An extra-long ending chapter for y'all! It's almost exactly 2000 words!

~~A Week Later~~

"I assume you've read over all the information I've given you?"

"Yes, I've already gone over it all." Kaneki replied, nodding at his new leader.

Pein laced his fingers together, leaning forward. "Then go and meet your new subordinates, they've been informed of your arrival. The address should be on the back of the paper, hopefully, it won't be too difficult for you to find."

"I'll be going then," Kaneki said, walking back towards the office door. "See you later."

With that, he left, beginning to make his way down to the main floor. He flipped the black hood of his newly designed outfit over his white hair, taking a moment to pull his bangs out from under his Ame headband. He tilted the new headband, making it cover his left eye.

On his way down, he passed the open doors of a training room, his gaze locking onto the two figures inside.

"Come on!" Kana urged the blonde. "You can do better than that!"

The boy sat up, giving Kana an annoyed look before forming hand signs again. He spat out a fireball, albeit, not a very large one. It landed on the ground before him and quickly dissipated.

Kana groaned. "Come on Naruto!"

Naruto glared at the ground, his head snapping back up. "Let me try again!"

Kana nodded, however, she was quickly distracted when she saw Kaneki.

"Kaneki!" She exclaimed, also making Naruto turn to look. "How long have you been standing there?"

"Only for a minute," He replied. "I was curious as to what you two were doing."

"Right now I'm trying to get Naruto accustomed to using different types of Jutsu," Kana replied. "But so far he's only gotten the hang of wind."

"Keep at it, you'll get it." Kaneki shrugged.

"Do you want to train with us?" Naruto asked eagerly.

"I can't, I have somewhere I need to be." Kaneki replied with a sigh.

"See you later then!" Kana chirped.

"Yeah," Kaneki nodded. "See you."

He then continued, making it outside without any more distractions.

His feet sloshed through the streets as he walked, glancing at the now soggy piece of paper with waterproof ink on it. He glanced at the buildings around him, stopping before what looked like a police station once he was certain he had the right place.

He walked inside, finding the counter unmanned. A cold welcome, he thought. He then flipped the paper over, eyes landing on the word 'downstairs.'

So he searched for a staircase, grinning to himself when he found it. He opened the door, beginning his trek down the dark staircase.

When he reached the bottom, he found several pool tables, a couple of card tables, and plenty of other recreational things. Once he stepped off of the stairs, they all turned to look at him, all of them fully dressed in their gear, masks and swords clipped to their belts.

"Who the hell are you?" A tall man with a scar on his cheek barked, standing at least half a foot taller than Kaneki.

Kaneki smirked. "I'm the guy in charge now."

~~Back at the Tower~~

Naruto fell onto his back, gasping for air as chakra exhaustion kicked in.

"Fine, I guess it's time for a break!" Kana chirped, tossing Naruto a bottle of water.

Popping open another bottle, Kana took a seat next to Naruto, taking a sip of water.

"This is hard..." Naruto huffed, wiping his mouth with his sleeves.

"It gets easier," Kana said, patting his back. "I promise."

Naruto smiled tiredly, taking another huge gulp of water. His eyes drifted to the doorway, landing on a man he hadn't talked to much since arriving in Ame.

"Kisame!" Kana chirped. "What brings you here? Do you want to train with us?!"

"No, actually..." Kisame trailed off, sighing. "Something's up with Itachi, he's been... Off."

"I noticed that too..." Kana replied thoughtfully. "Should I go talk to him?"

"I think you should," Kisame nodded. "I haven't been able to get anything out of him, but he has a soft spot for you."

"Then I'll go talk to him now." Kana said, quickly standing up.

She swiftly left the room, leaving the Shark Man and Naruto alone. Naruto nervously glanced up at the man, offering him a sheepish smile. Kisame smiled a toothy grin back.

~~~~~
The man doubled over with laughter, his fellow ANBU members also snickering quietly at Kaneki.
"How old are you, sixteen?" A woman asked, a hand on her hip.
"I'm eighteen, and I'm now in charge," Kaneki growled. "So submit now or I'll beat you into submission."
The man stomped over to him, poking his finger into Kaneki's chest every time he spoke. "Make. Me. Kid."
One second he was standing, and the next, he was pinned underneath Kaneki, one arm held behind his back.
"Get off of me!" He roared, but no one moved to help him.
"Uh... Shinji?" A young man gasped. "He's holding you down... With one arm."
The man, now dubbed "Shinji," stopped struggling.
"Good," Kaneki smirked. "Now for introductions. My name's Kaneki, but you can all call me captain, I've decided I don't like you."
It took a moment, but his response was loud and clear.
"Yes, Captain!"
~~~~~

Kana knocked softly at the door, rocking on the balls of her feet as she impatiently waited for an answer. Slowly, the wooden door creaked open, Itachi poking only his head out.

"Kana, what do you need?" Itachi asked, his expression softening.

"Actually, I wanted to talk to you!" She chirped. "Everyone's been worried about you because you haven't left your room much."

"Oh, I'm fine, I'm just very tired from all the missions I've had to take on recently," Itachi answered. "I'm fine."

