"Laxus? How much do you remember about last night?" I asked. I struggled to keep my face from flushing as Bixlow started snickering. I could tell that he remembered, very well, what had happened last night.
"Not much," Laxus responded, "I only remember a few bits and pieces of what happened after we got back from our mission. Why? Did something happen?"
"Um, about that..." I began, "You, um, you got drunk last night and did some thing that you should probably hear from me before you hear it from anyone else."
Bixlow couldn't suppress it any longer and burst out laughing. When he calmed down enough to speak his voice shook and he couldn't keep the grin off his face, "I'm gonna go check on Ever. You kids behave yourselves."
Bixlow's laughter could still be heard from the hall before he moved from earshot. I took a deep breath before telling Laxus exactly what had happened the night before.
It was Bixlow's fault. If he hadn't let Laxus have that last drink, this wouldn't have happened. Which is part of the reason he found the situation so funny. Of course, the first time I witnessed a drunk Laxus I had also found it funny. Even someone as serious as myself would have had a hard time seeing it as anything but amusing.
Imagine all of the stereotypes about drunk people. Now imagine them combined. That's Laxus when drunk. He is just as unpredictable as lightning itself.
After a few times it becomes less amusing and more frustrating. He is just as controllable as he is predictable. Trying to prevent the drunk Laxus from doing something he will regret when he sobers up, is challenging.
Bixlow has given a separate name to Laxus' drunken state, Live Wire. I must admit that it is a fitting name, as you never know when a live wire will shock you, the same is true for drunken Laxus.
After the Thunder Legion came back from a job, hunting a large group of incredibly rare and dangerous monster that had been terrorizing a small village, we decided to hit a tavern. Bad idea number one. Bixlow, Laxus, and Evergreen outvoted me against my protests and warnings.
Knowing that there was no telling what Laxus would do while drunk, I decided to tag along to try to prevent Laxus, or rather, Live Wire, from doing anything reckless. There were two of our fellow guild members at the tavern when we got there, Cana and Elfman. Luckily, the most embarrassing part happened when we got back to our apartment.
After about an hour Elfman left, soon after that Ever also decided to leave. Bixlow and I are almost certain that her disappearance was directly related to Elfman's. Bad idea number two. It would have been much easier to handle Live Wire with her helping as well.
I refused to consume even a drop of alcohol so I would be able to handle Laxus. But eventually, I had to use the bathroom. Bad idea number three. Before I left I told the bartender not to give Laxus any more alcohol while I was gone. I didn't tell him not to give any to Bixlow. Bad idea number four.
I ran out of the bathroom when I heard a loud crash that sounded suspiciously like thunder. To my horror, Laxus was wasted. His clothes, the stool he was sitting in, and parts of Bixlow's clothes were black and smoking like he'd just discharged electricity, which, according to Bixlow, was exactly what happened.
Judging from Bixlow's mixed expression of shock and amusement, he had never seen Laxus drunk before. The first thing out of my mouth was, "What the hell did you do?"
"He wanted another drink but the bartender wouldn't give him one. So he asked me to get it for him. Then this happened," Bixlow defended.
Drunk Laxus had been unusually quiet until that moment. He stood up so fast that he knocked his smoldering stool over. He wrapped his powerful arm around my shoulder, "Freed!"
My stomach fluttered when he touched me. I had been in love with Laxus since before I joined the Thunder Legion. Despite my momentary joy at his touch, my uneasy feeling increased. If Laxus was drunk there was no way that this would turn out well.
"Oi, Freed~!" Laxus giggled and hiccupped loudly, "Where'd you go? I mished you~!"
"Oh boy," I muttered, "here we go again."
I could feel the others in the bar staring at us waiting to see what would happen. Laxus' giggling was a bit unnerving, "Oi, Freed~! Where're we? I can't remebmher what we were doin~!"
I reluctantly pulled Laxus' arm off my shoulders and set his stool upright. I gently tried to persuade him to sit back down. He obeyed but after a few minutes of giggling, his mood changed dramatically and he started destroying things.
The first thing he destroyed was the already damaged stool. Then he began discharging electricity destroying several shelves and sent hundreds of bottles crashing to the floor.
"Whoa! Live Wire's totally out of control!" Bixlow exclaimed.
"Live Wire?" I asked.
"Drunk Laxus, it's what we should call him. He's unpredictable ad probably dangerous, you know, a live wire."
"I'm going to have to ask you to leave if you can't control your friend," the bartender told us.
