Chapter Twenty-Two: The Moon Speaks
~Little Tooth~
Chapter 22:
The Moon Speaks

"DNA evidence was found within her injuries, and yes, that is enough to place this woman under arrest." The cop sighed, sitting at a table in front of Jackson and Oliver.
Jackson didn't want Mrs. Overland arrested JUST for what she did to Baby Tooth. He wanted the woman arrested for EVERYTHING she did, as well as the other workers from Little Apple.
"And what would be her time, officer?" Oliver asked.
The officer leaned back in his chair. "For kidnap and violence...All we can charge her with is 30 years, give or take prole."
Jackson's eyes narrowed. It didn't matter if the woman had prole, she'd still get out before age killed her. Prole is when an inmate acts good or has good behavior for a long amount of their time, thus being let out before the time they actually were ruled. The officer noticed their upset feeling.
"It seems the two of you are convinced she has done more wrong." He leaned forward. "If you want her punished, you need evidence. And a court. Did you talk with someone already about your problems?"
"No." Jackson shook his head. "I wasn't sure what to do until last night."
The officer looked at the wall clock, then smirking at the two men. He pulled out a pad and pen and sighed.
"Today has been a slow day, and it seems nothing else will happen. I've got all the time in the world to listen to you boys, and lucky you aren't being fined for the time. Get with it."
"You'll be in for a story." Jackson eyed the clock too. It was early in the morning, just before breakfast.
"Let's hope you stay non-fictional." The officer joked.
Jackson looked at Oliver, and then slowly looked back at the officer.
"Well." He sighed. "I'll start with the very beginning, just like I always have..."

Baby Tooth sat on her bed, holding out her hand in front of her. It was her right hand, the one with the long scare from Mrs. Overland. It didn't hurt that bad anymore, and the skin was growing back over. It stilled stung when you messed with it though. Her other injuries were healing well, and although she might still have scars for as long as she's human, they should fade very well.
As she rested her hand back to her side, her eyes trailed off to the desk. The lamp was on, there wasn't a paper on top of it, there were a few cups, each holding many pens and pencils. Her eyes landed on a bag. A small, brown bag, tied to keep shut. She knew what it held. She knew this all too well. Within this bag was a few coins and a tooth. The tooth of 11 year old Alexis Hamilton.
She sighed. Alexis Hamilton. She knew the girl's mother, Mrs. Hamilton, and though she never talked to the girl, she heard a few things about her from Jackson and Felix. It was the last tooth she was ever sent to receive, for the night she went to get it, she never came back home. She was curious as to what memories it held, but it wasn't her tooth so she couldn't see for herself. Was she happy in the memory? Was she sad? Was her mother and father in it?
Now she was sitting on the bed, the bag opened on her lap and the tooth in her hand. It looked the same as it had so many years ago. It bored her. She sighed, closing her hand around it. Would a tooth fairy come in the night to take the tooth if she left it under her own pillow? Probably not.
"Hm."
Baby Tooth put the tooth back and placed the bag on the floor, then laying down on her pillow. What would Oliver think if he ever found out she was once not human? What would Jackson think? Would she ever have to tell them the truth? Would she ever see her old family again?
Only thinking about it brought forth new questions. She wasn't sure if she'd even want to turn back into a little tooth fairy again. It would mean saying goodbye to the life she had here. It would also mean seeing her siblings again. She missed them dearly, but her memories of them were fading slowly.
It would also mean she'd be free from all fear of Mrs. Overland.
Ever since she'd gotten free, she was scared the woman and the other workers were after her. She feared they knew where she lived and would get her when no one was looking. She showed the police the area they were located, but hasn't heard anything of their arrest. She didn't really want to sleep.
Looking at the clock, it was 10:34. She walked over to the desk, took out her ipod from one of the drawers, and went back to the bed. Sitting down with her back against the wall and her feet partly in the covers, she put on her earphones. She wasn't going to sleep tonight. She'd ignore Sandy's dream sand and make it through the night with whatever music she had on the little thing.

