Chapter 4
"Did I... do something wrong...?" Keith was becoming uncomfortable, as they all continued to stare at him.
"Of course not." Hunk assured, "We're just... surprised..."
Allura sat back down with tears him her eyes. "When we took off his armor... the marks are everywhere. Burn marks, ones that looked like they came from a blade, and ones I couldn't even imagine where they came from..."
"Are we sure they aren't like, left over from battles?" Lance asked hopefully. "Like, maybe the energy didn't completely de-age him?"
Shiro thought for a moment, "Keith, can you roll up your left sleeve a little bit more?" he obediently did as he asked. "Pidge, does he have a scar on his left elbow?"
Keith held his arm out to her, and she looked. "No, he doesn't..."
They all watched Shiro as he went quiet. "When Keith was 13... he tried to climb this tree outside my office at the Garrison. He wanted to try and scare me. Which he did, by falling out of the tree. I had to take him to the hospital. He had to get seven stitches put into his elbow. He still has the scar."
"So, all of these scars..." Coran began in horror.
"Happened when Keith was a kid..." Shiro finished. "I... when I first met him, he always wore long sleeves and jeans. Then by the time he was older, I figured any scars I saw came from him getting into a fight, or from training. I never thought..."
"Hey man... you can't blame yourself..." Lance patted him on the back.
"Keith?" Allura looked down at him, "Can you tell us where you got those injuries?"
His eyes widened, and he violently shook his head.
"Hey, it's ok." Hunk told him gently, "You can tell us."
Tears were welling up in his eyes again. "N-no... I can't..."
"Why not?" Coran asked with a frown.
"I'm... not supposed to..." he practically whispered.
Their panic skyrocketed. "Why aren't you supposed to tell us?" Pidge asked.
"Because... then I'll... get in trouble..." he looked like he was on the verge of tears again.
"It's alright..." Allura gently ran a hand through his hair. She was thankful to see that he didn't flinch away this time. "You don't have to tell us if you don't want to. But just know that you can if you want to. Ok?"
"Ok... Allura..." he added hesitantly, and she smiled at him.
Suddenly, a low rumble came from the couch. "Was that your stomach growling?" She teased gently, and he blushed.
"Are you hungry?" Shiro asked. Keith didn't answer, but his stomach took that opportunity to answer for him.
"You could have just said you wanted something to eat," Lance told him, but he seemed confused by that idea.
"Come on," Hunk stood up, "Everyone head to the dining room, and I'll whip us up something for lunch."
Keith followed Allura into the large dining room and set down quietly with his hands in his lap. They all gave each other concerned glances. It seemed that they were finding out many secrets that Keith had been keeping from them. They just hoped that they would be able to get to the bottom of things so that they could better help their friend.
