Chapter 4

The rest of the night went by pretty well actually. Norman and I got to know each other a little better while Mingus and Jordan did whatever they do. It's funny; sometimes I think my brother acts more like a kid than what Mingus did. Now it was the next day and I had nothing to do.

I spent most of the night thinking about both Chase and Norman and I had barely gotten any sleep. It was weird to think about it. Chase and I were inseparable. He was the one that broke me out of my shell. He was the one that started my partying and drinking and my "bad" image.

Then there was Norman, my brother's best friend. I wasn't even sure if I had feelings for him. Though every time he was around I felt like a girl that had a high school crush all over again. He made me feel all giddy and weird in a good way. He was easy to talk to and we had a lot more in common than what Chase and I did. I couldn't just drop Chase like that, could I?

I shook my head and picked my phone up and texted the only two people I knew could help me through this, Morgan and Stacey. "Skype date?" I hit send and I automatically got a response from Stacey. "When?!" I chuckled when my phone beeped and Morgan replied: "Now!" I grabbed my laptop and went into the living room.

"Hey Jordan, I'm heading down to the bar so I can get on the computer," Jordan just waved a hand at me. Well then someone is not a morning person. I quickly left the apartment complex and heading to the bar. I flipped on a light and sat up on the barstool. Turning on my laptop a Skype request popped up. I accepted it and my screen was suddenly filled with Stacey and Morgan.

"Babe!" Stacey said. That caused both Morgan and I to chuckle. "Hey darlings!" I said. "Heeeeeey," Morgan smiled wide. I quickly reached over the bar and popped a cap on a beer and took a drink. "Woah, I didn't know that this Skype date called for alcohol," Morgan said.

I almost spewed beer out of my nose from laughing. "In my case it does," Morgan and Stacey's faces automatically fell. "What's wrong, babe?" Stacey asked a little concerned. I sighed and ran a hand over my face. "Just stuff," I said. "And things," Morgan said causing Stacey to laugh.

Apparently I missed something. They both just shook their heads and laughed at my confused face. "Just TWD stuff," Morgan said. "And things," Stacey repeated after Morgan causing both of them to laugh again. I couldn't help but laugh at how crazy they sounded right now.

"Anyway," Morgan said slightly composing herself. Stacey was still in a fit of giggles. "There's a reason for this chat," Morgan said trying to be serious, but it wasn't working. I rolled my eyes at the two girls. This was definitely normal for them to act this way.

Stacey sat up straight and tried to look all proper, which just made me roll my eyes on natural reflex. "So," Stacey said while dragging out the 'o.' "To what do we owe this joyous occasion?" Morgan asked. I chuckled. "Jeez can't a girl skype with her two besties without having a reason?" I arched an eyebrow. They were always nosy.

"Nope!" Morgan and Stacey said at the same time. "Spill girl," Stacey said. I looked down at the beer in my hand and took another long swig before looking back at them. At this point they were wrapped around my finger trying to figure out what was going on.

"I'm thinking about breaking up with Chase," I said. Both their eyes became wide. "What?! Why?!" came from both of them. I ran a hand through my hair. "I'm just not that into him," I said. Honestly I was just confused about Chase and Norman and I didn't want to mess with either of their feelings.

Stacey crossed her arms and arched an eyebrow at me. "There's no way! You moped for two weeks when you decided that you were moving! You said you didn't want to be away from him, but you guys could work through a long distance relationship," Morgan looked like she could come through my computer screen at any moment.

I ran my finger around the rim on the bottle. I looked back up Stacey was still in her same position like she didn't believe me and Morgan looked so confused. I sighed again. It seemed like I was doing that a lot lately. "I know," I said quietly, "I'm just not feeling it anymore."

I pinched the bridge of my nose. "Maybe moving away gave me a sense of freedom and I wasn't constantly in Chase's shadow. Maybe I finally feel like I can be me without Chase breathing down my neck about embarrassing him or something! I don't know! I just don't feel it anymore," at this point I was beyond flustered.

I looked back at Morgan and Stacey on the screen. Morgan was just nodding her head like she was understanding, but Stacey still looked like she didn't believe me. "I mean. I guess. If that's what you want. I'll sup-, Morgan was abruptly cut off by Stacey freaking out.

I heard a crash and her camera was completely black but I could still hear here freaking out. "Oh my God! There is no way in hell! No this is happening!" Morgan and I looked at each other. "Stacey...Stacey.....STACEY!" Morgan and I screamed at the same time.

