⋆        𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗 𝗢𝗙 slow traffic echoed as Oscar and Captain Holt walked towards the 99th precinct. Oscar couldn't help but be excited about finally being back in the detective job that he grew to love despite the challenges he encountered. The pressure of the job was something that he was addicted to, the rush of adrenaline in his blood streaming into his cells. It grew from the stress of being on the stage to where he was now. He had to make sure he thanked Kaden when he got home, knowing they were the reason for this opportunity.

"I have heard about some of your case breakthroughs, like the Bootleg Killer Case in 2009, which was an exciting case, and you saved Queens from the chaos that could doom the city," Holt explained, each of his words monotoned. Oscar nodded while grinning; he couldn't help but be proud of himself for making it to where he is today. It paid off for him, even if it wasn't what he had planned for the future.

"So what job position would I fill? The same as―" Oscar started to speak, and Holt raised his hand, nodding as Oscar stopped to listen. He placed his hands in his pockets, looking up at Holt. It hadn't hit Oscar yet that he was getting another lifeline, a chance to return to his loved job. It was also a chance to get around and put the nightmares to rest of the crime family that haunted him. He looked up to the clouds, admiring the softness of the white, and exhaled, knowing that he was happy, and offered a chance to breathe again.

"Of course. You would work alongside my other detectives, that is if you take the job position," Holt said as he looked at Oscar, and the pair stopped to exchange eye contact. Oscar grinned a little before reaching up to fix his glasses. Holt was still quiet, and he seemed to be observing the detective's movements. Oscar didn't know whether or not he should be concerned, but he nodded and looked back at Holt, a smile on his face.

"It would be a pleasure to work with you, sir," Oscar said as he held his hand for a handshake. Holt reached out and shook it, nodding for approval. Oscar was already in his good books, which wasn't bad. Holt nodded, placing his hands in front of him before looking out at the park. Oscar did as well, seeing the pond he and Kaden had previously visited. The memories lingered for Oscar, but it wasn't the right time. He needed to stop revisiting the past, knowing it would only dig him into a deeper grave.

"Good, I need to finish the paperwork for transferring, but you can start on Monday. I'll assign a detective you can work with to get the hang of things and how things work at the precinct. I'm sure you will be fine with handling things here," Holt said, and Oscar nodded as he understood, but the adrenaline was rushing through his body. Oscar watched Holt walk away on the path, and Oscar turned around to head back to where he was previously. Oscar couldn't help but feel a ping of excitement inside him as he started to walk toward his apartment.

━━━━━━

⋆        "𝗜 𝗚𝗢𝗧 𝗔 job; I got a job; I got a job!" Oscar squealed as he opened the door to the apartment and noticed that his siblings were now home. Liliana smiled as she suddenly jumped up from the couch and ran to hug Oscar. Oscar caught her as she jumped, and he spun her around. Oscar sighed as he couldn't stop smiling, the way that his heart was racing miles per hour, and there was no sign of slowing down. Oscar couldn't believe that Kaden would do this for him, and he guessed that it was their way of thanking him for the support Oscar had given him.

"I knew you could do it! Kaden could be terrifying, but they are pretty convincing sometimes, and it worked this time! When do you start?" Liliana said as she pulled away from the hug to look at Oscar. Oscar smiled as the pair sat down on the couch, with Oscar keeping his legs close to his chest and Liliana crossing her legs. Oscar tilted his head, placing his hand on the back as he rested his arm on the couch, trying to find the right words to describe his feelings.

"Right now, all the information I have so far is that I start on Monday, and I will be working alongside―" Oscar said, but he stopped as he could hear the apartment door, and what followed was Kaden's smirk as they carried the groceries in. Oscar walked towards him and pulled them into a big hug, wrapping his arms around Kaden tightly and not letting go for a few minutes. Kaden responded with his arms wrapping around Oscar's frame and patting his back.

"Thank you, seriously. You have done so much for me this week; you have no idea how much I love you, Kad," Oscar said as he spoke softly while still hugging Kaden. He felt his eyes start tearing, and he blinked promptly, trying not to give his vulnerability away so quickly.

