⋆ 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗 𝗢𝗙 a motorbike rumbled throughout the streets of Brooklyn; the headphones played music in Oscar's helmet as he reached the precinct's parking lot, parking in one of the motorbike sections. It had been a peaceful morning, with the streets of Brooklyn, New York, already making noise for the beginning of the day. Just before he removed his helmet, he could hear another bike driving in, and Oscar smiled in his helmet; he didn't want to reveal to the driver that he was also a motorbike person. He thought it would be fun to surprise the 99th squad. After all, he was supposed to be soft━hearted of the detectives, so it would be a surprise to see someone like that own a motorbike.
"That was so scary, Rosa! You told me that we were going to drive slow!"
"Jake, that was slow."
"Maybe for you!" Jake said as he hopped off Rosa's bike, knees trembling on the ground as he relaxed his shoulders from being on a solid foundation. Rosa scoffed as she placed her helmet under her arm, watching Jake stumble a bit, trying not to throw up. Oscar chuckled as he walked around to the other side of the bike, watching Jake.
"Hey, dude? Nice bike, the wheels are good," Rosa said to Oscar, who turned around and carefully removed his helmet, shaking out his hair. He had meant to keep it neat today, but there were ruffles on his forehead, and he draped them out of his eyes.
"Holy shit━", Jake started to speak before getting interrupted by Rosa.
"Wait, I didn't know you had a bike; oh my god, Winchester, your reputation just got so much better than before," Rosa said before examining the motorbike. Oscar chuckled, not letting it get to his head too harshly. After all, he knew it was coming from the bottom of Rosa's heart, so whatever she said was all said with love ━ sometimes.
"I'm so confused about this topic; I feel like I shouldn't be here..." Jake confessed as he looked at both Oscar and Rosa. Oscar chuckled while Rosa slightly smirked and crossed her arms before looking at Oscar's bike one last time. When Jake got his jacket, Rosa nudged Oscar as he rolled his eyes but still smiled.
"Let's head up; we don't want to be late," Oscar said as he grabbed his motorbike helmet and placed it under his arms before turning to face Rosa and Jake, who was following close behind. They headed towards the stairs, walking their way up to the Bullpen.
━━━━━━
⋆ 𝗢𝗦𝗖𝗔𝗥 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗧𝗢 look through his files, trying to find more of a connection for his case that he was working with Rosa, to see where the drug ring was. The place was getting packed with many people, mainly preps and lawyers, trying to defend their criminals. Oscar didn't like the lawyers, always seeing them presenting themselves with power and high grace that seemed like bragging.
"Detectives, in the briefing room, now," Captain Holt spoke to the squad, with Jake behind him, looking guilty. The pair had been in Holt's office for half an hour, and none of the others knew what the conversation was about, but a bunch of hand gestures appeared in the conversation quite a bit. Oscar raised his eyebrow, thinking this meeting was about the conversation, and obeyed his orders, with Kaden following him close by. Oscar sat next to Charles, who smiled before wiggling in his chair and folding his arms.
"You know what's happening?" Oscar whispered, and Charles shrugged his shoulders.
"I thought you would know."
"What's up with this emergency meeting?" Amy spoke as she entered the room. Everyone looked surprised, with Rosa giving a low whistle, and Oscar chuckled as he grinned at Amy. She had a red dress that suited her ━ Red was her colour ━ and she revealed that she was going on a date. Oscar bit his tongue; a deep feeling knew that the date wouldn't happen tonight by the look on Captain Holt's face.
"Whoa, Detective Santiago! Big date tonight?" Terry said as he stood by the podium, waiting for Captain Holt. Amy gave a shy smile before sitting beside Oscar next to Kaden. She patted her dress down before placing her hands on her lap.
"How do I look?"
"Pretty good," Kaden said as they smiled at Amy.
"Hey, is this why you were getting makeup tips from the prostitute in the holding cell?" Rosa questioned.
"I just wanted to know how she got such smoky eyes... Turns out it was an STD rash."
"Detective Peralta has made a collar in the jewellery store heist," Captain Holt spoke before putting the files on the podium. Jake had made his way to the empty seat next to Charles, but a pang of guilt reddened his face.
"Way to go, Jakey!" Charles said as he held up his hand for a high━five, but Jake slowly put his hand down quickly.
"Ah, that's okay...."
"No. He didn't get sufficient evidence to make it stick, so we have the next 48 hours to fix his mistake," Captain Holt said, and immediately, the squad started to groan, throwing paper balls at Jake, who attempted to dodge them.
"Damn it, Jake!" Amy spoke as she laid back on her chair, frustrated.