"Nii-san," Kana sighed. "The last mission you and Kisame took was a week ago!"

Itachi's eyes widened minutely. "It's been a week?"

Kana nodded, crossing her arms in obvious irritation. "You certainly look tired, but I don't think it's the missions."

Itachi's shoulders slumped, his entire posture becoming slouched. He bit his lip and ducked his head, knowing he was weak to the girl, especially when she called him 'brother,' it reminded him of Sasuke.

"Come in," He sighed, shaking his head. "You would've found out eventually anyway, you're quite aware of those around you."

Kana frowned, following Itachi into the room. Immediately after reaching his bed, Itachi sat down, seeming to feel unstable on his feet. Kana rushed to his side, grabbing his shoulders as they began to shake with him. He coughed into his fist, wheezing for air after every cough.

His hand came away red.

~~~~~
Kaneki kicked his feet up onto his new desk, finding that it was coated in a thin layer of dust. Standing before him was a woman, maybe twenty years old or so. He recognized her from earlier, however, she now just stood there, fiddling with her fingers.
"Speak up already," Kaneki sighed. "You just standing there irritates me."
"Sorry, Sir!" She squeaked, straightening her posture. "I came to... Well, I came to apologize, about what I said earlier."
"I appreciate the effort, but don't worry about it," Kaneki replied, glancing at her from over his toes. "Use this as a learning experience, remember that there are people out there younger than you that are much stronger than you."
"Sir!" She bowed. "Thank you."
"Don't worry about it," Kaneki shrugged. "Now, is there anything else you wanted?"
"I was just going to ask if there was anything you needed me to do, Sir." She replied.
Kaneki's eyes landed on his dusty desk and he smirked. He brought his feet off of the desk and smiled chillingly at his subordinate.
"Actually," He grinned. "If you want to make it up to me, you can start by cleaning this office for me."
She bowed again. "Right away, Sir!"
"Good," Kaneki said, abruptly standing. "I'm going to go home then, there's plenty of paperwork for me to do, and I should probably at least put in the effort to learn your names and skills at some point."
"Have a good night, Captain!" She exclaimed, bowing only her head this time.
"You too..." Kaneki trailed off. "What's your name?"
"Ume Ishiyama, Sir." She answered.
"Ah," Kaneki nodded. "Then good night, Ume."
~~~~~

Tears flowed down her cheeks as she sat in Itachi's lap, sobbing.

"I-It's not fair..." She mumbled, her mind swimming with all of the information that she had just received.

Her head hurt just thinking about it all. Itachi was sick and didn't want to try and find a doctor who could cure him, he murdered his family because of his orders and because of his responsibilities as a shinobi of Konoha. On top of that, now his brother wants to hunt him down and kill him for it, despite the fact that he doesn't know the truth.

"I'm not done yet, Kana," Itachi sighed, flinching when Kana's hands tightened around him. "I still have to tell you a little more."

"W-what else could there p-possibly be?" Kana cried, her voice horse and weak.

"The reason why I joined the Akatsuki," Itachi said. "And more importantly, the Akatsuki's goal."

"B-but isn't our g-goal to obtain peace?" Kana asked.

"Well yes," Itachi nodded. "But the way the Akatsuki was trying to obtain peace wasn't good."

Kana tilted her head, confused.

"First of all, I joined the Akatsuki for two reasons," Itachi said. "Firstly, Sasuke can find me easily, and secondly, I'm a spy."

Kana froze, her body beginning to shake as she stared at Itachi in a newfound fear.

A spy? A spy for who? Were they all going to be killed? Was she going to die? What about Naruto? And Haku? And Deidara, Sasori, Kakazu, Hidan, Konan, Pein, Kisame, Zabuza, and even that freak Zetsu?

Her breaths became shallow as she clutched the front of her shirt, her throat dry and her vision bleary with tears.

"Kana!" Itachi exclaimed. "Calm down, you're fine, I'm not going to hurt you, I'm your nii-san, remember?"

Kana could only manage a nod, struggling to take even breaths still.

"Let me finish," Itachi whispered, rubbing the girls back in a soothing way. "The Akatsuki wanted to obtain all of the tailed beasts and then destroy everything, creating a very wicked form of peace. Your friend Naruto has one of these beasts inside him."

Kana's eyes widened. She knew about the beasts, Kakazu having taught her a little about them, but she hadn't met a Jinchuriki, not until now at least.

"But ever since you came along, we've stopped collecting the beasts," Itachi continued. "Gaara also has one of these chakra beasts, however, we took no action to capture him, even when Hidan and Kakazu had the perfect chance to. What I'm saying is, it seems like the Akatsuki wants to obtain worlde peace in a new way."

"A n-new way?" Kana asked.

Itachi ruffled her hair affectionately. "I'll tell you when you're older."

"How old do I have to be!" Kana whined. "I'm almost thirteen!"

"A future Kage needs to be patient," Itachi chuckled. "Maybe you should demonstrate a little more patience."

Kana giggled, wiping away her tears with her sleeves.

"That's right!" She exclaimed, standing enthusiastically. "I'm going to be the first Amekage!"

Itachi smiled softly, frowning when he felt another cough rise in his throat.

'I don't have much time.'
