Music can be a great help when writing. Usually, soundtracks from movies work best because there are (usually) no distracting lyrics. Listen to music which matches the  mood of the scene you're writing. 

For example, when I was writing a fight scene in my book a couple of days ago, I listened to Scorponok from the "Transformers: The Score" soundtrack. (This particular soundtrack has worked very, very well for me.) 

Also, don't try to block out the music. Just let it flow through your mind as you write. That probably sounds really cheesy, but that's the best way I can put it.