"I'm really, really sorry," I apologized trying to get Live Wire to calm down.
"Aw, come on, you've got to admit that this is funny," Cana said and emptied her bottle, "Well, this place is out of booze, so I'm going home."
I apologized again and paid for the damages. It would take several month's worth of work to make up the money spent. Bixlow and I had to carry Live Wire back to our apartment between us because he could barely walk. After we got back to our apartment, Live Wire's mood changed again.
"Hey Freed, are you a lightbulb?" he asked, "'Cuz you light up my whirld~!"
Bixlow and I stared at him, surprised to hear that come out of Laxus' mouth, "What?"
"Have you ever met a detective electrishin? They call me Sherlock Ohms."
After a moment I said to Bixlow, "I think... he's flirting."
"That's shocking," Bixlow snickered.
My heart started beating faster and I glared at him, "Don't encourage him."
"Freed, are you a lightswihich? 'Cuz you turn me on~!" Live Wire whispered.
Then he started to removing his clothes. I averted my eyes and blushed furiously as I tried to get him to put his clothes back on. Bixlow, who was the only person that knew about my crush on Laxus, burst out laughing. My patience, that had been running thin all night, finally snapped and I yelled at him, "Shut up! This is your fault! You don't get to laugh!"
But loosing my temper only made him laugh harder. In my rage at Bixlow, I forgot about Live Wire. He pushed me against the wall and kissed me. I was so surprised that I momentarily forgot that he was naked and drunk. Live Wire's hands made their way up my shirt. I pushed him away, "No, Laxus."
Suddenly, Live Wire's mood changes once again and he started crying, "B-but, Freed? I luv you! D-don't you luv me b-back?"
Bixlow laughed so hard he fell over. The words made my chest hurt because I knew they weren't true, "No, Laxus, you don't. You only think you do because of the alcohol."
"N-no, I-i r-really d-do!" he blubbered, "I th-thought you luved me b-back! B-but you d-don't!"
I wanted to tell him he was wrong but I didn't, fearing that Laxus might remember it in the morning. Instead I told him, "You know I'm loyal to you. I would never do anything to hurt you."
"B-but it's n-not the s-same! I w-want you t-to l-uv me like I l-luv you."
"Laxus, you don't know what you're saying. Trust me, you'll thank me in the morning."
I dealt with the blubbery Live Wire for half an hour before I decided to use an enchantment to put him to sleep. Bixlow ended up passing out from the lack of oxygen caused by laughing so hard. I dressed the unconscious Live Wire and carried both Bixlow and Laxus to their beds before heading to my own.
Laxus was speechless when I finished my story. Honestly, if I hadn't witnessed it myself I probably wouldn't have believed my story. I hesitated a lot when I got to the part about flirty/blubbery Live Wire.
Eventually Laxus said, "I'm sorry you had to deal with that."
"It's okay, Laxus, it wasn't your fault. I know you wouldn't have said or done those things if you hadn't been drinking," I told him.
An awkward silence fell between us as we tried to find the right words. After a while Laxus broke the uneasy tension by saying, "Not all of it."
This comment confused me, "What do you mean?"
"You said that I only would have said some of the things I did because I was drunk. That's not entirely true."
I couldn't think of anything to say in response, "Huh?" Laxus flushed and turned away from me. I stood there staring at him, waiting for him to elaborate.
"What I mean is... Basically, what I'm trying to say is... That I-i do love you, Freed."
My heart started beating faster when he said this, but surely he couldn't mean he loved me as a man. He probably meant that thought of me as a brother or as a member of his family.
"Freed?" he asked.
"Yes, Laxus?"
"Can I get your opinion?"
"You mean you actually..? Wait... Are you messing with me? Is this some kind of joke? Because if you're messing with me, I swear-"
"No!" Laxus shouted interrupting me, "I'm serious Freed. I... I love you. I probably never would have admitted it if I wasn't drunk, though."
Laxus' words went joy shooting through my body to the tips of my fingers, "I love you too, Laxus! I always have! I was so scared when you told me because you were drunk."
"You'll never have to fear that again. I will love you from now until eternity," Laxus said and bent down to kiss me.
Author's note: Thanks for reading, I hoped you liked it. I had fun writing it (especially Bixlow's lines)
What did you think of drunk Laxus/Live Wire? I noticed that they never really showed Laxus with alcohol, so I thought, "Wonder what he'd be like drunk?" This is my interpenetration, please vote and comment. Puns are always accepted here.
Thanks.