"A―are you crying?" Liliana said as she popped around the corner, peering at Oscar's face. Oscar proceeded to scrunch his nose, shaking his head back and forward. Liliana sighed as she crossed her arms, looking slightly concerned, while Kaden rubbed his hand on Oscar's back, comforting him.

"Shut up, Liliana; it's just the spring season; you know how it is with the flowers... But, unfortunately, they are causing me to have hay fever, which sucks, especially when it gives you puffy eyes and a sniffy nose―" Oscar explained, but it seemed more rambling instead. Liliana chuckled as she joined in the hug, snuggling on his chest.

"Say you are crying; it's much quicker than trying to make an excuse. Come on; we're your siblings; we know you better than yourself," Liliana said, and Oscar couldn't help but agree. It was, after all, the truth, and he couldn't deny the fact. He was the one who had to raise them after his parents died; therefore, secrets had to be told for them to be protected. Oscar pulled the two of them close for one last hug before they all pulled apart.

"What do you guys say we get Chinese tonight? Celebrate my new job and the future ahead of us?" Oscar said as both Kaden and Liliana nodded excitedly, making Oscar smile. He couldn't wait to see what the future held for him, and he hoped that his good luck would keep going and never slow down. Even if it meant him losing something on the way, so be it; he deserved something right for once in his life.

━━━━━━

⋆        𝗔𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗨𝗡 rose on a Monday morning; Oscar felt himself get up for his first day in the detective position at the 99th precinct. Oscar sighed as he stretched his arms wide, hearing his shoulders crack and making him exhale. He felt nervous, thinking that he might screw this opportunity up or all of this was just a mistake and that he was delusional. Nonetheless, he tried to push those thoughts away as he made mini pancakes for his siblings.

Kaden woke up first, wearing a hoodie that hid their messy hair and suited his tired eyes with eye bags underneath. They smiled at Oscar before grabbing a plate and bending over to eat his breakfast. Oscar moved the golden syrup towards them, which Kaden gladly accepted as they held the bottle and drizzled it over their pancakes. Oscar wondered where Liliana was, and as if it was on cue, Liliana walked into the living room, rubbing her eyes as she yawned.

"Holy shoot― what is that smell?" Liliana spoke as she walked up to the breakfast bar next to Kaden and pulled out the stool. Oscar chuckled as he passed a plate that was already full of pancakes for her. She accepted it, placed it in her mouth and melted with each bite.

"Jesus! This is..." Liliana said she had already finished one and was on her next pancake. Oscar smiled, happy that she enjoyed them, and looked to Kaden, who approved her. Oscar nodded, understanding, as he placed the tea towel over his shoulder. He was glad that Kaden had brought those cooking classes for Oscar because they came useful for serving lunches to his siblings.

"Oh, yeah, Lily, you're taking the bus today. I'm taking Oz to work until his motorbike is out of the shop, which means you gotta get ready now," Kaden said as he spoke before grabbing the last pancake on the plate, which Liliana wasn't pleased about. After an hour and a half, Liliana was finally dressed and prepared to go to the bus stop, grumbling that she had to go to school at seven AM. Oscar and Kaden found themselves already headed towards the apartment's parking garage, towards Kaden's car.

Oscar knew that Kaden loved their car; it was pretty straightforward: there were no scratches, and the tires were clean. The raspberry―coloured classic used to belong to the Winchesters' mother, and now it had been passed to the oldest. Oscar gave Kaden the keys as the senior, as he preferred a motorbike for travelling. Oscar also didn't want to be left with bad memories of the past, knowing that his mother loved that car. So when Kaden got their license, Oscar surprised Kaden with the car and fixed it. The car's soft music collaborated with Kaden's voice, telling Oscar about the precinct and the detectives who work there. Unfortunately, Oscar became distracted as his mind went toward life at the 99th precinct.

"Are you even listening to me― oh my god, what are you even wearing? Is that a hoodie of―" Kaden started to speak as he looked over to Oscar, who had a slight smirk. He shrugged, making Kaden sigh as they shook their head back and forward jokingly.

