⋆        𝗔𝗦 𝗢𝗦𝗖𝗔𝗥 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗗 the cue for him to walk into the room, his heart started to pound against his head. A rush of thoughts began to fill his head, but he pushed them all aside as he reached to open the door. Oscar looked around at the faces who stared back at him and gave a friendly nod to them. His hands found each other, and he started fumbling with his fingers, unsure what to do. Before Holt could introduce Oscar to the precinct, one of the detectives gasped dramatically, which caused the person next to them to groan and rest their head on the table. The squad knew why he was dramatic, but the confusion hinted at Oscar's face.

"Oh my god, is that a Die Hard hoodie?" The detective yelled out as he had a big smile on his face. Oscar chuckled as he nodded, his arms crossing his chest, and he smiled back at the detective. Oscar's hands fidgeted happily, his eyes meeting the other detective's.

"It's one of the best cop movies, in my humble opinion," Oscar said softly, and the detective jumped out of his seat and started clapping. Oscar was taken aback but couldn't help but smile at the simple act. One of the detectives groaned as she leaned back in her seat, and the same detective who rested their head nodded in agreement.

"See! I told you guys! Thank you, Oscar, for supporting my claims. I can already tell we are going to be great friends," Jake said as he smiled again, which made Oscar swoon quietly, but he buried that deep down in his soul. Oscar adjusted his glasses nervously, even though he didn't need to in the first place; it was just a nervous habit he couldn't help.

"Sit down, please, Peralta. Why don't you introduce yourself, Winchester, to the squad? I'm sure you don't mind at all?" a tall man spoke as the detective sighed before sitting in his chair. Captain Holt nodded as he looked at the squad before looking back at Oscar, who straightened his back. Oscar stepped forward with his hands placed behind his back.

"Hey, guys! My name is Oscar Winchester, but I'm sure Holt already told you guys. I was originally from the 78th before it was shut down, and I am happy to work with you guys. Uh, some fun facts about me― let's see... I wanted to be an actor, but I changed plans, like cats, and studied languages for fun!" Oscar said as he crossed his arms and smiled at the squad.

"Aw! You are so innocent for this world, pleading face emoji―" a woman spoke as she stood up, holding a phone, "―the name is Gina Linetti, the human form of the 100 emoji," the woman, who was called Gina, said as she went over to shake Oscar's hand. Oscar shook it as he went up to fix his glasses again. Gina smiled before heading out of the briefing room, and Oscar looked over to Holt, waiting for his orders.

"Introductions from the detective squad can be carried on later today. But, for now,  I will assign―" Captain Holt started to speak before being interrupted by the same detective who had made Oscar smile earlier.

"Oh! Oh! Oh! Me! Can he work with me, please, please, please? I promise to be a good detective and do all my cases; I'll do all my paperwork afterwards!" Jake said as he started to bounce in his seat, placing his hands in a pleading movement. Oscar raised his eyebrow, hoping Holt would let him work with the detective. The pair seemed great friends, and Oscar was eager to get to know him more.

"Excuse my partner, but he's just excited to meet someone else who likes Die Hard. My name is Amy, Amy Santiago! It's a pleasure to meet you. I've heard wonders about your casework and would love to discuss them!" Amy said she stood up, walked toward Oscar with a smile, and shook his hand. Oscar nodded as he was impressed, never meeting someone else who was just as dedicated as he was.

"Of course! I would love to as well," Oscar said as Amy smiled a little before letting go of his hand and headed back to her seat in the briefing room, with her partner smiling a big smile. Oscar ruffled his hair as he smiled again. Just as Kaden said before, these people were friendly, and he never understood why he was nervous in the first place. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all.

⋆        𝗔𝗦 𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗧 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗗 how things worked around in the precinct, the briefing was completed, and Oscar could finally get a chance to see the precinct in full effect. Oscar headed towards his new desk and connected with two other detectives, Jake and Amy, as he was partnered with them to work on cases. It was to ensure that Oscar was settling in nicely and Oscar had already started making good connections with some of the detectives.

"This is going to be so much fun! I have a question to ask―" Jake said as he sat at his desk before leaning in his chair. Oscar looked up and chuckled as he did the same, his head resting on the back of the chair.

"The first Die Hard movie will always be the best in the series. It's what started the whole thing! Also, the best time to watch them is either during Christmas or late at night," Oscar said as Jake looked at him in awe before Amy smacked him on the arm, bringing his attention back to an important cause. Oscar rolled his chair towards the two detectives, joining their conversation as Amy reached out to give him the case files to look at. Oscar thanked her as he opened it to skim―read it before Amy stood out of her chair.

"Oscar, you can come with us to explain how things work here. I assume it would differ from how things might work at the 78th?" Amy spoke as the two detectives stood up, and the three all headed towards the elevator. The elevator dinged quietly, and the three detectives followed Jake towards his car, parked in the building's parking garage.

