|Chapter 11| Stealing Generals

Thanks to TheMinecraftDragons for coming up with how this chapter might start XD

Also, Wattpad's been stuck with me for four years, how did that happen?

The guards at the gate of the army base nearly had a heart attack as Herobrine seemingly appeared out of nowhere to stand still and silently out the front of the gate, dusting himself off a little, the sunlight reflecting off the long, sheathed sword on his back but casting a shadow over the dagger nestled at the top of his boot. Whispers instantly broke out about dark teleportation magic yet in truth, Herobrine had merely sprinted at nearly top speed before sliding to a stop, but of course, the eyesight of the recruits was nowhere near good enough to know this.

Herobrine waited patiently while everyone milled about in confusion for a while until a squad of seven guards finally stepped out of the gate and approached him, each carrying a shield held out in front of them, a spear in their right hand and a sheathed sword at their left hip.

"State your business!" the recruit at the front said, wearing a more ornate chestplate than his fellows, his voice brisk and business-like but with a tiny tremor of fear in it.

"I need to meet with your generals immediately, it's very important," Herobrine said, standing with his hands behind his back.

"And what are you going to talk to them about?"

"That is between me and them. Will you let me in?"

"Yeah, I'm afraid not," the recruit said, starting to feel a little braver as Herobrine made no move to attack. "We don't allow just anyone to waltz into a meeting with the generals, especially not-" he quickly cut off what he was going to say and after a moment, replaced it with "strangers, not strangers."

Herobrine put a great deal of effort into keeping his facial expression neutral because he was fairly sure that the man had just been about to say "especially not people like you", probably referring to his glowing eyes. But he let it drop either way and replied "Your generals know me and they are expecting me to meet with them."

""Do you have anything to prove that?"

"What do you want me to give to prove it?" Herobrine asked, anger starting to grow in his voice. "I'm only standing here and waiting because I figured it would be politer and easier for you. But if you're going to cause a scene, I'll just jump the wall and find them myself."

"Woah woah hey, you can't do that," the recruit started to splutter but Herobrine was already shrugging and taking a few steps back, preparing to jump.

"General Ty is in a meeting with the Captain of the Guard," a different recruit said, stopping both of them in their tracks. He sounded younger than the first recruit, but somehow he seemed a lot more reliable and decent as he looked at Herobrine. "I can get him and bring him here if you promise to wait here, Mr Herobrine."

Herobrine gave a nod. "Sounds good. But make it quick."

The second recruit gave a nod and sprinted off, leaving Herobrine and the remaining recruits in an uneasy silence which neither party made any move to break until the recruit came back with General Ty walking beside him.

"That bad, huh?" the general asked with a raised eyebrow. "You couldn't even send a magical note saying that you were coming?"

"I had no time, I came as fast as I could."

General Ty sighed but gave a nod to the guards. "He's fine, let him in."

The recruits gave a salute and Herobrine walked forward, keeping stride with the General as they walked up the main street of the base towards the castle. Nearly everyone they passed gave the legend a double glance and skirted around them, whispering among each other and casting conspiratory glaces, although no one spoke or made a move against him since General Ty was walking with him.

"Things are tense around here, in case you haven't noticed," Ty said quietly, noting the movements of the people. "You might not want to hang around in public too much otherwise we're going to have a revolt on our hands."

"I don't get why they would revolt," Herobrine said as they entered the castle and quickly bypassed the more populated areas to reach the quieter section reserved for meetings. "People didn't freak out last time I was here."

"Well last time there was so much happening at once that people didn't have any hope of comprehending, so they didn't bother," a new voice said. The two men turned to see Quentin approaching from behind them, his hands in his pockets. "The last time you visited, we had half the base on fire, magic flying every which way, half of our generals out of action, and you were gone almost as fast as you appeared. This time though, we've got rumours of people like you flying around and everyone's feeling the threat of a fight, so people are taking things a little closer to heart."

"Well I hate to tell you guys, but that threat isn't a rumour."

"You followed up on Lord Dan's lead?"

Herobrine gave a single nod. "I'll explain once everyone is gathered, I don't want to have to repeat myself."

Ty glanced at Quentin, who shrugged his shoulders. "Guess I'll round up everyone we need. This has got to be a new record for the most number of meetings we've held in a month."

It took time, as all unplanned meetings do, for everyone to gather in the appropriate room on the lower level of the castle and because this was a meeting of war, more people were needed, so it took even longer. As he waited, Herobrine leaned against the wall of the room near the door, his arms crossed loosely over his chest, and watched as the room slowly filled up, most people not spotting him on the way in and then doing a double take as they took their place around the table.

"Alright, things are bad," he said as soon as the last person, Senior Commander Jess, entered the room and closed the door behind her.

"Bad enough to call a full war council?" Jerome asked, looking around at those gathered. "Why am I not surprised?"

"That tip off we got from Lord David," Herobrine continued, ignoring Jerome's comment, "about the creatures that were six feet tall? He's not lying, there are thousands of them, all in military formation, and their numbers grew by another hundred in the hour I watched them. There's already enough to take down an army or two, easily. And they answer to Entity."

"You've got to be kidding me," Ian said.

"I never kid about war," Herobrine said in a low, even tone.

"Yet according to the legends, you've started several," Senior Commander Ross said, leaning forward a little. Herobrine stared at him, unmoving and unblinking. Ross stared at him back but he was clearly unnerved.

"Alright alright, let's settle here," Jason said as tension in the room started to rise. He shot a glare at Ross before speaking. "Herobrine, are you sure that this is an army and that it is commanded by Entity and Dreadlord?"

"Absolutely certain. One million percent. I'm willing to bet my sword and my right arm on it."

"It mights nots be war," Senior Commander Barney said, always recognisable due to his accent. "These men mights be here for anothers reason."

"Do you want to wait until they attack first?" Herobrine asked. "Because their first attack will wipe out an army and everyone in it."

There was a moment of silence as everyone took this in, each lost in their own thoughts of a future where an army is wiped out. It's true that their world was one of constant change and war, even if that had dramatically decreased in the past years, and that armies were rising and falling at a decent rate. But while armies had been defeated, vast majorities of its warriors simply moved on and were absorbed into other armies. No army had been completely destroyed.

"So what do you think we should do?" Adam asked finally.

Herobrine gave him a small nod in recognition of the unspoken meaning behind the general's words. "Contact every army you can. Call your allies to gather at this base, and see if you can convince the other armies to come as well. But if they don't want to come then don't force them, just warn them. With any luck, we'll be able to get a few allies on our side."

"And should we mention you?" Senior Commander Red asked.

"Probably not, but it's not something we're going to be able to keep a secret for long. We need the trust of all of our allies."

"Jess, Red, start organising groups to travel to the armies," Ty ordered. "Ross, get the stables ready, we're going to have a lot more horses staying over. Barney, inform the guards and recruits. The rest of us-" here he nodded his head towards the other generals "- will throw something together and organise... whatever needs to be organised I guess."

Jason shook his head. "There's a lot to do, we'd better get started."

"Not you though," Herobrine said, pointing to Adam. "You're coming with me."

"Uhhh okay, but to where?" Adam asked as Herobrine turned to leave. "And why?"

"We're going to check up on my wife and her army, and then visit my brother to explain to him why he should help us and to stop him from freaking out when he sees you with your glowing eyes."

"Wait, your brother?" Mitch says with a confused frown.

"Yeah." Herobrine turned and gave them a grin while walking backwards. "You know that I'm not a myth, what makes you think that Notch would be one?"
