Status Report
Kana laid awake in her room, alone. A candle flickered from beside her and she hummed to herself as she waited.
"Kana,"
Kana looked over the edge of the bed, watching as a figure rose out of the floor. Half black and half white with a venus fly trap over top.
"Zetsu, how are you?" Kana asked out of politeness.
"Fine, thanks for asking," Zetsu said in a cheery voice. "We came for a status report from you. Have you managed to convince them to join us?"
"Yes, I have." Kana nodded. "We cannot head back immediately though."
"Why?" The darker half of Zetsu growled.
"Zabuza must complete a mission first, then the three of us will head back." She replied.
"Three of you?" Black Zetsu asked. "Three?"
"Yes, the boy with Zabuza is coming as well, he has a great amount of potential and is also skilled in medicine." Kana said with a straight face.
"Will Pein-sama allow that?" Zetsu asked.
"Tell him that I can use Haku as a sparring partner," Kana said. "We can also do smaller missions. Like infiltration for example."
"Alright, we'll try to convince him." White Zetsu sighed.
"Thank you, Zetsu!" She chirped.
White Zetsu smiled, his face then lighting up.
"One last thing," He said. "Leader-sama had found another possible recruit, one he wants you to help bring in."
"Why though?" Kana asked.
"His description and predicament is eerily similar to your own." Black Zetsu said. "He escaped from Orochimaru and is now running rampant around the newly formed Land of Sound. His victims are nothing but bone when they are found and dental records must be used to identify them. Sometimes people found are missing entire limbs, like he just ripped it off and left."
"I feel like there's more to it." Kana said suspiciously.
"There is." White Zetsu replied. "He has white hair too, and witness reports say he has one red eye. His age is estimated to be more like 17 or 18 though."
"There's someone like me out there?" Kana asked, her hands trembling.
"Pein-sama will tell you more when you return." Zetsu said. "We must return now, goodbye."
"Bye." Kana replied.
Zetsu sank through the floor and Kana laid back down on her bed in disbelief.
There was someone like her out there.
Somewhere.
~~~~~
The next morning Kana was surprised to be woken up first by Haku. He greeted her with a smile, his hair neatly put up in a bun and dressed for battle.
"Morning." Kana yawned, slipping her feet over the edge of her bed.
"Morning," Haku smiled. "I have some food made if you'd like any and Zabuza-sama has something to tell us."
"Alright, I'll be out in five." Kana sighed, standing up and stretching an arm over her head.
Haku nodded and politely left the room, leaving Kana to get ready. She slipped off her night clothes and put on her regular clothes, strapping her kodachi to her lower back and tying her headband around her shoulder.
She pulled a hairbrush from her nightstand and brushed through her long, thick, white hair. She then tied it into a ponytail for the day. She slipped on her sandals, tapping on the heels and toes before leaving her room.
She made her way down the hall and into the small living/dining area, where Haku and Zabuza were seated with a plate of food in front of each of them.
"Would you like anything to eat?" Haku asked.
Kana glanced at the plate of fried eggs. "No thank you."
Haku sat back in his chair with a sigh. "You've really got me curious now."
Kana just chuckled, a finger pressed to her lips.
"Listen up kids," Zabuza grunted, staring each of them down. "Today's the day, we're finishing the mission and then heading to Ame."
Kana cheered. "Finally!"
"Both of you be ready for a fight, the old man has Konohagakure shinobi guarding him." Zabuza scowled.
"Yeah, I know," Kana sighed. "I travelled here on the same boat as them. The genin consider me their friend."
"Perfect, you will be the one that they will trust, letting you closer to them." Zabuza grinned. "I want you to show up later in the battle and pretend you are helping them, then you can switch sides."
"Understood." Kana nodded.
"Great, we head out after breakfast, then we wait."
Kana bit her lip. She felt guilty as any human would, but this was all for peace, and nothing could be gained without sacrifices.
~~~~~
"You both remember the plan?" Kana asked, looking at her two summons.
"Yeah, I help Haku if he needs it after you give the signal," Yuki replied. "Gray stays with you and scoops up Tazuna when you give the signal."
"Remember to listen to any commands from Zabuza as well, he's the master behind all this." Kana added, adjusting the tiny microphone that hung from her ear.
She turned the knob, tapping the mic.
"Can you hear me?" She asked.
"Yeah, I can hear you just fine." Haku replied, his mic hidden behind his mask.
Haku gave Zabuza a thumbs up to tell him that her mic was on. Kana watched the bridge from the forest, observing Haku and Zabuza as they went about knocking out the bridge workers. Haku moved them to the side, then taking a seat on the edge of the bridge to wait. Zabuza leaned on his sword, glancing at the spot I was hiding in.
"Now we wait." Kana whispered, to Haku and her wolves.
Gray curled up at her feet with a huff. "I hate waiting."
Yuki rolled her eyes and also laid down, keeping her blue eyes trained on the bridge. Kana sat back, leaning against Yuki as she sharpened her kodachi and kunai on a small stone. All they had to do, was wait.
~~~~~
Kakashi followed closely behind Tazuna, Sakura and Sasuke. It was an especially foggy day, and the bridge was quiet, too quiet. Naruto was also still sleeping because he was up too late training.
"Sensei..." Sakura gasped once they had stepped onto the bridge.
Kakashi's eyes quickly adjusted to the fog, staring at the unconscious bodies that littered the bridge. He spotted two figures in the fog, one extremely tall and the other no taller than Sasuke. Upon closer inspection, he realized that it was Zabuza and his accomplice.
"Just hand over the old man and we'll be on our merry way." Zabuza smirked, adjusting his blade.
Haku pulled out a few senbon, holding the long needles between his knuckles and standing next to his master. A mask with a red wave and Kirigakure's symbol carved into the forehead was fastened to his face. Sakura stared at him with disbelief, most likely already aware that he was helping Zabuza, but still hoping that it wasn't true. Sasuke looked more eager than anything.
Kana strained her ears to hear what they said but focused more on their body language. Zabuza created ten water clones, which quickly surrounded the group. Zabuza glanced at Kana's hiding spot and nodded.
Yuki, Gray and Kana leapt up, down to the battle, right in front of Sasuke. The three of them destroyed the clones in a mere instant, standing before the Konoha shinobi.
"Kana!" Sakura exclaimed.
Kana smiled at her, she tried to look as happy as possible.
She wasn't happy in the slightest.
