Yoongi was sitting on the couch, watching Jimin color when his phone buzzed in his pocket. It was a text from his boss, asking if he could go with him on a business trip this weekend, as the last sales manager had to drop out. Yoongi replied yes without really thinking about it, not remembering that he now had a toddler to take care of. Yoongi look down at at Jimin who carried on coloring, the picture of a kitten almost complete.
"Hey, Jimin, I'm going to go to the store, do you need anything?" Yoongi asked, reaching over the side of the couch for his shoes. He noticed a large pile of discarded crayons on the floor next to them and he sighed. Jimin absolutely refused to use the blunt ones, even after Yoongi sharpened them with an old pencil sharpener he'd found.
Jimin looked up, his eyes alight as he started counting things off on his fingers. "Chicken nuggets, animal crackers, gummy snacks, macaroni—"
"Let me stop you right there, Jiminie. I'll pick up whatever I find. Do you want any big food while I'm out?" Yoongi asked. Jimin wrinkled his nose and Yoongi nodded, taking it as a no. He walked to the kitchen and pushed the knives against the wall and hid the soda behind some things in the refrigerator before leaving Jimin to his own devices.
Yoongi wandered around the store, unsure of wear to get chicken nuggets. He hadn't bought any since his cousin's fifth birthday party, and even then he'd been at the cosy corner store close to his home in Daegu, not at a large connivence store in Seoul that had everything ranging from animal crackers to car tires.
As he passed the toy aisle Yoongi paused momentarily, his cart squeaking against the floor when he stopped. Yoongi turned down the aisle, deciding that he'd just pick up Jimin some new crayons to use while he was away. A new twenty-four pack and he'd be on his way to the freezer aisle for frozen food he new Jimin could cook while he gone without hurting himself.
Yoongi looked down at the assortment of coloring utensils, staring at them dubiously. There were crayons, markers, stamps, gel tip pens– too many choices for an indecisive person like Yoongi to decide on just one. So he picked up crayons, markers, and a new coloring book before forcing himself out of the craft aisle.
Pushing his cart towards the food aisles once more, Yoongi couldn't believe how ridiculous all of this was. He was buying crayons and children's finger foods for a grown man. He was legitimately worried about leaving a grown man at home for three days alone. Yoongi contemplating asking Jimin to stay in big space while he was away, and he knew Jimin would force himself to. This was the exact reason Yoongi couldn't ask him to do it. He didn't want the poor boy to be miserable the whole time he was away by forcing him into a mindset that made him stressed.
Yoongi pulled his phone out of his pocket and put it in between his shoulder and his ear. He looked around for the chicken nuggets as he waited for Jin to pick up, tapping his foot in frustration when he couldn't find them.
"Hello?" Jin asked. Yoongi could tell he was tired, and with Jungkook running around, Yoongi couldn't blame him. From what Jimin had told him, Jungkook was a little brat that needed to be taught a thing or two about manners. Yoongi assumed that's what Jin was doing the other night, teaching him manners.
"Hey, I'm going on a business trip and am going to be out of town this weekend and on Monday. Do you mind stopping in every once and a while to check on Jimin?" Yoongi asked, squinting at the freezer. Where were the damn chicken nuggets? "Also, do you know where the chicken nuggets in the super market are?"
"Third freezer down in the frozen food aisle. I won't be able to stay with him, though. I can check in on him at night, maybe take Kookie and Namjoon over for dinner or something, but I can't stay with him." Jin said. Yoongi pushed his cart further down the frozen food aisle and was proposed another decision – dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets, or regular chicken nuggets. The choice was obvious.
"That's fine, there's not need to stay with him. I just don't want him to be alone the whole time, you know?" Yoongi said. He looked down at his cart, checking off the things that Jimin had said he wanted, and the few other things he thought Jimin would need. One of these things were a surplus of Spongebob bandaids, just in case.
"Yeah, okay so I'll take him dinner every night and make sure he bathes. Maybe if he looks sad enough I'll tell Kookie I'll leave him if he doesn't straighten up..." Jin trailed off and Yoongi laughed a little as he put his things onto the conveyor belt.
"Alright, hyung, I've got to go. Talk to you later." Yoongi hung up and shoved his phone into his pocket so he could stack the rest of the things up. Something caught his attention out of the corner of his eye, but he left it, thinking that Jimin didn't need anything other than what he'd already bought him.
When Yoongi got home Jimin was nowhere to be found. He dropped the bags on the counter and looked in his room, thinking that maybe Jimin had fallen asleep in his bed again, but the boy wasn't there either, and he wasn't in his room. Yoongi was about to call him and ask where the hell he went without telling Yoongi first, but stopped upon hearing muted giggles from behind the bathroom door.
"Jimin?" Yoongi called quietly as he knocked on the door. Jimin's giggles stopped abruptly and Yoongi could hear the sloshing of water as Jimin got out of the bathtub.
"Yes, hyung?" Jimin asked, peeking his head out of the bathroom door. Yoongi took in Jimin's current state, from his water-flattened hair to the soap beard resting on his chin. Yoongi also noticed that Jimin was standing completely naked in front of him without a spec of bashfulness. Must be the little kid in him, Yoongi thought.