"Die Hard? Yes, and what about it, hm, Kade? What will you do about it, sue me for emotional damages? I have a good fashion sense, and it's also comfortable!" Oscar said, raising an eyebrow before tilting his head to the side. Oscar loved to joke around with Kaden, as the pair were close together, their friendship destined to last for centuries. Kaden exhaled as they turned the steering wheel softly towards the precinct.

"There's just another co―worker that you will probably enjoy; that's all I will say. But Oscar? Good luck because he is a huge fan of the franchise," Kaden started to speak, explaining about a detective, and Oscar nodded, understanding. At the same time, Oscar was quietly excited to meet this co-worker, knowing they would get along well.

"There is no way they like Die Hard more than me, but it does make sense! Die Hard is generally a good film to watch," Oscar said as he rested his arm on the car door, the windows winded down. Oscar liked the fresh air as the spring heat was starting to creep into New York, and Oscar couldn't wait for the annual picnic lunch that the family had.

"Not when it is on repeat on Christmas for five hours, and having to watch your brother recreate scenes―" Kaden started to speak, but they were interrupted by Oscar's scoffing, beginning to laugh. Kaden rolled his eyes, but they still had a smile on his face.

━━━━━━

⋆        𝗢𝗦𝗖𝗔𝗥 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗞𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗡 headed inside the building, having already parked on the side, and they reached the elevator of the 99th precinct. Oscar looked around in awe, trying to find everything unique. It reminded him a little about his old precinct, and his heart still felt sad; his attachment issues were lingering. Although Oscar knew he would create new and better memories at the new precinct.

"Hey, Oz? You okay?" Kaden said as he touched his shoulder, and Oscar sighed. Oscar knew that Kaden was good at spotting the difference between Oscar's emotions because they were a sketch artist for the precinct. That meant that he was good at observing things, and Oscar couldn't avoid the philosophical view of Kaden's eyes. Oscar nodded, reaching up to adjust his glasses out of nervous habits, which summed it up for Kaden, who responded with a pat on the shoulder. There was a moment of silence, and Oscar cleared his throat awkwardly.

"Oh, uh, Kade, did you already press the button... or is the elevator broken―" Oscar said as he pointed to the buttons, seeing that they weren't lit up.

"Oh, I didn't realize," Kaden said as he reached over rigidly to push the button. Oscar bit back his tongue, trying to fight the urge to laugh out loud. Kaden could see him struggling as they humorously poked Oscar's sides with their elbow. The pair started to shove each other playfully before Kaden reached up to ruffle Oscar's hair.

Meanwhile, in the Bullpen, the squad was oblivious to what would happen in the next few minutes. The team sat around together, discussing what cop movies were the best. The sunlight shone through the blinds, and each detective sat around one of the desks. The smell of coffee could be hinted at throughout the precinct, a common thing.

"For the last time, the best cop moves, Training Day, Lethal Weapon, and Fargo. End of discussion," Amy said as she rested her arm on her lap, facing the others as she placed her argument forward. As he started waging his finger at Amy, Jake shook his head, repetitively back and forward. Amy responded with a tilt, sighing as she knew what answer he would give.

"Wrong! Die Hard is the best cop movie of all time. One cop heroically saves the day while everyone else stands around and watches. It's the story of my life! " Jake said as he looked around, each of the detectives sighing. Charles nodded in agreement, which wasn't surprising to the others, and Amy rolled her eyes as she crossed her arms.

"I like Turner & Hooch! Tom Hanks has a reluctant friendship with a dog. That hits me where I live," Charles said as he placed a hand on his heart and nodded as he looked at the others. A few of them raised their eyebrow while Jake nodded with an uncertain expression on his face. Charles was oblivious and smiled nonetheless, lifting the happy energy for the squad.

"No, Robocop. It has everything I like ― Gratuitous violence," Rosa started to speak, and everyone turned to listen to her, unaware that she had stopped listing things. Jake raised his eyebrow, confused, before he spoke up.

"Oh, I thought you were listing things―" Jake said as he started to speak, but Rosa shook her as she crossed her arms and put her legs on Charles' seat. Charles was surprised but worried about getting kicked off by Rosa.

"I was; I'm done."

