Chapter 1: A heroes journey
It was a normal Saturday morning, as always, I am sitting here in the library, the hope to distract my thoughts. But this time, I don't read a book, I am rather just sitting on the couch and thinking. While doing so, my vision got suddenly blocked as someone was standing right in front of me. As I looked up, I saw the face of the kindest woman I ever met. The librarian. "Darling, what are you doing. That's nothing like you to not read." She asked me. "It's just complicated. I did a serious mistake, and now, I think I lost all of my friends." "Do you want to talk about it? I'm all ears open if you want." She proposes to me. "It's a really long story, and I don't want to distract you from your job." "Don't worry darling, look around, not many people get up early on a Saturday to go to the library. So, tell me, what is bothering you so much you can't even read a book?" She assures me. "I don't even know when to start." "Then think about it while I go make us some tea. You look like you can need it." When she came back some minutes later, she handed me a cup and set it down on a couch in front of me.
"Okay so, I would say, it all started at the beginning of this school year. I was standing at my locker with my best friend Stella when the schools' soccer player and his best friend walked by. I couldn't help but follow the two with my gaze, something Stella also saw. "Don't go there Beth" She told me "He's just a jerk." But what she didn't know, was that my eyes didn't follow Oliver, but much rather his friend Gianna. But I couldn't tell her that, because then she would have asked me why my eyes followed Gianna, but I didn't have an answer to that at the time, I mean, I still have no clue why I find her so interesting, so, what should I have told her. So, I just played along. "Yeah I know, but I can't help it," I told her so that she didn't catch on. She just brushed it off and started walking to our first class. On our way there, we met up with her boyfriend, Noah Lloyd." After introducing Noah to Miss Fletcher, I took a sip from my cup and shifted slightly in my sitting position. "We then walked into our literature class. And while Noah and Stella went and set down next to each other, I sat down on the table in front of them, with no one next to me. Soon enough, the bell rang and the teacher came into the room. And I was quite happy because there still wasn't anyone sitting next to me. The teacher put his stuff down and started going over attendance. Not long after he started, he came by the name Clarke, Gianna Clark, but when looking around class, I didn't see her anywhere. But, I didn't need to look for long, because it was at that moment that the tall, brown-haired woman burst through the door. "I am really sorry mister Owen. I didn't hear the bell ring at I was on the toilet." She poorly excused herself. "No problem Miss Clarke?" he asked her to make sure that the girl that just entered class was the one that didn't answer till now. "Exactly." "Okay, come on in, I mean, it's only the first day yet. Sit down on a free place." It was only then that I saw, that the only free seat was the one next to me. This meant for me, that I had to sit next to this girl that fascinated me till the end of the year, without having Stella to realize anything."
"Oh, poor girl." Misses Fletcher commented on this first part of my story. "And all that happened just at the beginning of the year? Then why are you thinking about that now, we are already far away from the start of the school year." "Well you see, the story goes on for a lot more."
"During the lesson, I tried my best not to look at Gianna, in order not to raise any suspicions. Plus, I felt how much she didn't want to be here, and I didn't want to upset her. After literature class I went on with my day, during the week, I realized that we also had the same math and history class. And how magic wants it, I was seated next to her in all of these classes. So, I always tried to do the same thing in class. Not look at her to not angry her. I also wanted to pay attention to maintain straight A's. Soon after the school year I also got elected into the student council and then even became the head of it"
"Well that all seems nice. I don't see where there might be a problem" The librarian said her opinion on the story once again.
"Yes at this part, it was all good, and it would have stayed like that if mister Owen wouldn't have put us into a group project together. I already knew that Gianna doesn't do much for school and that she doesn't like people like me. People who work a lot. Then, I was sure that she will just let me do it all by myself while she fools around with her friends."
"Why do you say it like it didn't happen?" The sweet lady I told the story to asked. "Miss Fletcher, I will come to this part of the story, don't worry" I explained to her. "Darling, how often have I told you that you can call me Jane."
I then decided to continue telling her my story. "It was nearly the end of the class when we got into groups, which is why we decided to just meet up one day that week outside of school. I gave her my number and she gave me hers so that we could write to each other to decide something." I said while putting down my cup after taking one last big sip. "We then decided to meet up on Saturday afternoons in a small café. Because neither of us wanted to invite the other one to our home." I said, smiling at the thought of the small coffee shop we went to a lot. "It was a coffee shop I always went to because I loved that it was small and cozy. Normally after being here for a while and having found a new book to read, I would go there for hot cacao to drink. I went there early to get us a seat and also to make sure that I can't come too late." I said lightly chuckling because I am still always scared to come late. "She surprisingly managed to come right on time. After she sat down and ordered herself a cup of coffee, she directly proposed to start, probably in hope that well be finished soon. Our project was to analyze a hero's journey. After some talking, we found out that we both liked Black Widow, and so, we decided to talk about her journey. We talked a bit about how we wanted to do this and decided, that we will both watch the movies at home, and write down what we find. So, after not too much time, we both left and were happy that we didn't have to spend so much time together. So, when I arrived home, I directly sat down and started to watch the movies, in this case, I started with the second Iron Man because it was the first time the Black Widow appeared in a movie."
"Darling, I don't mind having you here and fangirling over great stories, that's what this place is for, but I don't think that's the thing you are so worried about," Jane told me. "Of course, it's not what I am worried about, but I can't help it, I'm sorry." "Don't apologize darling."
"Okay so, to cut this short, in Iron Man two, we have the phase of the ordinary world, we see how Black Widow or Natasha works and get to know her a bit. Then the second movie was the first Avengers movie. It is in that movie that we had the phase of the call for Adventure. And so on. I also watched a lot of the movies I needed to on Sunday, which is why I only took one weekend to see the movies black Widow appeared in." I said, as once again changed my position in my seat. "So, the only reasonable thing I could do was to write Gianna and tell her that I was ready. And, since she too had already seen all the movies, we decided to meet up again on that same Monday, because we both finished school earlier that day. On the next day, so, Monday, I was once again a bit earlier at the same coffee shop and took a booth in the corner, and she was, once again, right on time. And then, we directly started working, and surprisingly, she helped and didn't let me do it all by myself. She even worked quite a lot and gave good ideas, which, surprised me, considering her bad grades and all the bad girl stuff she got on. But, I knew, I shouldn't complain. Since we both worked hard that day, we were able to finish up our presentation by the end of the meeting, and to say the truth, I was kind of sad because I did enjoy having someone to talk to about heroes and all that stuff for once, I mean, Stella is my friend but I don't even know how that happened, we don't like the same things at all. So, I took up all my courage and told Gigi that I enjoyed spending time with her, and I was prepared for her to laugh at me and make fun of me, but, once again, she surprised me, but agreeing and even suggesting to meet up again, even if it wasn't for a school subject."
"Well, that seems like everything ended up good, then why are you sitting here, thinking about an event which happened two months ago, darling?" Mrs. Fletcher asked once again. "Because that's still not the end of the story." "Then I should go make us one more cup of tea." And with that, she rushed off.
