Yet another day in Encanto, Alma Madrigal sighed out, smiling. Through somehow, she felt this day was special. She knew it.
And her thoughts were confirmed, when she was passing by one of the doors, she expected the least to hear noises behind this morning. The Casita nursery. Yet that noise made her smile even more.
Giggles. Childishly sounding giggles on the other side, with three voices.
Alma couldn't help her own chuckle, as she pushed the door open to see three teenagers inside. Her 15 year old triplet children. And, judging by how they jumped, laughed and played in the room, they were regressed.
The first, Alma ever found Bruno, her youngest and only son, regressed about few months before, when some person came to complain about the vision they had from him. (Oh, she long ago had lost the count how many times she had to give villagers the talk that her son could only see the future, not create it) But it wasn't until she saw her son standing in the corner, trying to hold back his tears. After that, Alma finally closed the door on the villager's face. She knew she'd have to apologize for that later, but it could wait. She had a child to comfort.
Alma held her child in her arms for good half an hour, before he started calming down. And it was when she noticed first signs of his unusual behavior. Well... Bruno wasn't like other kids, that was for sure, but that was out of blue even for him. His voice sounded smaller, more childish, he couldn't say words right, through she could explain it by him having his thumb in his mouth. And... and he called her Mamí... something, he hasn't done since he was 5. Not that she minded. That only made her hug her little boy close, saying 'It's okay. Mamí's here. Don't cry...'. And before she knew it, he fell asleep. Right there. In her arms.
Upon his awakening, Alma was met by her so flushed son, who she calmed down yet again, before he explained what he was doing. Age regression. He was a Little. He found slipping in a mindset of a child comforting. His coping mechanism to deal with with the backsides of his Gift. The reason why he locked in his room so much. Just as much as Bruno thought it would push his mother away from him, was how Alma was relieved, hugging her little boy close, promising she wasn't disgusted or disappointed in him. She was glad. Happy that he found a good way to handle what his Gift has brought upon him. She said he could come to her anytime he needed a help as a Little, anytime he needed his Mamí to watch over him.
It wasn't long before she was revealed that her daughters, Bruno's older triplet sisters, Julieta and Pepa, were also Littles, through they'd never regress as far as their hermanito did. And, just like when Bruno alone came to her, Alma took her daughters in with opened arms. They deserved to be loved and cared for. They were her little ones. Her precious babies. And she was glad to have them back, even for a bit.
And there she stood. In the nursery doorway, watching her children, before she made her presence known.
"I see, three certain someones feel small today~" Alma said, as her children looked to her "Now, what did Mamí tell you to do, when you feel small?" She walked to her children, picking her youngest up, noticing he was, probably, in one of his younger headspaces.
"Go and tell Mamí" the girls said together, before Julieta, in her role as the eldest, she seemed to remember even once regressed, took over.
"Sorry, Mamí. We were gonna get you, after getting few things, promise!" The blue triplet said, as Pepa nodded in agreement.
Alma couldn't help a small chuckle. "Very good then. Through I think we would have to go back here anyway. The three of you need fitting clothes"
Alma smiled, laying her son down to get him dressed into more age appropriate outfit, soft green onesie, decorated with little rats, Bruno's favorite animals, with long socks.
"Mí Brunito. Mí dulce niño" Alma kissed her son's hair, making him giggle. "Now, can you be a good little boy and wait for Mamí to get your sisters dressed up?"
Bruno just nodded, going to play with a frog plushie, Lily the Frog, he had since he was a small child.
All three triplets still had their favorite stuffed toy from that time. Julieta had a cat, she called Caramelo, and Pepa had a smiley cloud, she called Señor Nube. They'd carry these toys around whenever they were regressed, simply unable to depart from them. Alma couldn't be more happy to finally see these things stop collecting dust and used the way, they were intended to be.
Then, Alma turned to her daughters. Even through they'd never be as small as Bruno, they'd still be very dependent on her. For second, Alma helped the girls dress up in their dresses, yellow with suns for Pepa and blue with flowers for Julieta, also giving them long socks, instead of shoes.
"Mis hermosas niñas. Te amo mucho" Alma placed soft kisses on her daughters' cheeks, as they laughed, before Pepa jumped up.
"Mamí! Can you do my hair, por favor!?" She nearly squealed, bouncing on her spot.
"Me too, Mamí?! Por favor!!" Julieta joined in, jumping on her sister.
Alma couldn't help the soft laugh, shaking her head with a fond smile.
"Of course, mijas"
Two girls jumped around, before they raced to a chair, to see who's going to get to get her hair done first. Pepa won. Julieta stumped her feet, before crossing her arms. Alma again shook her head, as she took the brush, few ribbons, bows, hair bands, walking to her daughters.
"Now, Julita. No need to be fussy, Mamí's going to do your sister's hair quickly and then it'll be your turn."
Julieta sighed, before nodding, while Pepa triumphantly sat on her spot, as her mother brushed her hair gently. About half way through, Bruno came over, lifting his hands up, to be lifted onto his mother's lap. Alma could never say 'no' to this.
"You want a ponytail or braid, mija?" Alma asked.
"Braid, Mamí"
With that said, Alma started carefully getting her daughter's curly hair into a long braid, first tying it with a band, before doing a small bow over it with a ribbon. Pepa giggled, jumping off the chair, spinning around, looking at her hair, bright smile on her face and a rainbow over her head.
"Thank you, Mamá!" The girl squealed.
"De nada, Corazón..." Alma said softly, smiling at her younger daughter.
"¡Yo a continuación! ¡Yo a continuación!" (Me next! Me next!) Julieta shouted, jumping onto the seat, that made Pepa and their mother laugh slightly.
"Ay, Dios mio, Julita... no need for that rush, cariña. We've got the whole day for ourselves" Alma said gently, but she was never mad, as she started brushing her daughter's hair.
"Mamí?"
"Yes, querida?"
"Can I have my hair down and just get a bow?"
Alma smiled softly, before nodding, starting to gently work with her daughter's hair.
"Of course, mija. Let's get you a cute bow into your pretty hair"
Julieta giggled slightly, as a blue bow was tied onto side of her head. Once done, the girl smiled, standing up, coming to her sister to show her new hair style. Alma couldn't fight the smile on her face, as she gently cuddled her small son, who managed to fall asleep during all of that, to her chest.
Yes. This day is going to be special...