"Let's talk Bad Boys! That's the perfect cop movie. Mr Smith is lookin' fine. A hot cup of tea, Leone, come on!" Gina walked into the conversation with a phone in her hands. Jake and Amy nodded slightly in agreement, and Gina did finger guns. I'm glad they nodded.

"Francois Truffaut's Breathless―" Terry spoke, including his movie into the conversation, but he noticed that everyone was looking at him weirdly and decided to add his defence for the movie. "―what? Terry likes foreign films!" The squad started to argue over which cop movie was the best before Captain Holt walked into the Bullpen, getting everyone's attention. Jake raised his eyebrow as he smiled to ask a question, but Holt raised his hand.

"Everyone gather in the briefing room, please. I have an important announcement to make," Holt said, and everyone was unsure of what was happening but followed him. Some detectives were worried that it was something terrible, but it only turned out that the announcement would change their lives.

━━━━━━

⋆        𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗩𝗔𝗧𝗢𝗥 𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗘𝗗 just as the detectives found their seats in the briefing room, Oscar and Kaden made their way through the Bullpen. Oscar turned his head towards the briefing room and saw Captain Holt speaking. Oscar tucked his jumper into his jeans, ensuring he looked presentable for the detectives and the Captain. He wanted to make a good first impression since his last appearance at his old precinct hadn't gone so well.

Kaden walked him over to the window, and Oscar looked over Kaden's shoulder as he waited for his cue to come in. He could hear Holt talking about cases before introducing the squad. Oscar felt nervousness bubbling up inside him, and Kaden smiled softly as he nodded at Oscar, trying to put him at ease. Oscar stared through the blinds, slowly getting agitated, and Kaden could sense the energy because they placed a hand on Oscar's back.

"It will be okay; they are all nice! I promise that, and you will fit right in," Kaden whispered, smoothing Oscar's curls on his forehead, which didn't do anything as it became poofier. Oscar knew he needed a haircut but didn't bother as he liked making small talk with the judgemental hairdressers. Oscar exhaled before nodding and hugging Kaden. He didn't need to feel nervous, but why did he in the first place? He found himself asking that question repeatedly, knowing it was a bad habit that had started forming.

As Kaden walked away to prepare their sketching things for the upcoming day, Oscar stood quietly, hoping he wouldn't make as much noise as he didn't want to disturb the Captain. Oscar started to fiddle with his fingers, trying to find a sense of calmness. However, Oscar could hear that the Captain was now beginning to speak about him, and he stood ready for the cue for him to enter the briefing room.

"As you all should know, I have mentioned that the 78th precinct was being shut down due to health problems. But I had a choice to save one of the detectives from the precinct that I feel will do well here at the nine―nine," Holt explained as the squad detectives looked around, thinking he was already sitting in the room.

"So we're getting a new detective?" Rosa questioned, making the squad talk amongst themselves. Oscar couldn't hear, but he hoped it was a good thing, but he was used to harsh words.

"Indeed, Diaz is one of the best in the 78th precinct. He graduated top of his class and solved the Smith case in 2009 and the Hathway case in 2013―" Holt explained, and Amy widened her eyes out of excitement.

"Oh my god, he solved the Hathway Case?" Amy said in an impressed tone. Jake raised his eyebrow as he looked at Amy, hoping for explanations. Amy sighed as she sat up properly and turned towards the squad.

"The Hathway Case was one of the biggest unsolved cases in New York. Six children were taken to a manor, and only one came alive. Most people assumed the child was the murderer, but he was traumatized for years. It was a cold case for seven years, but how―" Amy said as she turned towards Holt, and he nodded with an impressed look on his face.

"Yes, Santiago, he was one of few who understood the child's fear and decided to take it into his hands to redeem the children who lost their lives. It's one of the reasons I think he would be a good fit for our squad," Holt said as he raised his hand to quieten the excitement of the detectives.

"I am pleased to welcome Oscar Winchester to the squad; please, come in," Holt said as he started to clap, and Oscar sighed before he relaxed his shoulders and grabbed the doorknob. His heart began to pound, and his head filled with thoughts, but he pushed them aside and opened the door.
