WARNING- I may or may not have cried when I wrote this. I did sniffle, though.
"
Gabriel...Agreste?" The name fell from Chat's lips in a soft whisper.
"Hawkmoth." Ladybug narrowed her eyes at him.
"You're going down."
She spun her yoyo, about to deal the first blow-
And Chat was fleeing, his tail streaming behind his legs.
"Awww, is the little kitty scared?" Hawkmoth taunted.
Ladybug wasn't sure who she was more angry at, Hawkmoth or Chat Noir.
She shot a glare in Hawkmoth's- No, Gabriel Agreste's- direction and zipped away in pursuit.
She found him on top of her school. He was standing, staring at the moon.
She released her fury.
"What was that for? We had him, Chat! We could have defeated him once and for all!"
She glared at him, breathing heavily, adrenaline powering her every move.
"I was just...surprised." Chat said quietly.
Ladybug's anger drained out of her. She had been rather surprised too. Who would have thought Gabriel Agreste, her idol, was Hawkmoth, her enemy?
Ladybug walked over and stood next to him.
"I guess it was unexpected. I mean, why would a man who already has pretty much everything he wanted want more?"
Chat looked down at his feet.
"He didn't have everything." He said in a voice so quiet it was a wonder Ladybug could hear.
"He lost his wife a few years ago. He hasn't been the same since. If only Adrien had noticed. He could have stopped this. It's all his fault."
Ladybug could feel the anger bubbling, festering, flaring inside her. It wasn't Adrien's fault! How dare Chat Noir say that!
She forced the anger down. Chat Noir would be suspicious if she started defending Adrien this much.
"Chat Noir, you know better than to put blame on an innocent civilian."
"Ladybug?"
"Yes?"
"This is all my fault."
Chat Noir looked at her.
Ladybug was shocked.
Chat Noir was crying.
Now, Ladybug knew her partner was many things. He was egotistical, he made terrible puns, he flirted way too much, and never took anything seriously.
But Chat was never sad. How many times had Ladybug ranted to him about Chloe, and all the terrible things that happened in her life, and he comforted her? Chat Noir, however, never talked about his civilian life. When Ladybug asked one day, he simply stated that he preferred not to talk about it.
Ladybug never pursued the matter again.
Maybe she should have.
Because the Chat Noir that stood in front of her was broken.
"Chaton...it's not your fault. How is it your fault?"
Tears still slid past Chat's cheeks.
"You don't understand, Ladybug. You don't know who I am. I could have helped him. I COULD HAVE HELPED HIM!"
Chat screamed at the sky, tears running down his cheeks.
"Kitty, it wasn't your fault. Gabriel Agreste would still be Hawkmoth. You couldn't have convinced him."
"But I could've." Chat whispered.
"You couldn't. Kitty, does Gabriel even know you?"
Chat put a fist to his mouth. Ladybug somehow knew that she made things worse.
"It's all my fault. Everything is all my fault. Ladybug...I'm so tired."
Chat looked at her, eyes red.
"I want everything to go away."
Ladybug hugged Chat. She didn't know what was going on, but she was there for him.
He was always there for her.
She was returning the favour.
"Chat...can you tell me what's wrong?"
He spoke, muffled against her suit.
"But I'd reveal my identity."
Ladybug hesitated. His identity? But...
She looked at Chat. She felt something wet on her hair. She didn't have to touch it to know it was tears.
"It's...it's ok." She spoke softly.
"I...I know Gabriel." He whispered against her hair. She could still feel the tears slipping down from his cheeks and into her hair.
"He's...he's my..."
Ladybug pulled Chat away from her and looked into his striking green eyes, overflowing with tears.
"You can tell me." Ladybug spoke in that same voice.
"He's my father."
Ladybug's jaw threatened to drop.
Gabriel Agreste only had one son.
Which meant...
"Adrien?"
More tears started.
"Now you see why it's all my fault?"
Ladybug hugged Chat so hard it hurt her arms. But she wasn't letting go. Chat needed her help. Adrien needed her help.
"Oh, Chaton. It's not your fault. He had a choice. If he chose to become Hawkmoth, you, his wonderful, amazing, talented son couldn't have stopped him. Love makes you do dangerous things. It's. Not. Your. Fault."
Chat hugged her tight.
"Thanks, Ladybug." He croaked out.
Ladybug smiled softly against his suit. She knew Chat wasn't OK yet. She knew it would take a long time for him to be ok again. But he was starting.
And with Ladybug with him, what could go wrong?
It was supposed to end more depressing, but...*shrugs*
Also, please don't kill me for the next one I have planned...*smirks evilly*
