Snakes
"Is it alright if I hold onto the scroll?" Azumi asked, yelling above the rushing wind.
"Yeah, I'm a frontline fighter, I'll defend you." Kana replied confidently.
"Perfect." Azumi smirked.
She whipped out a scroll and sealed their own inside of it, tucking it back into her coat.
"I can be on defence or offence, my ice release can be used either way." Haku said. "I'll help whoever needs it."
Kana's nose twitched.
"There's a team up ahead!" Kana informed them.
"We'll engage them and take their scroll, if we don't need it we can always bargain with another team." Azumi said.
"Good plan, let's surround them and ambush them." Haku suggested.
"Alright, Haku and I have got the front and sides, you get them from behind Azumi." Kana said.
"Roger." Haku and Azumi replied.
~~~~~
"I'm surprised we haven't encountered any teams yet." A young girl from Suna said to her team. "Thank Kami we haven't run into the freak."
"Don't be so loud!" A shy, nervous boy stammered. "What if he heard you?"
"He's not here," Another female scoffed. "My sensing range isn't large, but he isn't within listening distance at least."
The tree's just above them rustled, but it wasn't a team that jumped down. Just a single person, clad in black.
"Where's your team?" The Suna leader asked hostily, going on the defensive.
"Don't need one." He replied smoothly.
His first knuckle cracked and the Suna genin flinched.
"Are you not in the exam?" She asked, steadying her voice.
"I'm just helping someone." He grinned.
~~~~~
Kana's nose twitched again, but in it's own pattern, as if she was double-checking to make sure she was right.
"What is it?" Azumi asked, glancing back at the silent Kana.
"A friend is approaching from in front of us," Kana replied. "He will run into us in about thirty seconds."
Twenty seconds passed in relative silence before a figure burst through the tress, adjusting themself so that they were hopping from tree to tree in between Kana and Haku.
"I brought a present." He smirked, tossing a heaven scroll to Azumi when she turned around.
"And who are you?" She asked, a hostile bite in her tone.
"Kaneki, and I'm just trying to help." He replied.
"We already have a heaven scroll, so we don't need this one." Azumi scoffed, preparing to toss it back.
"Keep it, you may be able to use it to bargain with another team." Kaneki said. "You think you're the only team with two scrolls?"
"Fair enough." Azumi begrudgingly agreed, tucking the second scroll away with the first.
"So where are you going?" Kaneki asked, more so talking to Kana than anyone else.
"Towards the river most like-" Haku was cut off by a loud, earthshaking noise, followed by a sudden small gust of wind.
"What the hell?" Kana asked, her head snapping to their right.
"That wasn't the wind," Haku said. "It was a wind jutsu."
"I smell blood." Kana blurted out. "Someone's fighting, rough."
Kaneki nodded. "It's not a lot of blood, but close enough that I can smell it."
"What should we do?" Haku asked.
Azumi paused to think about it.
"Let's go, we may be able to take a scroll for ourselves." She decided. "We can help anyone who needs it and barter later."
The group veered off course towards the battle. A pit was growing in Kana's stomach, and with every leap, it got deeper. At first it was just a wall of scents, but now she could tell them apart.
The scary thing was that she recognized all of them. One of which she hoped she'd never have to encounter again.
~~~~~
It was all happening too fast for poor Naruto to process. He had been knocked around by a wind jutsu, confronted by a creepy Lady, and now she wants to kill them (except Sasuke) and give him a 'gift.'
Honestly his day could not get any worse.
Sakura attempted to herd the slimy bastard around with kunai while Sasuke showered the enemy with fireballs. Naruto jumped in to try and land a hit when he could, dodging and killing snakes that showed up.
He'd already been eaten by one giant snake, he didn't want to be eaten by a second.
On top of this shitstorm of events, he also had that furry nuisance whispering things to him again.
"Summoning Jutsu!"
Yet another damn snake appeared, rearing its head and locking onto Naruto with beady black eyes.
"You've got to be kidding me!" Naruto angrily exclaimed. "How many big snakes do you have?!"
The summoner didn't reply, he just sicced his snake on the poor tired Naruto.
Sasuke was low on stamina, Sakura was low on kunai, and Naruto was low on hope. The tired team was on the verge of hopelessness.
But four individuals burst through the clearing, landing beside team Kakashi.
Azumi shivered. "Man I hate snakes."
"After today you're not alone." Naruto scoffed.
"So glad you could join the party," A smooth taunting voice cackled. "I thought I'd lost you both."
"Orochimaru," Kaneki hissed. "Even with your shitty disguise I'd recognize that foul smell anywhere."
Kana steadied herself. It wasn't feel she felt, nor anger. Rather, it was a feeling of being determined to rid herself of someone like Orochimaru, the man who made it so that she would never be able to be human.
"And the little one, I thought you had died," He hissed. "What a pleasant surprise."
Kana clenched her fist.
"My name is Kana, nothing else." Kana hissed right back.
"I wonder, who picked you up?" Orochimaru snickered.
"That's none of your concern." She growled.
"I'll find out for myself then!"
Orochimaru dashed forward in a burst of speed.
Kaneki was quick to intercept, using a kunai to block the sword he had drawn. They pushed against each other, neither one of them gaining ground. Kaneki dropped the kunai, letting the sword fall into his shoulder. He used Orochimaru's small moment of surprise to kick him in the chest, sending him flying back.
He rolled once before getting to his feet. He grinned sadistically when his sword was tossed to the ground by Kaneki, who didn't have a scratch on him.
"Die."
Kaneki didn't shout, he spoke at normal volume, but the weight of his words was clear, and the intention to kill was there. He wasn't kidding.
Kaneki and Kana engaged Orochimaru while everyone engaged his summoms, narrowing them down one by one.
Azumi finally drew her sword, weaving in between targets and making quick, persice slashes. Haku supported Azumi from behind, firing senbon and ice at the snakes, trying to blind them. The two of them defended Sasuke, Sakura, and Naruto as they regained their strength.
"Summoning Jutsu!"
In two large clouds of smoke appeared before Kana and out stepped her two favourite summers.
"A fight?!" Gray exclaimed. "Finally! A fight!"
Yuki sighed. "Focus, idiot."
"Gray, Yuki, restrain him." Kana ordered, glaring at Orochimaru.
To counter them, he summoned yet another snake. Gray and Yuki then focused on the snake that was trying to kill them.
"Guess I'll have to do it myself then." Kana sighed.
Her back bubbled purple before four purple tentacles with spear like tips ripped from her back. Kaneki followed her example, and four red tentacles came from his back.
Orochimaru cackled in glee.
"Marvellous!" He exclaimed. "Come! Give me a challenge!"
At this point, nothing was all that surprising. Everyone gave the two a glance before continuing what they were doing. Distractions were not something they could afford.
Haku pierced the giant snake's eye and it let out a hellish scream before vanishing. Gray and Yuki viciously attacked the snake that was after them until it was bloody and forced to disappear.
Orochimaru pulled out a kunai and charged it with chakra, wind chakra clearly as the layer swirled around the kunai but was clearly sharp. He whipped the kunai into the trees, and a giant branch snapped, but not above Kana and Kaneki.
Azumi grabbed Haku and dashed away, Sasuke was quick to get out of danger as well. But Sakura was not as fast as them. Naruto clenched his first and dove forward shoving Sakura out of the way. All he heard was a scream.
"NARUTO!"
A/N
