Fallen Canvases

Autumn fairies
pulled out their acorn-shell paint pots,
and dipped dried, dandelion-bristled paintbrushes
in pre-dawn frosting.

Gliding through the brisk air,
poised to create almost-winter masterpieces,
the fairies' wings twinkled in the rainbows of morning dew,
caught between the worlds of night and day.

Finding a pumpkin-kissed canvas,
which had drifted from the majestic tree above,
the fairies descended with purpose,
to create a mini-masterpiece upon the lake shore.

Author's Note:

When I was a little girl, (I think I was around 5 years old), my grandfather took me to see a drive-in movie; Fantasia.

There was no speech during the cartoons of the film; only music.

Fantasia was produced in 1940 by Walt Disney and Ben Sharpsteen.

As soon as I saw Fantasia, I fell in love with it. The artistry and music captivated me. No words were necessary.

The fairies were, (and still are!) some of my most cherished scenes of Fantasia.

This past fall, as soon as I came upon the leaf pictured above, I thought of Fantasia. Towards that end, and having been inspired by Fantasia from so many decades beforehand, the words of Fallen Canvases came to mind.

I hope you enjoy it.
Thank you for reading.

Thank you, Walt Disney and Ben Sharpsteen, for Fantasia.

Thank you, Poppy, for introducing me to the world of art and music. I'll always love you.