The camera suddenly came back on. Stacey was lying upside down on her bed and she had this huge goofy grin on her face. Morgan and I busted up laughing while Stacey stayed like she was. She finally decided to flip herself upright but still had the grin on her face.

"Use your words, Stace," Morgan said. Stacey clapped her excitedly and bounced up and down. "You," she said pointing at who I knew was me, "are crushing on Norman!" she clapped her hands again like she had just won the prize. Now Morgan looked really confused.

"Stacey, more than half of the girl population has a crush on Norman," Stacey's face instantly fell. "You haven't told her?!" Stacey practically screamed at me. I shook my head. "Wait, told me what?! I wanna know! I'm so confused!" I looked at Morgan who was freaking out now.

"Norman is best friends with Mandy's brother!" Stacey blurted out. Morgan's eyes became very wide. "WHAT?! How come you didn't tell me about this?!" Morgan screamed. Now they were both going nuts and waiting on some sort of an explanation.

I shrugged. "Stacey knew. I figured she'd pass the information along seeing as she can't keep her mouth shut about Norman!" this cause Morgan to laugh and Stacey scowled. "I'm sorry," I held my hands up, "that was a low blow," but I couldn't help but smirk.

Suddenly Stacey and Morgan froze. At first I thought it was my computer until I could see they were both breathing and then both of them had big grins on their face. I guess it was my turn to be confused. Then they both pointed. That's when I noticed a person in the background of my camera.

I swiveled around in the barstool to see Norman standing in the entrance of the bar with his hands in his pockets. I turned back around to Stacey and Morgan who I swear were drooling at this point or they were in shock. "We'll talk later," I said quickly. "But!" they both exclaimed at the same time but I quickly hit the exit button and turned around to Norman.

"How long have you been standing there?" I asked slowly, praying that Norman hadn't heard what Stacey had said. He shrugged a little. "Not long." Okay so if he had heard what Stacey said he was doing a good job of hiding it. I motioned to the barstool beside me and he sat down.

"I didn't mean to just come on in," he started. "But?" I questioned. "Wait, let me guess," I said while taking another swig of my beer. "You thought someone had broken into the bar so you decided to play hero and see what was going on?" I asked him while smirking playfully. Norman chuckled a little bit.

"Something like that. I guess I'm still getting used to you being here. It was always Jordan and me," he said. "Oh now so you don't like me being here," I was totally messing with him but by the look on his face I could tell he hadn't quite caught on.

"I didn't say that," he said defending himself. I chuckled. "What's so funny?" he asked. "I was kidding," I said. I heard a giggle escape from me. Giggle? A giggle, really? Norman smirked a little. I jumped over the bar not even bothering to walk around it.

I popped a cap off another beer and sat it in front of Norman. "Trying to get me drunk?" he questioned. I chuckled and grabbed mine and held it up to him. "Nope, courtesy of my brother," I said while tipping my bottle towards his. He smiled and clinked his bottle with mine.

Jordan walked in the door not even 10 minutes later. "Hey guys," I smiled at Jordan and Norman nodded. Jordan stood behind the bar and started setting up for the night. Norman quickly finished his beer and stood up. I cocked an eyebrow at him. "I'll be back later," he said directed towards both Jordan and I. We both nodded. Norman looked me. "Promise."

~~

And promise he did. Norman came back about an hour before closing and sat in the same exact spot where I saw him the first time. He smiled and nodded at me as a greeting and accepted a beer from Jordan. The night actually seemed to go by pretty fast.

Now Jordan and I were cleaning up and once again Norman stayed after closing. It was quiet between us again. Jordan came over and tossed the keys to me. "Can you lock up tonight?" he asked while grabbing his jacket. I nodded and he left. Now it was just Norman and I.

This was only the second time we had been left alone and honestly it was still a little awkward. I was now finished cleaning up. All I had to do was lock the door when Norman left. Norman sipped the rest of the beer and slid the empty bottle down the bar where I grabbed it.

He stepped away from the bar and came around to where I was. I slid my jacket on figuring I would just follow him out. "Hey Mandy," I turned around to see him leaning against the bar. "What's up?" I asked. Norman pushed his hair out of his face with the back of his hand.

"I have a uh movie upstairs and uh it would uh be better to watch it with someone," I could tell he was nervous and was trying to find the right words. "Sure Norman I'd love too," I said smiling at him. He smiled and I swear I saw a sigh of relief. "Cool," he said and I followed him out.
