I woke up with a smile on my face but felt myself frown when the spot beside me was cold meaning Norman had been out of the bed for a while. I sighed and slid a hoodie over my head before putting my hair up in a messy bun. A note on our dresser caught my eye.

Hi babe!

Hopefully by the time you

Read this you'll be able to

Come out of the bedroom.

If not, looks like you'll have

To sit in there just a little bit

Longer until I'm ready for you

To come out! I have a surprise

For you! But you have to be patient

Because Mingus Brynlee and I are

Norman

I sighed and placed the note back on the dresser before placing my hand on the doorknob and twisted it to only find out that it was locked from the outside. I went back and flopped on the bed. That meant Norman and Mingus were still setting up whatever it was.

It seemed like forever before I finally heard the door unlock and then squeak open. I sat up a little and looked to see Norman leaning against the doorway. "Good morning, beautiful," he said softly. I smiled up at him as he shut the door behind him and walked over to me.

I giggled as he collapsed on top of me but caught himself with his hands. "I love you," Norman mumbled before connecting his lips to mine. I sighed as I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him into me more. Norman slowly pulled back and rested his forehead against mine.

"Happy Valentine's Day," Norman said softly. I smiled a little. "Yeah you too," I said. Norman pulled back completely and got off the bed before offering me his hands. I gladly took them and he pulled me off the bed. "I have a surprise for you," he whispered as his arms slipped around my waist.

I leaned back into him and glanced over my shoulder so I could seed him. "Oh yeah, and what is it?" I asked him. He gave me a small smile. "You'll have to see and Mingus has a surprise for the both of us," he said. I cocked an eyebrow with an amused look on my face.

"Any idea as to what it could be?" I asked him and Norman shook his head. "I have no clue. He hasn't said anything about it. He said he was waiting until after you got up and I showed you my surprise," he said. I nodded and started to head out the bedroom door.

"Well then let's go," I said. Norman chuckled and one of his hands came up and covered my eyes so I couldn't see. "Norman," I groaned upset that he was doing this. Norman's chuckle echoed through my ears and I relaxed a little. I couldn't hate surprises when he did them.

Norman stopped and I assumed that we were in the living room now. "Ready?" Norman whispered in my ear. I bit my lip and nodded. Norman uncovered my eyes and I felt myself sucking in a sharp breath. The whole living room was covered in paper hearts hanging from the ceiling.

There were rose pedals littered across the tables and I felt myself smiling the more I looked around the room. Then something else caught my eye. Brynlee was over by the couch and she was....swinging? I felt the confusion written across my face until I got a closer look.

Norman and Mingus had somehow hung a baby swing from the ceiling and Brynlee was steadily swinging and giggling in it. I turned around to face Norman. "You did all of this?" I asked a little shocked. He had never made this big of a deal out of Valentine's Day.

Norman nodded. "Well, Mingus helped. But its Brynlee's first Valentine's Day too," he said. I couldn't help the smile that came on my face. "I love it," I said while hugging him. I pulled back and went to hug Mingus to see he was grabbing Brynlee from her swing.

I chuckled when I saw her wearing wings on her back. "Our own personal Cupid," Norman said as he took Brynlee from Mingus. I chuckled as I wrapped my arms around Mingus giving him a hug. I pulled back and Norman directed me towards the kitchen.

After a breakfast that consisted of heart shaped everything we were sitting in the living room again with Brynlee in her swing enjoying the quietness between all of us. Except for Brynlee that is. She was steadily swinging and giggling while hitting the swing with her hands.

"So I have something for you guys," Mingus said as he sat his empty coffee cup on the table. Norman's arm was wrapped around my shoulders. He looked down at me and I cocked an eyebrow before we both looked at Mingus. "What's up?" Norman asked him.

Mingus bounced his leg nervously and wrung his hands in his lap. "What is it?" I asked him wondering why he became nervous all the sudden. "I want both of you to have an open mind about this," Mingus said slowly. Norman and I looked at each other again now both confused.

"Okay," I said slowly. Mingus gave us a small smile. "I want the two of you to go out tonight," Mingus said. I felt myself bite my lip. "What?" Norman asked from behind me. Mingus looked past me and I knew he was looking Norman dead in the eye.

"I want you and Mandy to go out tonight and celebrate Valentine's Day and being together for three years," Mingus said while standing up. I looked at Norman who had a slightly shocked look on his face. "What about you?" Norman asked and I held in my silent laughter.

We both knew Mingus didn't have any plans on Valentine's Day. It was hard enough for him to find a girlfriend that didn't like him just because of who his dad was. Mingus looked back at Norman and smiled a little before turning his attention back to Brynlee.

He pushed her gently on the swing and Brynlee clapped her hands. "That's okay," he said softly before stopping Brynlee's swing and kissing her on the forehead. "I already have my Valentine," he continued. I felt my heart melt at that comment as Mingus caressed Brynlee's cheek.

Norman squeezed my shoulders as if feeling the same thing. I looked up at Norman who was looking down at me. "What do you think?" I asked him. Norman bit his lip and looked back over at Mingus who was now playing with Brynlee as she tried to grab his hair.

Norman looked back down at me and gave me a slight nod. "Only if you think you can handle her, Boom," Norman said without taking his eyes off me. Mingus chuckled. "I'm not a little kid anymore, Dad. It isn't fair to you guys that you don't get to celebrate just because you have a baby," he said.

I watched as Norman's eyes glazed over a little before he unwrapped his arm from me and stood up. He walked over to Mingus and wrapped his arms around him. "Since when did you grow up?" he asked Mingus rhetorically causing Mingus to chuckle again.

Norman offered me a hand and I gladly took it. "Where do you want to go babe?" Norman asked me. I gave him a small smile. "I really don't care," I said. Norman squeezed my hand. "Then let's just go all over the place," he said and I couldn't help but chuckle.

I looked up at the clock to see that it was almost two in the afternoon. "We should probably start getting ready then," I said. Norman nodded and pulled me towards the bedroom but I stopped and removed my hands from Norman's. He gave me a confused look.

I shook my head and walked over to Mingus. I wrapped my arms around him in a tight hug. "Thank you," I whispered softly. Mingus wrapped his arms around me in a tight hug too. "It's no problem. Gives me a chance to bond with Brynlee and let her know the ground rules for dating," he said.

I barked with laughter at that as I pulled back and patted his shoulder while teasingly rolling my eyes. "You are definitely your father's son," I said before trotting back over to Norman and taking his hand so we could go get ready for our Valentine's three year anniversary date.

How cute are Norman and Mingus covering the whole house and mounting a baby swing from the ceiling for Brynlee to play in? And how precious is Mingus for giving Mandy and Norman the gift of being able to spend time together without Brynlee? And how about Mingus saying Brynlee was his Valentine!! Ahhh! This chapter was just full of cute!