The day was warm, and the sky was surprisingly blue for New York as the car pulled out of the building onto the roads. Oscar was sitting in the backseat of Jake's car as they headed toward the victim's apartment. Jake rambled while Amy blocked his voice like white noise as she stared out the car window, watching the people go past.

Oscar looked at Jake a bit clearer, and he could see many things that could only be seen close up. Jake had one of the most amazing smiles that could light up the dark and the warmest brown eyes that could reach your soul. The slight curl close to his forehead and the dimples hinted at his cheeks whenever he talked about something. It was just unexplainable, and Oscar couldn't find the words that rendered him speechless. All he could say was that Jake was an unfinished poem, a symphony that Oscar would listen to for the rest of his life.

⋆        "𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗩𝗜𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗠'𝗦 𝗡𝗔𝗠𝗘 is Max Ridgeway. He hasn't been involved with bad people recently, but the papers say that he was involved with the wrong type of people when he was young," Amy spoke to the boys as they entered the apartment. It was what you expected of a typical frat student; messes were everywhere, dishes piling in the sink. It smelt like it had been damp for days, added to the blood that faded away now due to the number of chemicals it had used. Oscar was glad that his siblings were neat and clean, as he knew he wouldn't be able to survive days with the number of messes.

"Man, it stinks in here..." Oscar said as he braved the smell for a moment before his hand reached up to protect his nose. Amy nodded as she tried to breathe in the fresh air, although there weren't any due to no open windows. Oscar walked a little, heading towards the dining table, where flies flew around untouched food. Everything was left previously, but it seemed strange to pause everything.

"God, could they at least leave a scented candle around?" Jake said as Oscar chuckled and nodded, agreeing to the statement. Oscar found himself walking around the dining table, looking at different perspectives, hoping to see something that would catch his eye.

"Is that― oh my god, is that a rat!" Oscar said he hopped on one of the dining table chairs, hoping to escape the pest. Amy chuckled as she didn't realise a rat was running across the floor but wasn't fazed by it.

"Oh my god, ew, ew―" Jake said as he jumped to another chair close to Oscar. Amy rolled her eyes as she stepped away from the rat's path. The rat soon disappeared into the apartments' walls, where hopefully Oscar would never see them again. Oscar sighed as he slowly reached down to grab the chair, but it started to wobble, so he stopped moving.

"The landlords should be careful about rat infestations, especially with big rats! They look like cats, or―" Jake said as he moved around the chair he was standing on, and Oscar agreed with Jake's statement. Amy chuckled as she crossed her arms and tilted her head towards the two men, grabbing her phone as she took a picture of Jake's scared expression. Jake was confused as he looked at Amy before raising his eyebrow.

"Oh, don't worry about this; this is just blackmail. You have my prom picture, so now I have this!" Amy said, and Oscar smiled a little, but the chair made him shake, and he lost his footing. Oscar swore a little as he felt himself falling onto Jake's chair, making Jake fall. It was the domino effect that Oscar didn't want, but it could benefit him in the future.

"Jeez! I'm so sorry about that. Are you all good?" Oscar spoke as he got off Jake before things got awkward quickly. Before he could react, Oscar couldn't help but maintain Jake's eye contact for a moment, making Oscar's heart quicken.

"Falling for me, Winchester?" Jake said as he smirked before reaching up to Oscar's hand to be pulled up. That stupid smirk covered Oscar's face with a blush, and he shook it away as he investigated the kitchen with Amy.

"Hey! Is anyone going to help me up?" Jake said as Oscar turned around on his heel, still having a slight smile on his face, with Amy by his side. Amy sighed as they walked over to help him onto his feet. Jake made a noise as he bounced up, and the three walked towards the kitchen. Oscar watched his step, careful not to step on the broken glass shards left on the ground due to evidence.

"Bullet holes here and there, shots were fired, but they might have missed the victim by just a smidge as the bullets are still in the walls, and not the body," Amy explained, and Oscar took note of that as he observed the scene. Oscar nodded before Amy walked around to show the dried puddle of blood where the victim lay.

"Do you have any suspects?" Oscar questioned the pair and responded with a head shake, which Oscar took note of again.

"Sadly, no. There aren't any suspects or witnesses, but we do have Max's history with drug dealers, so we think it could just be a deal gone wrong," Jake stated before Amy could speak. Oscar sighed before observing the crime scene again.

"Might add to that, Peralta, that Max also has medical issues, and we have talked to his doctor about it. He wasn't too happy seeing us, but it was worth it in the end, as he managed to give us his files," Amy replied, and Jake nodded as he joined Oscar by his side to show him the blood splatters. Oscar reached up to his glasses, clearing the smudges out of his lenses.

"Were there any fingerprints?"

