanted to laugh at his sarcasm but I muttered another yes and cut the call. Gosh, that was stressful. "Are you okay?" Veer asked and hissed in pain.
I had to stop the car since it a red signal. I glanced at him and let out a laugh. "I'm supposed to be asking that considering you're the one bleeding and took a bullet for me!" He could have just called for me and I would have shot that bastard or ducked. He removed the jacket and his white shirt was coated with blood.
"He was about to shoot you and I always protect my teammates! No matter what!" I rolled my eyes and pressed on the accelerator. Always the snarky one. "I meant if you would have communicated! This could have been avoided!" Veer scoffed and groaned.
"I don't want to talk about this right now!" I let out a huge breath and shook my head, my patience was thinning. Twenty minutes later and after breaking several traffic rules we were finally at the hospital. We showed them our identities and that was it. We were taken to a room.
Veer was made to sit on the cot while I sat on one of the chairs. He refused to take anesthesia. "Captian Veer! It's going to hurt if you don't take anesthesia!" I frowned and walked towards him after the nurse had tended to my injuries.
"What the hell is wrong with you? Take the anesthesia!" I screamed at him. Veer glared back and shook his head. "I don't like the way it makes me feel! Doctor, just pull it out!" I gritted my teeth but didn't argue further because that would only make things worse for him.
He is so hard-headed. I wonder why he didn't want to take anesthesia? One more of his many secrets. When will this end? I'm on the verge of going away from him. I hope he doesn't push me further and I hope I don't run away far, so far that I'll never be able to come back.
The doctor pulled it out and Veer flinched in pain. I hissed and I could see him clenching his fists so hard that I'm sure he was digging his nails into his palms. He bit his lips and controlled his pain. The bullet was out and the doctor stitched it up.
"At least take a pain killer you should feel better." The doctor instructed and Veer nodded with a grunt. Typical Veer. Always throwing a tantrum. The nurse handed him a pain killer and he swallowed it without arguing. "Let's go! Officer Khan must be waiting for us!"
I nodded and walked towards the exit but Veer yanked me towards his chest. "W-what?" I stuttered, trying to catch my breath. He didn't answer instead he pushed the hair away from my shoulders and traced the bandage. Shivers ran down my body. "Are you okay?" I nodded and gulped. He leaned forward and pressed his lips against the bandage for a few minutes and exited the room. I stood there for a few more seconds, trying to catch my breath. Why does he make it so hard to stay mad at him?