"Sir, I need to pick up Liliana at half past 2; her school finishes earlier today," Oscar raised his hand, and Captain Holt nodded, understanding the situation.
"That's okay. You can take her back here, and she can remain in the break room. If we don't find something conclusive, it jeopardises that case and, therefore, opens the department up to a lawsuit. So, cancel your plans. We're here until this is over.
"Damn it, Peralta!" Rosa spoke before taking her legs off the table, hitting Jake's chair and contacting Jake's shoulder. Jake made a sound before reaching for his shoulder.
"I know everyone's mad at Peralta for ruining their weekend," Captain Holt spoke, folding his hands on the podium.
"But?" Jake raised his eyebrow, waiting to hear what else he had to say.
"That was it; I was just demonstrating for Detective Peralta what a fact is," Captain Holt said before dismissing the squad. Kaden tapped Oscar on the shoulder, telling him to talk to him soon. Oscar nodded before looking over at Jake. He noticed his face crease when he was upset. Jake exhaled and looked at Oscar before responding with a small but sad smile and walking towards the desk. Oscar hadn't realised that he was watching Jake as he sat down at his desk, and he noticed that Jake was also staring at him before Oscar looked away, feeling his ears tint red.
"When are you two going to get a room?"
"Jesus, Kaden! You don't just sneak up on people!"
"Heh, been taking advice from Rosa. Remember to grab the keys off me; she hates the bike," Kaden said. As Oscar was about to interject something into the conversation, they had already started to walk to his desk, preparing their sketches for interviews. Oscar sighed, thinking about what Kaden had said about him and Jake, and he tried to shake it off, heading towards Jake's desk to help with the investigation.
━━━━━━
⋆ "𝗔𝗠𝗘𝗦, 𝗢𝗦𝗖𝗔𝗥, 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗘 help with the interrogation," Jake said as he motioned the two to follow him. Oscar stood up, his chair slowly wheeling away from the desk, while Amy reluctantly followed Jake, still frustrated from having to be here. She had changed her clothes before the dress, her hair tied into a messy bun.
As they entered the room, Oscar could see Jake's suspect, Dustin Whitman. He was crossing his arms and looked very unsurprised and unamused. Oscar thanked Jake as he gave him the files on the case and started to look through the evidence that Jake had collected, but it was just bare bones. Oscar sighed, understanding the squad's frustration, but Oscar was patient; he wasn't quick to be furious.
"Planning your strategy?"
"No, I'm just making funny faces at him; this mirrored glass is awesome! It straight━up works!" Jake replied before realising that Amy wasn't laughing, and he cleared his throat, looking over to Oscar for at least some satisfaction. Oscar smiled, and Jake sighed before looking back at Amy, who crossed her arms.
"An effective use of your limited time," Amy said, tilting her head to prove a point.
"It is, actually! That's how I got him last time. Let him stew for a bit; it got in his head, and then he confessed!"
"You better be right," Amy spoke as Oscar handed her the evidence folder. Oscar cleared his throat, not wanting to be involved in the intensity of the conversation. Instead, he looked over to Dustin, who was scratching the back of his neck out of boredom.
"Hey, make some funny faces while I'm in there. I wanna see if I can tell," Jake said before entering the interrogation room. The room was now in a comfortable silence as the two stood beside each other, ready to watch it play out. They could hear Jake trying to make jokes.
"You know he can't hear us?"
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"You and Jake, huh?" Amy said with a smirk, and Oscar stuttered a sound out before avoiding Amy's glance. She chuckled, playfully poking Oscar's arm as he turned around, the same tint appearing on his ears.
"Kaden told me."
"Of course he did."
"Hey, Oscar, it's okay! Jake talks about you all the time; it's honestly adorable to see him like this. He's never like this around with other people, but I suppose it's the Die Hard effect," Amy smiled as she looked back to the room and noticed that Jake was about to leave it. Oscar secretly smiled, glad he was talking about it to Amy, and the door opened, presenting a stressed━out Jake, his face starting to crease with frustration.
"It didn't work; let's head out and notify the squad," Jake mumbled as he opened the door and headed to the Bullpen, with Oscar and Amy following close behind, unsure of what was happening with him. "So, it looks like we'll be here for a while. Should someone do a coffee run? You know what? Coffee's on me. Oh! But no froofy frappuccino or anything, I've only got, like━" Jake spoke as he faced the squad, but Amy had already taken the money and headed towards the elevator.
Oscar exhaled as he looked over to Jake, who looked overwhelmed with guilt about everything this evening. Oscar knew that he was hiding the fact that he was upset over ruining everyone's weekend, including his own. Oscar had to fight the urge to hug him and make him happy. But now wasn't an excellent time for him, so he backed off.