"Just wondered if you were home, is all. You can go back to your bath now." Yoongi said. Jimin nodded and as he turned away Yoongi could see that the bubbles were overflowing the tub and spilling onto the floor. Jimin's clothes were soaked, as were the two floor rugs Yoongi's mom had bought them for Christmas. "Jimin, how many bubbles did you use?"
"Um..." Jimin said quietly, looking over his shoulder. "All of them?"
Yoongi laughed and bent down to untie his shoes. He kicked them off and peeled off his socks before rolling up his pants and stepping into the bathroom. The bubbles moved away from him as he walked and he reached into the bathtub to turn off the faucet, thankful that he hadn't spent enough time at the store for Jimin to flood their whole apartment.
"Silly boy, you're only supposed to use a little bit for each bath. Now I'll have to go out and buy more." Yoongi said. He picked up some of the bubbles and looked over at the frowning Jimin before smearing them over his face. Jimin squealed and picked up some of the bubbles in his own hands and threw them at Yoongi, the bubbles landing on his shirt and soaking through to his chest. "You're going to regret that."
Jimin squealed and began to run out of the bathroom, but Yoongi caught him easily and covered his head in bubbles, making the younger boy shriek. Jimin pushed Yoongi backwards and he fell into the bathtub, soaking the back of his jeans. Yoongi reached into his coat pocket and grabbed out his phone, made sure it still worked and then threw it haphazardly into the living room, praying that it landed on the couch.
"Hyung, I'm so so sorry I didn't mean to push you into the bath–" Yoongi cut Jimin off by pulling him down into the bath next to him, and the water sloshed from inside the tub onto the towel floor. Yoongi was going to have a lot to clean up, but in the moment he didn't really care. Jimin seemed to suddenly realize he was naked and turned around in the tub so his back was facing Yoongi.
"Have you washed your hair yet, Jiminie?" Yoongi asked. Jimin shook his head and Yoongi grabbed his shampoo, squirting some into his hand before rubbing it into Jimin's hair. The younger boy sighed in content and leaned back against Yoongi's clothed chest. It was a bit uncomfortable, being completely soaked and weighed down by his heavy clothes. Yoongi shrugged off his jacket, but decided to stop there. He could deal with the chafing, he'd be okay.
"Close your eyes," Yoongi said quietly. He covered Jimin's eyes for good measure before dumping water over his head to wash the shampoo out. The only sounds that could be heard were the sounds of the water moving and Jimin's relaxed, steady breaths. Yoongi decided to cut Jimin's bath short – his shampoo was two in one anyhow – and pulled the younger boy up so he could wrap a fluffy towel around him. "Go get ready for bed, I'm going to clean this up."
Yoongi took another towel and started wiping the floor as the tub drained. He picked up Jimin's soaked clothes and put them in the sink, deciding to let them dry there overnight before putting them in the laundry hamper. After he changed into dry clothes he went to Jimin's room to see him snuggled under the blankets, teddy bear held close to his side.
"Oh, wait," Yoongi ran to the kitchen and quickly put away the food and grabbed Jimin's new crayons off the counter. He walked back to Jimin's room with a smile on his face, and Jimin sat up in bed when he saw what Yoongi was holding. "I figured you needed some new crayons, since the old ones were getting so flat. I also bought some markers, and a new coloring book to keep you busy while I'm away."
Jimin's smile faltered and he tilted his head slightly. "Away?"
"I'm going on a business trip this weekend, I'll be gone until Monday. But Jin hyung is going to come over every night with Jungkook and Namjoon and you guys are going to have dinner together, okay?" Yoongi said, trying to make his voice as soft as possible. Jimin looked beyond upset, and wetness was gathering at the edges of his eyes. "No, no, Jimin don't cry. I'll be back first thing Monday morning, okay? I won't be gone long."
"I don't want you to leave," Jimin sniffled. Yoongi sighed and wrapped his arms around Jimin and the younger boy rested his head against Yoongi's shoulder. Jimin held onto Yoongi's shirt tightly, as if Yoongi were going to leave him right that second. "Can I come with you?"
Yoongi sighed and ran his hands through Jimin's hair. "No, baby, I'm sorry. But you can't come with. You would have to be big, and I don't want you to be uncomfortable. I'd rather you be here where you can be you."
"I can be big! Hyung, please let me come with you. Please." Jimin begged. Yoongi sighed again and shook his head, running his thumbs under Jimin's eyes to wipe away the tears.
"No, Jimin. You can't come." Yoongi said, trying to use the voice he'd heard Jin use on Jungkook so many times before. Jimin seemed to understand that Yoongi meant business, and he cast his eyes downward and his mouth pulled into a pout. Yoongi sighed – how many times did that make it? – and pushed the crayons off the bed before laying down next to Jimin. He pulled the covers up over both of them and turned off Jimin's lamp before wrapping his arms around the younger boy and letting Jimin rest his head on his chest.
"Goodnight, hyung." Jimin said quietly, his breath fanning over Yoongi chest. Jimin snuggled closer to him, bear almost forgotten until it's arm flopped into Yoongi's face, making Jimin giggle. "Go away, Cornelius. I'll cuddle with you later."
"Yeah, Cornelius. Buzz off." Jimin laughed and Yoongi pushed the bear over so it wouldn't fall onto him again. He squeezed Jimin one time for good measure before kissing the top of his head affectionately. "Goodnight, Jimin."
