Luckily this was a big house, with lots of bedrooms and it wasn't any problem to lodge everybody in. At least that's what I imagined happened, since everyone were still in the house when we got downstairs the morning after. It felt a bit awkward though; spending the night together, with all those conflicts going on between the guys. I guess Elena didn't sleep well at all; she had black circles under her eyes the following morning.
I sat in the parlour with Damon by my side as I now had gotten used to and glared a little at the glasses of blood people were sipping around us, when the door opened and Katherine walked in.
"Ever heard of knocking?" Damon slapped down.
"I told you I was coming," she answered with a confident smile and Damon smirked. I realized that they could have conversations I would never hear even if I was right next to Damon. A sting of jealousy pained me and I reminded myself that I was the one who didn't belong here.
I heard footsteps down the hallway who abruptly stopped. "Katerina?" Elijah breathed stunned with an eastern European accent.
Katherine spun around and looked at him with huge eyes and almost blushed. "My L..."
Was she about to call him My Lord? Or was that My Love? I wondered and searched my mind for the last time I had seen them together on my TV.
"Elijah," Katherine said respectfully and looked like she was about to curtsy. We all stared at her as if she was a complete stranger.
"I have not seen you since..." Elijah's voice was filled with pain. They kept looking at each other.
"Katerina." Klaus came walking along the hallway, Katherine whipped her head around and gasped when she realized who it was.
In an instant Elijah had twirled her around and was now standing in front of her in a very protective manner. "Niklaus," he said cold.
Klaus just smiled. "Oh, lighten up," he said irritated and walked right past them.
Katherine took a seat on the couch opposite where Damon and I sat, and I felt very self-conscious as she was curiously scrutinizing me. My skin started to crawl, but Damon found a way to distract us both.
"So if you're the first Petrova doppelganger and Elena's the second, who is the original Petrova?" He asked Katherine the question I was trying to get an answer to.
"It's... complicated." She used her usual way to dodge the matter in an attempt to avoid the subject.
"So uncomplicate it then!" Damon snorted.
Elijah sat suddenly by her side. "Maybe I can be of some assistance? Since Katerina never met her, it could be hard for her to talk about my sister."
I gasped and Damon looked like he got struck by lightning. "Sister?!"
"Tatia wasn't brought up with us, and we didn't know about her existence until we were older." Elijah shrugged. "It is complicated." We just stared at him. "She was being brought up by the witches, her being my mother's daughter, she had the powers." He smiled at our dumbstruck faces.
"So Klaus was supposed to sacrifice his own sister to become a hybrid?" I said thoughtfully.
"Yes." Klaus was suddenly by my side. I shuddered. "Tatia was my only sibling, same mother and same father."
"Was? You killed her too, like your mother?" The always provocative Damon asked.
"I did not kill her; Tatia's blood was mixed with wine the night Mikael killed us." Klaus face became fierce in an instant and his eyes glowed yellow. "Mikael did it, and I finally killed him for it." Klaus' voice was full of hate as he spoke of his stepfather.
"What about the cavemen-graffiti?" Damon snorted.
"Show some respect for the elders, boy!" Elijah's voice was very authoritarian all of a sudden. "We have had this talk before, haven't we?"
"Sorry," Damon said with a shrug and his signature 'what-do-I-care' face.
Klaus kept telling us that Mikael was the one responsible for everyones death, despite the cave paintings. "Stop accusing me until you come up with a legitime witness."
I was suddenly in awe by the thought that these people in front of me lived in the first millennia. "You lived in the iron-age?" I blurted out.
Elijah was first baffled but then smiled patiently. "Are you insinuating that I'm old?" His whole face beamed with suppressed laughter.
"I'm sorry; I didn't mean to be disrespectful," I hurried guilty; I was just so amazed by the thought.
"Yes, we were Vikings," he whispered, smiling at me. "Norrœnir men..."
"Från norden..." I repeated with a smile spreading on my face.
He looked curious at me. "And you are from Scandinavia as well, I can hear."
The other just silently observed us, until Klaus interrupted. "So since little sis wasn't living with us, she was never killed by Mikael, to live life as a monster." His voice seeped with selfloathing.
No one knew what to say after that.
"Tatia and I met and neither of us knew that we were siblings. We were attracted to each other and were dismayed when the witches told us about our relationship." Elijahs eyes told us he was reminiscing a time long ago, before he cleared his throat. "So I was blown away when I saw this lovely Katerina, half a milennium after." He smiled at her.
"Talking about dear sis', weren't you friends with Rebekah?" Klaus interrupted the emotional moment. "She's still not answering my calls."
"You want me to call your sister?" I asked surprised even though he said it a moment ago.
"Well, according to Elena she comes when you call."
"Wow," I just said and dialled her number.
The line cracked and a bored voice said: "Who am I supposed to apologise to now?" she answered without any furter politeness.
I laughed. "Hi Becca, was I rough on you?" She just snorted. "Well here's just someone who want to say hello to you; your brother."
"Klaus want to say hello? You can tell him to go screw himself!"
"I'd love to, but it's actually Elijah who wants to meet you." My eyes were locked on Elijah as I spoke of him. She said nothing. I waited patiently but finally I ordered her, again. "Just bite the bullet and get over here!"
"I think she really doesn't want to meet you," I said frankly to Klaus. "How many times did you dagger her?"
Katherine and Elijah gasped and Klaus squinted his eyes. "Didn't I make you bleed yesterday," he asked venomous.
I almost barfed. "Don't remind me." I had to concentrate not to think about the horrible smell. I thought it was kind of funny long afterwards though, that I never thought about the pain, but it was the smell that made my whole body go numb.
When I glanced at Damon he was smirking. "Oh I was just thinking about respect for the older guys and all that," he explained when I gave him a questioning look.
"I'm sorry," I said with a fake polite tone to Klaus. "I didn't mean to be rude, I just asked how many times you daggered her?"
This time Klaus didn't really squint his eyes at me, but he didn't smile either. He just tilted his head to the side.
That must have been his most vicious look.
Luckily this was the moment Rebekah showed up. Stefan and Elena walked in the door just the same time Rebekah just appeared. There were some tensions, but Rebekah nodded at Elena and walked straight up to Elijah and hugged him. "Elijah!"
"It is so nice to see you sister, it has been too long."
"Well, I have been a bit tied up..." She smiled at him. "And so have you, I've heard."
"Yes, and you have been misinformed, sis'. I did not kill our mother." Klaus showed up and now I felt like maybe we should leave the three of them alone with their arguments. To tell the truth it was intimidating to be in the house with all of these powerful vampires, with a long lasting family feud going on. Rebekah was looking at Klaus with a face that took the phrase 'if looks could kill' to a whole different level.
"I think we could need a little time to discuss this in private," Elijah interfered and the three of them went out to the back yard to continue.