━━━━━━
⋆ 𝗔𝗦 𝗛𝗘 𝗪𝗔𝗦 about to check out more case files, trying to find anything more about Dustin or whether he had a partner; Oscar realised the time and stood up quickly to head towards Captain Holt's office.
"Sir? May I come in?"
"Yes, Winchester, have a seat."
"Sir, I was wondering if I could excuse myself to get my━"
"Ah, yes, of course. You are dismissed; take your time to get her," Captain Holt said as he put on his glasses. Oscar quickly thanked him as he started heading towards Kaden's desk, looking for his keys.
"Did you nearly forget?" Kaden said as he raised their eyebrow before chuckling a little. Oscar rolled his eyes as he grabbed the keys and headed towards the elevator.
"Oh! Don't drink my coffee; I'll return soon!" Oscar quickly yelled before the doors shut.
Time passed, and many songs played through the radio; Oscar and Liliana started to head up to the third floor of the 99th precinct. Liliana was already at Oscar's shoulders, but the weight of her backpack from school was on her shoulders, so she slumped slightly. The doors opened, and conversations paused to glance over to the elevator doors.
"Hey, uh, everyone! This is Liliana; she'll be spending the night with us as we work on the case," Oscar said before letting Liliana walk before him into the Bullpen. Liliana smiled as she waved towards the squad, knowing little information about them from Oscar and Kaden.
"You can sit with Detective Santiago━Amy━She's very nice. I do, however, advise you to stay away from Scully and Hitchcock unless you want to get strange warts on your body," Oscar said as she nodded slowly, a scared yet confused expression appearing in her eyes, and instead, headed towards Amy's desk.
"Good thinking, Ossy! I think she wouldn't like the smell of the ointment for my feet," Scully smiled as he adjusted his glasses before picking up a burrito.
"Hey! You can help me━" Amy started to speak, but she was interrupted by Liliana's sudden gasp as she reached out to Amy's desk, picking up a folder.
"Oh my god, is this a 200━clear━file binder with colourful tabs you can't get at stationery stores? This is so cool! Wait, can I show you my folder?" Liliana spoke as she rushed to get it out of her bag. Amy's eyes lit up, and the pair started worrying about office supplies. Oscar chuckled as he backed away from the conversation, knowing they would never stop.
"God, they're going to talk about this all night," Gina said as she bumped her head on the desk out of annoyance. Rosa scoffed softly while Kaden nodded slightly as a joke. Oscar rolled his eyes, keeping a smile nonetheless and headed towards his desk to look through the files again, thinking he had missed something in the first run━through.
━━━━━━
⋆ 𝗔𝗦 𝗗𝗔𝗪𝗡 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗬 hit the windows of the 99th precinct; the sunlight shone through the cracks of the blinds onto the detective's desks. New York City was already bustling at this time of the morning with the cars driving past. Oscar blinked open his eyes, slowly getting up as he cracked his back, wincing at the discomfort of sleeping at his desk. He regretted sleeping in this position, knowing it would bite him later in the week. He yawned as he reached for his glasses, which he hoped weren't cracked, as they fell off when he was sleeping on the desk.
"Rise and shine, detectives, rise and shine," Captain Holt said as he walked out of his office. Oscar blinked slowly, surprised that he slept in his office, looking the same as yesterday.
"Peralta, I want you to bring everyone up to speed," Captain Holt said to a tired━looking detective whose hair was tangled up, and Oscar didn't recognise him at first. He had soft curls that rested on his forehead and brown eyes that looked like they were glowing despite having slept in the corner of his eyes. In simpler terms, he was beautiful, even without hours of sleep.
"You slept in your office and look exactly the same!" Jake questioned him as he started to stand and stretch his limbs. The rest of the detectives started to do the same, and Oscar stared into the distance, trying to regain his surroundings from waking up.
"How? What are you talking about? My hair is a mess."
"Oh, yeah," Jake spoke, looking confused as ever, his curls still sticking to his forehead despite him trying to fix his hair, running his fingers through it. Oscar glanced over to the break room, where Liliana had dipped the couch, as she walked through the doorway. Her hair was a tangled mess, and she rubbed her eyes as she yawned.
"Briefing room, five minutes!" Terry said as he lifted two printers. Oscar leaned back, shocked as he lifted those as if they were a bag of grapes. Oscar chuckled nervously before backing away slowly and heading towards the briefing room.
"Ugh, I'm never eating in jeans again. Is there anything I could eat?"