"No... We couldn't find any blood off the suspect since Max had skin under his fingertips, but we couldn't find any DNA since it was too corrosive. The cleaning products may have changed the results," Amy sighed as she crossed her arms and strolled out of the kitchen. Oscar stopped to think before closing his eyes and thinking of situations. He sighed as he adjusted his glasses before realising what it could have been. The pair looked at Oscar and noticed the sudden change in body expression, and Oscar nodded as he faced the team.

"What if it isn't a deal gone wrong? What if it is something that just led to the wrong thing? You said it yourself; it's almost as if the murderer knew Max well enough not to break into the apartment―" Oscar started to speak, and Amy tilted her head to the side, her curiosity peaked. "―Max had health problems, as Santiago had said earlier. The DNA was cleaned out well, along with the fingerprints. What if it was someone that was supposed to help him?" Oscar said as he raised his eyebrow. The two detectives who stood before him looked confused, unsure of the theory's making before Jake's eyes widened. He looked over to Amy, looking at him for an explanation.

"Oh my god, Amy, he's a genius!"

"What do you mean?"

"We were thinking about bad people, such as Max's old drug dealers when we didn't even question Max's doctor! He wasn't too happy to see us, and I did some research on him on Facebook, as you do, and noticed that he mentioned something about his wife having an affair―" Jake spoke, his words started to merge as he told fast. Somehow, Amy understood what he was saying while Oscar nodded happily, unsure what he was saying.

"So it was a revenge killing for the wrong person!" Amy shouted excitedly. Oscar smiled as he started to head towards the door, with Jake ahead of him and Amy behind him. Jake bounced on his heels as he turned around to face the pair.

"Let's inform the Robot Captain!" Jake said as he opened the door and sped around the corner out of the apartment, with Amy and Oscar following close behind.

━━━━━━

⋆        "𝗪𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗟𝗗𝗡'𝗧 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗗 any prints because the place was wiped expertly, except for the body, because of the precise cuts that ended in internal bleeding. But we needed someone who knew how to do that! According to Jake, Max's doctor, Dr Stevens, mentioned that his wife was having an affair, so we thought―" Amy started to speak before being interrupted by Captain Holt.

"That he would get upset about it and get revenge against his wife, but killed the wrong person. Get a warrant to get into Dr Stevens's apartment, bring the squad with you, and report back," Captain Holt said before standing up and directing them towards the door.

"Let's get going before Dr. Stevens realises we are onto him," Oscar said as the two detectives nodded and headed to their desks to get prepped. Oscar searched his desk for the files to be prepared for the paperwork afterwards. He sighed as he grabbed his coffee cup, trying not to knock it over before taking a sip and heading towards the elevators. The three of them piled into Jake's car, quickly driving towards the suspect's apartment. The streets became less busy as they drove past a few tourists and vehicles. When they reached the apartment, a man opened the door and noticed the detectives standing there. The face held a bewildered look, and Oscar knew it was the doctor as he ran past the detectives before taking off into the crowd.

"Quick! Before we lose him!" Amy yelled before running towards the doctor. The boys followed her, hoping not to lose her and the doctor. As Oscar started to run, he noticed something up ahead, and he saw that the doctor was heading towards the end of the street. So he took a sharp left, running into an alleyway.

"Where are you going, Oscar?" Jake yelled as Oscar kept going; he turned abruptly to face Jake.

"It's a shortcut! Go with Amy and cut him off there!" Oscar yelled back as he ran through the alley and hesitated to jump over the dumpster and the small fence. Oscar found himself on the other side of the buildings. Oscar was right behind the doctor as he ran as fast as possible. His legs were pumping as he dodged walkers to avoid running into people. His legs were hurting, but he ignored the pain. Indeed, the doctor would run out of breath, and he was right. The doctor ran into another alleyway, which was blocked, and he thought he was safe, but Oscar had finally reached the alleyway and blocked the only exit.

"NYPD! Put your hands up where we can see them!" Oscar yelled before getting his gun out and pointing at the doctor. At this point, the other two detectives finally catch up with Oscar and do the same.

"Anything can be and will be used against you in the court of law," Amy spoke before walking toward the doctor and handcuffing his wrists. Jake finally managed to catch his breath as he turned around to face Oscar with a look on his face.

"How d―do you even ru―run that fa―fast!" Jake panted as Oscar smiled. He responded with a shrug and took a deep breath, trying to catch his breath.

"Four years of track and running away from bullies helps a lot," Oscar said with a smirk before looking at the prep in the police car as the police officers surrounded the roads and helped out. Then, he took another deep breath as he realised something and couldn't help but smile. He helped two detectives solve a case on his first day at the 99th precinct. He wanted to talk about that with his siblings in the evening.

"Hey, Oscar? You up for squad drinks night at Shaw's?" Amy said with a smile as she walked up to Jake's side. Oscar chuckled as he faced the two and nodded.

"You bet I am."