Jack Frost dangled his legs from a tall tree. He sat high above the heads of the children, teens, and adults that played in the Savannah town square. He watched them instead of playing with them. His staff rested in his hands. A cold breeze swept past the grass below. Jack watched the little children play tag and the adults stand around a small statue, talking about things. There weren't many teens, only 3. They played together, laughing loudly. Two girls and one boy. The boy had brown hair with a hat on, the girl had blonde hair that went over one of her eyes. The last girl had a grayish, sort of purple hair that was in a pony tail. Jack didn't know why, but looking at the three made his stomach hurt. He really, really wasn't sure why.
Sighing, he stood up and let the air pick him up. He flew above the trees, looking down at the square. He then had the wind take him far away. Within minutes the immortal teen was back in his home town, Burgess. He landed down at the park there, sitting at the base of a statue. This was the same place Jamie flew into a couch, right? Or no, the couch hit Jamie. Jack chuckled to himself at that memory.
Sitting a few more minutes, he realized nothing at all was going on at the park. It was lonely with no children around. He picked himself off the ground, and not flying, but walking down the side walk to visit his old friend's old house. He made it to Jamie's old house after a half hour of walking. He stood on the porch, resting himself on the railing.
"There is no for sale sign." He sighed. "I still don't understand why he left so suddenly."
The wind picked up, blowing what was left of the leaves off the trees. Jack Frost's powers leaked out as the railing he leaned on began to freeze over. He ignored it, of course.
"Monty and Pippa and Cupcake and everyone else still say hi to me. They still see me. But I havn't seen them around enough to ask about Jamie. Our conversations are so short, it's pointless in the end." He said to himself. "Why did those children have to grow up so fast?"
The Wind blew around the house, going through the porch and past Jack's hair. Jack chuckled at the Wind's childish behavior.
"Don't get me wrong, Wind, it's fun playing with you." He smiled. "But I miss Jamie and Sophie. And Jamie was my first believer so... it's kind of painful to see him go."
The wind settled down. Once Jack noticed this, he left the porch, off to do his job. He was the spirit of Winter, snow, frost, etc. and it was December.

Baby Tooth, Jamie, and Sophie stayed at the Savannah square for hours, staying until it was dark. This part of Savannah was very active during the dark hours, so Baby Tooth had no reason to be afraid. That and she had Jamie and Sophie with her. They spent a lot of time acting like children, running around. They would sit down for a little and talk. They were having fun.
"ugh, I'm hungry!" Sophie yelled form the bench as Jamie and Baby Tooth ran around.
"It's 6:30, we'll leave In a few minutes!" Jamie yelled back.
Jamie was chasing Baby Tooth, the two locked in a war of tag. Wasn't much fun with only two people, but they didn't care. Jamie was running out of breath as Baby Tooth was just too fast for him. He stopped to take a breath, only to see the girl trip and fall.
"A-are you okay!?" Jamie asked, walking over to her. He watched her stand up and stare at the sky.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Sophie got off the bench.
The two walked over to see her gazing at the moon. She looked somewhat shocked. The two were confused. Baby Tooth didn't more of say anything for a few seconds, until she finally looked down slowly at the two other teens in front of her. Jamie and Sophie could tell she was shaking. Was it the cold or did something get damaged when she felt? Then they realized she had a sorrowful smile and her eyes looked slick with tears.
"Baby Tooth?" Jamie asked.
"He...He spoke to me." She said, her voice soft.
"Who did?" Sophie asked.
"He...he did." She pointed up at the moon. "The Man in the Moon."
Jamie and Sophie looked at each other. They hung around Jack and the guardians long enough to know another guardian lived on the Moon, often called MiM or Manny. They knew he hardly talked much, but was very powerful.
"And...and what did he say?" The two siblings looked back at the girl.
The girl stared at her hands and then back at the two. She took awhile to answer.
"I have found you, my young Baby Tooth." The Man on the Moon had said. "And I have realized. These children, though now growing up, are yours to guard. As a guardian and as their trustworthy friend. You lived with them in Little Apple, hadn't you?"
MiM paused as she stared up at him with big eyes.
"You have a reason to be where you are. Because of that, I must not mess with the present. You will find home soon, but not even I know when."