"Oh! Check the fridge. Maybe Terry could give you one of his yoghurts if he will?" Oscar said before looking over to Terry, who nodded and directed her towards his mini fridge, where he kept his special yoghurts. Oscar hurried over to the briefing room; it had already started. As he entered the room, Oscar tripped over one of the tables. "Ugh, sorry, didn't get enough sleep because of Hitchcock's snoring," Oscar spoke (it came as a croak out of his throat, seeing as it was still early), adjusting his glasses as he got up quickly, recovering from the bump.
"You'll get used to that, anyway. First, I met our night janitor, Ronald; if you are missing hand sanitiser, he drank it. Second, our warrants finally went through. We must place Whitman at the scene and prove that he possessed or sold those diamonds. I know you're all tired, but forget why we're here. Because we're dedicated detectives!"
"Because Peralta jumped the gun."
"Yeah━"
"This isn't funny. You're ruining our weekend," Amy spoke before crossing her arms, her hair messier than yesterday. Oscar yawned again before his head started to hit the table in an attempt to fall asleep. He had made a grave mistake, with his sleep schedule being messed up, so he was easily vulnerable to passing out due to exhaustion. He couldn't hear the rest of the conversation the detectives were having, but he felt a tapping on his back.
"Hey, wake up, dear. We've finished the meeting."
"Oh, thank you, Gina. I hadn't realised that I had fallen asleep."
"It's all good, Freckles. Here's your coffee," Gina said as she gave him the coffee, placing it next to his head before ruffling his hair and heading out of the briefing room with Oscar following close behind.
━━━━━━
⋆ "𝗢𝗦𝗖𝗔𝗥? 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗦𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥 is officially my favourite person," Amy spoke as she rolled her chair over to Oscar's desk. He gave a low chuckle before raising his eyebrow at Amy's glasses. Amy rolled her eyes as she knew why he wasn't responding, and mock━punched him in the arm.
"Hey, guys," Jake said as he joined the conversation, noticing that Oscar was now holding his arm from the punch. "She punched you too?"
"What can I do?"
"Oh, your services will not be necessary, Amy, because you must go home and change for your date! I called the handsome Luke. I explained the weekend was entirely my fault, partially, and he wants to go out with you tonight."
"Thanks, Peralta!"
"You're welcome. Just... Promise me you won't use the condoms in the secret pocket of your purse, okay? They're expired," Jake said before snickering at Oscar's look of shock and Amy's surprised but embarrassed look.
"How do you know what's in my purse?"
"I needed concealer for a zit. Plus! We spend so much time together here; I know everything about everyone. I know Hitchcock went bald at fifteen, Scully used to date Hitchcock's wife, and Charles has a bike with a little basket on the front."
"How else would you carry baguettes!"
"Oscar had a snake when he was younger; I think the name was Herbert. And Rosa... Has a shower in her apartment, I think? I got nothing on her."
"Well, I guess we did just spend 48 hours locked in here together," Amy spoke, making Jake pause, and a sudden realisation appeared on his face. A light appeared in his eyes.
"Holy crap."
"What?"
"Locked in here together," Jake spoke before grabbing his files and heading towards the interrogation room. Oscar sighed, knowing he had finally solved the case, and laid his head on the desk, closing his eyes for a small rest.
━━━━━━
⋆ "𝗦𝗢𝗥𝗥𝗬 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗦𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗚 up everyone's weekend. Hey, uh, drinks on me! Who's in?" Jake spoke as the rest of the squad headed towards the elevator for a lovely short weekend and a proper rest for Oscar so his body could catch up and recover. The case was finally solved, and Whitman was imprisoned after Jake solved it. Oscar heard some of the detectives disagree, saying they had plans.
"Everyone's tired, Peralta. They just want to go home."
"Yeah, but I have to prove I'm not selfish, so I don't care what they want! That sounded bad. To make up for what I did, I'll cover one shift each for all of you," Jake said as he smiled.
"No kidding?"
"Except Santiago."
"What?"
"I got you your date back. One nice thing from me is all you get!" Jake chuckled. Oscar smiled and entered the elevator, with Kaden and Liliana squeezing in. He felt something inside him, and he was glad he decided not to bury it deep within himself. After all, he had decided to put his emotions before his thoughts. Sometimes, that is needed, which paid off for Oscar today.
"Hey, Oscar?" Jake whispered as Oscar leaned in.
"Yeah?"
"Thank you for sticking with me. It made me happy," Jake said as he gave a minor thumbs━up, to which Oscar couldn't help but respond with the same action. Before Oscar could say something, Charles had been in the middle and thought it was a hug, pulling all three of them into one massive (and awkward) hug in the elevator. Jake and Oscar's faces had nearly bumped into each other, but a quick adjustment was made to include Charles.
"Guys, stop pushing; it's an elevator!"
"I just love emotions!"
"We know, Charles."
